Name: Aiden Killian
Age: 17
Birthday: April 20
Gender: Male
Species: Snow Spirit
Category: Student
Class: High School

Appearance Description:
Pale skinned even in his human form, Aiden is a celtic-blooded US citizen of originally human appearance. He has a little bit of growing left to do, and for now is a lanky (well, somewhat-muscled scrawny and bony) teenager with about five feet and eight inches to his name. He has dark brown eyes (well, eye; the right one is kind of stuck in snow mode) and black hair that he keeps long out of a habit to differentiate himself from his outgoing, athletic brother.

Largely nondescript if he covers his right eye, Aiden really doesn't look intimidating or threatening or strange. Well, maybe a little odd, but just in the closeted shy nerd way. He has a bit of a gaming habit and spends most of his other spare time writing and drawing manga. Or, if he has sufficient privacy, messing around with a pair of wooden swords trying to get angles right, since a character in his manga is a dual wielder but it really isn't practical enough to draw accurately easily.

Aiden's most notable physical characteristics (other than occasionally disappearing in snow) are his scars. They aren't great in number but they are extremely vivid, being shiny white with a tendency to sparkle, and also cold to the touch. He usually hides his facial scars, even going so far as to wear sunglasses indoors (okay fine, that's probably the most obvious strange thing about him), but a rough-edged line runs from the bridge of his nose to the notched edge of his right ear, clear across his eye and leaving it functional but frosty. His right arm and shoulder is also scarred, with a short vertical stroke across his collarbone and overlapping the much longer streak running from the base of his throat all the way down his arm to the outside of his right wrist.

In terms of clothing, Aiden dresses very simply and casually, but despite his extreme heat intolerance (room temperature makes him a little sweaty, and beyond that he gets incapacitated very quickly) he insists on always wearing long sleeves and pants, and often going the full distance and wearing hoodies with the hoods up. Showing skin hits on too many of his issues.

Personality Description: Introverted but not actively antisocial by nature, Aiden is a repressed kid with a host of issues, no ability to handle them, and has abruptly and recently lost his one support/shelter. Is he angsty?

Oh yeah.

Aiden is, basically, a nice, gentle guy with a strong drive to protect others. He has less than zero interest in hurting others, and doesn't like seeing anyone get hurt. It's pretty obvious; he winces when he sees someone get hit in cartoons, much less live-action videos or real life. He doesn't have the guts to interfere, for real life situations, but he kind of wants to. He wants it to stop.

So. Basics down, on to issues.

Brother issues
Aiden's brother, Conri, was super nice and protective in all the right ways. He hung out with Aiden when appropriate, and maintained a public level of disinterest that kept his popularity from negatively impacting Aiden. Conri was the only person Aiden was close to comfortable being around, much less talking to. And then he died, in a car accident than Aiden miraculously survived.

Undersocialization issues
Spend your life shy and awkward enough to never talk to people willingly and your socialization will be crud too. Aiden honestly doesn't know how to deal with people, and not knowing how to deal with people freaks him out. He tends to withdraw or flee more than mess up, but he will get more and more distressed if he doesn't have an escape and/or feels pressured. Also, people reading his work freaks him out and may turn him into a distressed puddle of awkward.

Sexuality issues
Honestly, he'd probably repress himself even if his (technically adoptive but he still doesn't know that) parents weren't casually homophobic. Girls confuse him. Guys he runs away from. He currently has himself convinced that nothing is ever going to happen JUST POKE IT AWAY WITH A STICK AND MAKE A BREAK FOR IT WHILE IT'S DISTRACTED

And yes, he does try to flee his issues and stressors. If he avoids them and pretends they don't exist, then he doesn't have to deal with them. Aiden doesn't like dealing with stressful or emotional things.

At all.

Powers: Aiden is a snow spirit. He has a complex set of native abilities that allow him to transform his flesh into snow, and activate certain oddities as a result, as well as the ability to generate a magical field in his vicinity.

In order for Aiden to transform into snow, there must be falling snow present. That snow can be natural, previously fallen snow that has been kicked back into the air, or snow generated by his magic. Whether or not he shifts under those conditions, though, is not controllable: if there is falling snow, then he shifts. When shifted, he loses pigmentation and appears carved out of snow, including his clothing. The slight exception is his irises, which become an extremely pale silver. His texture does not change, and his body temperature drops to 0c. He can also be broken apart in this form, like a shattered snowman, but can pull himself back together by will and also hold himself together to prevent breaking... at least in theory.

