Appearance Description: Aurora stands at five feet and three inches, short but with a sturdy build. She greatly resembles an Asian in appearance, with almond shaped dark eyes and fair skin. Her dark hair is naturally wavy but thin, falling to her knees. In her sect, few women cut their hair as it is a symbol of beauty. She normally has it tied up in a tight bun to prevent it from getting in her way. Most people find it nearly impossible to read her typically schooled facial expressions and neutral tone. Only in private around her family does she slightly let down her guard, becoming more affectionate and open with her expressions.

Rare is the time when Aurora will be found out of uniform. She still wears the red and yellows of the rebellion as appropriate for her rank of commander (O-5). When at home, she abandons the outfit for simple, modest dresses.

Personality Description: Contemplative and calm, Aurora navigates her life with the cold professionalism gained from many decades as a soldier. Among her men, she is known for her nigh-unflappable demeanor and ability to retain a level head no matter the occasion. She is naturally wary when dealing with new people and situations, preferring a period of observance to immediate action. Her cautious nature means that she prefers to working under the cover of anonymity as opposed to out in the open. She firmly believes that at the end of the day, what is most important is that the task at hand gets done, not that she is credited with it.

As a soldier, death is a common reality in the navy. Aurora is of the opinion, however, that an honorable death is still a death. Though not a violent person and desiring to preserve as many lives as possible, the utter brutality and futility of war on her planet has taught her that fighting dirty and shooting enemies when they’re down are sadly some of the best strategies she can possibly utilize. If it were only her own fate being determined, she would probably choose the morally right and honorable action over the efficient and “correct” one. The point of the matter, though, is that it isn’t. Responsible for many more lives than her own, Aurora knows that her priority is their safety and wellbeing, even at the cost of her morals.

Perhaps Aurora’s greatest talent is her ability to remain out of sight and mind even when present. Still and silent unless the situation warrants otherwise, she often acts as the obvious but unnoticed bystander, shielded from attention behind a thick wall of perceived passivity. In the spirit of diplomacy, she is content to take punches and jabs without immediate retaliation. Never one to rate “personal” the same as “important,” she excels at controlling her reactions to the point where every movement is made out of logic. Rarely does she operate out of spur of the moment. It is for this reason that she is often seen as an emotional blank. Though she does experience normal emotions, she has long since learned to disassociate herself from them, often labelling them as unnecessary and counterproductive. It is not until truly put on the spot that Aurora listens to her heart and even then, she’s still more likely to plot out a calculated response than go for an emotional one.

On the topic of emotions, Aurora’s surface orderliness and sterile blankness is, astoundingly, both her mask and the way she mostly is beneath it. Every feeling is intensely compartmentalized and invoked by chains of logic rather than gut instinct. This is done in the same manner as putting an algorithm into a computer and getting a result, which in this case is emotions.

For all her appearance of apathy, Aurora makes a point of recognizing those who work around her. Though certainly anybody would hesitate to label her a friend due to her rank, her men know that she remembers their names and treats their complaints seriously. Among them, she is known as a reasonable authority figure who, while distant, has their best interests at heart and is more likely to schedule therapy than punishment for rambunctious behavior. Though she would like to be on closer terms with those under command, the unfortunate fact of the matter is that there are simply too many things that she needs to attend to and not enough hours in the day.

To many people, the idea of Aurora as a family person is inconceivable. Clearly married to the job, she can be found working on various tasks nearly every hour of the day, from paperwork to instructing. She says nothing of her personal life unless pressed for details and off the clock. Though she would tell the truth eventually if repeatedly and specifically asked, Aurora simply doesn’t see the need to disclose her personal life to anybody. She likes the idea of a small, orderly world, if only because it reduces the amount of surprises she would need to keep up with.

Active Abilities: Libritor – Physically normal by Andromedan standards, Aurora lacks both the powers of her blessed kin as well as the genetic gifts of the specially engineered elite. She is, however, extremely proficient in firearms of all kinds due to her centuries of experience as a soldier. With finely honed reflexes, she is capable of shaking off typical recoil with less than a thought and has learned to ignore the sound of gunfire. Though she prefers working at long-range with rifles, she is perfectly comfortable with pistols as well. She has a dislike for high caliber weapons and is most suited to plasma-based firearms.

Aurora’s typical plasma-based firearms shoot singular energy beams capable of piercing most types of matter excluding magnetic shields. To use one of these effectively, she must first tune the weapon to a certain power to avoid shooting through other objects and people behind her target. With her pistol, the tuning is nearly always set to a range of fifty feet per shot. Within less than that range, she will normally switch to a melee weapon. With her rifle, each shot must be tuned beforehand. The plasma from her weapons will disintegrate matter upon contact, cauterizing wounds. Each shot travels thirty-four hundred miles per hour (twice as fast as normal).

Miles – In addition to her proficiency with firearms, Aurora is also, to a lesser extent, skilled with melee weapons. Her weapon of choice is a high-frequency short sword capable of slicing through sheets of metal. It must be charged before use via its scabbard and can only be used about fifty times before it must be charged again. It otherwise functions the same as a typical sword. Aurora is best with one-handed blades and rarely uses blunt or two-handed weapons.