The magical field Aiden can generate is triggered primarily by physical movement, but can also self-activate in heavy natural snow - white-out level blizzard natural snow. High-speed, high-grace movement is the most effective, and the field is only visible to the naked eye by the swirling snow that stops abruptly ten metres from the centre. There is a sudden temperature drop as well; the field is maintained at slightly below freezing. This field's existence is maintained by Aiden's movement as well, and slowly trails after him as he moves. Within the field, he is naturally camouflaged as well as magically boosted. Those boosts are two-sided: he is able to physically regenerate, as falling snow collects in an injury, and he is able to move like a snowflake on the wind: rapidly, unpredictably, and with apparent unconcern for gravity. There is a significant drawback, however: if he exits his field at all, any injuries that are still healing will be permanently stuck in snow form and his movement boost instantly ends.

Flying out the top of the snow dome after sustaining serious injuries is a very bad idea.

Biography: Life used to be pretty darn normal for Ai. He grew up in a small city about an hour and a half from NYC proper, which wasn't particularly different from any other town. His family unit was quite standard, with a brother a year older than him, Conri, of whom he was always jealous, and two conservative parents who worked all day in bland city office jobs and never told their awkward kid, at least, that both boys were adopted. His family lived on the borders of town with a couple of acres of trees and a german shepherd.

The two brothers were very similar in appearance, and close enough in height to frequently be mistaken for twins. In behaviour, however, there was little outward congruency. Conri was the outgoing, confident athlete - he fell into soccer in elementary school and by high school had serious goals for playing through university and maybe going to medical school afterwards. Aiden was always reserved, and though he had a better head for languages and math really only put openly consistent effort into playing video games; his parents thought he had tired of actually using his swords (an online purchase grudgingly agreed to when Aiden was about twelve) years before, and even Conri didn't know the full depth of Aiden's efforts.

In private, though the two brothers never so much as made eye contact unnecessarily in public, the two worlds were far closer than most thought. Aiden helped his older brother with spanish and math, Conri tried to explain Shakespeare to his younger brother, Conri never scored an honest goal (though many dishonest ones) against Aiden and Aiden could never quite keep up with Conri in any game that involved flexible thought.

See, in ability (excluding classroom subject strengths) the two brother were very similar. Aiden was quick and reacted easily - both part of the reason he was so good at video games and a product of his dedication - but he wasn't really interested in sports, especially team sports. Conri was a great deal more open and trusting towards people, and spent enough time thinking things through that he didn't need superb reactions. Additionally, while Ai never trusted easily, both he and Conri would defend those they trusted without any regard for themselves. As might be expected, Conri had to do a lot more defending than Ai.

Such life cannot last forever, however. A short while before Ai's seventeenth birthday, he and Conri were driving back from a soccer game in Poughkeepsie, some distance to the north. The weather had been looking unpleasant all day, and near the end of the game snow began to fall. As they headed home, the snow gradually worsened, and as they neared Lake Carmel visibility deteriorated to nothing. They were only in the worst of the blizzard for a few minutes, but even that was enough for an oncoming vehicle to drift into their lane.

The two vehicles ended up on opposite sides of the road. Ai and Conri's was upside down. Ai briefly roused, blood coating most of his face and his shoulder burning worse than he had ever previously felt, but slipped into unconsciousness again as the storm faded, never quite realizing that the bloodied arm partially flung over Conri, who was in turn partially flung over Ai, was white where the flesh wasn't shrouded by blood.

When Ai awoke in hospital, he was neither injured nor white. By the time the paramedics had been called and arrived, the snow had ceased falling, Ai's snow mode had melted, his injuries had healed, and his brother had died, likely in reverse order. Due to the relative remoteness of the area and the poor weather, the crash wasn't discovered and called in for over an hour.

While recovering in the hospital, it wasn't his parents who came to visit. It was strangers, who represented a strange school. He wanted to turn them down, but when his parents were asked for permission and instead refused to let Aiden return home he kind of ran out of options.