Passive Abilities: “Andromedans are a tough race that’s fully taken advantage of genetic modification. With triple helix DNA and hundreds of thousands of edits, members have unlocked the secret to what basically constitutes as immortality. While they’re pretty similar to humans when it comes to the first 26 years of their lives, after they reach full maturity aging almost completely halts. This modification, along with the historic ruthless culling of weakly adapted members, has brought them to a plateau they call “genetic perfection” for their environments. They don’t die of old age, and they don’t die from “natural causes” and other variant diseases. This being said they can still die from unnatural interference, such as being poisoned, decapitated or loosing too much blood(which is purple btw!).

Andromedans have a dense skeletal and muscular structures. While this makes internal injuries such as broken bones and bleeding rare, and gives them an advantage with melee sorts of weapons, it makes them incredibly heavy. Even the lighter members of their race typically weigh more than the average human male. For their weight they’re agile, but you’ll be hard pressed to find one comfortable twirling and jumping around... or for that matter comfortable in deep water, seeing as their density makes them sink like a rock if they don’t have something else to help them float.

In dark light they can see with the visual perception of an earth feline. For smelling, their acute sense of smell puts them on par with a terran wolf. You can even compare their hearing to that of an owl. However, having enhanced sensory perception is also a hindrance to Andromedans. Subsonic sounds make them incredibly sick, inducing vomiting and nose bleeds easily. Both sub and hyper sonic noises cause them to lose their ability to balance properly, causing them to stumble drunkenly at best and be lay them completely out at worst. Incredibly bright lights make them sneeze and cough a good deal and long exposure to bright light gives them lasting headaches, this is made many times worst at night, when a bright light shone in their eyes can leave them blind for several minutes. This is only an issue with earth made, artificial lighting, but since it’s practically everywhere, it’s a huge pain. Strong smells and tastes can cause migraines, blindness and vomiting as well.

Returning to their dense muscular structures: Andromedans are incredibly strong compared to humans, but this strength comes with a drawback. They need a minimum of several decades worth of training to properly control this strength. It’s ridiculously common for young ones to hurt themselves doing what should be ordinary everyday tasks. Throwing a baseball too hard could easily result in dislocating several joints in the arm, gripping a glass a little too hard can shatter it and send shards flying all over the place, or embed them in the hand. If they’ve never been around humans, or lack a good understanding of how relatively squishy humans can be, this can lead to breaking hands during handshakes or winding someone with an ill placed pat on the back.” (Written by @Hizrihel)

Biography: Aurora was born the third child of a poor civilian couple. Though she had many siblings, she was the only one to survive to adulthood, her longest living sibling having perished in early adolescence. Though life was hard, she survived on her wits and learned to defend herself by watching street fights in secret, learning from the mistakes of others. Her parents were kind people who raised Aurora with love and as much comfort as they could afford. They, however, indirectly taught her the lesson that kindness without caution could be and would be taken advantaged of. Thus from an early age, she learned to be wary of others and how to separate her naturally good-natured instincts from cold logic. She quickly found that the best way to not get into trouble was simply to fade into the background as if she were never there. Her parents mourned over the bright girl she had once been but accepted her nonetheless.

With crime and poverty surrounding them, Aurora was desperate to escape the ghetto she had been raised in. Though all citizens were obligated to spend a certain time in the military at a hundred years-old, Aurora saw it as a way to support her family and chose it as a career path solely for monetary reasons. She stayed with the military after her mandatory service ended and worked hard to move up the ranks and secure a higher pay.

At the time, the Andromedans were busy altering the genetics of a species on a different planet to serve as subservient drones. Though a majority were all for the experimentation and excused the ethical dilemma with the proud example of their superior, genetically enhanced civilization, several people felt that this genetic enslavement was crossing a moral line. Most citizens were unaware of these tensions but whispers of the dispute gradually made their way throughout the military. Aurora, like the rest of the soldiers, simply prepared for a small conflict with little inkling of the explosive schism that was about to occur.

Roughly a hundred years after Aurora joined the military, word came out that rebels were educating the drone workers and giving them access to technology. Rebellion broke out and, while a cautious person, Aurora took the rare opportunity to listen to her heart and defected after moving her parents to safety. A recluse by nature, she was missed by few except those she closely worked with. She fought for the rebels (called Forsaken Ones) for three hundred years until they were ultimately driven into exile by the Andromedan government. She escaped with her parents and busied herself herself protecting the other rebel refugees.

Over the next few decades, Aurora helped to resettle her people all across the galaxy, on whatever hospitable planet would take them. It was during this time that she met Raphael Isra, a celebrated doctor who had been among the first to protest the Andromedan genetic experiments. They gradually bonded over their experiences, culminating in a quiet marriage ceremony and children.

Eventually, they came to Starlight Observation Station, where they met with representatives of the academy on Earth. Sensing that the planet would be good for their family, the couple took up teaching positions and settled themselves on the island for good.
