Cats Need Sleep

Yun didn't like his dorm. Not only was it a pain to access, given his forced form, but his roommate was always eyeing him strangely. Greedily. Hungrily. Whether or not it was true or projected didn't really matter. Yun wasn't comfortable with his situation to begin with, and he did not want any more stress.

But hey, he was a cat... more or less. Cats could sleep just about anywhere. Right now he was trying to sleep in the student lounge, early in the afternoon when the sun fell on this particular couch. It was the most comfortable couch, in terms of squish and plush and cleanliness, and right now it was also pleasantly warm.

As long as no one bothered him, maybe he could finally catch up on his sleep. Cats slept a lot, and even if he wasn't really just a cat - and his cat form wasn't really a domestic cat at all, but a crossbred nekomata - he still felt like a cat in a lot of ways when he was in this form. Dairy intolerance and all. Drinking tea as a cat honestly kinda sucked, and he was drinking a lot of black tea lately to make up for his increasing sleep deprivation. Cats were less equipped to run on three hours of sleep a day, coming up on a week straight, than humans. Maybe if he were stuck in his dragon form...

But wishes just made him more miserable, and he was trying to keep his tail off the couch so he didn't set it on fire. He sighed and rolled onto his back, trying to find some position comfortable enough to chase the thoughts out of his head.

Daniel yawned as he walked into the student lounge. The library was closed for cleaning today, so the teen decided to read here. It was surprisingly empty, for being the afternoon. He noticed a...black cat laying on one of the couches? Daniel could have sworn that it's tail was on fire, but it was probably just a trick of the light.

The Libriomancer pulled a copy of a Dungeons and Dragon novel from his bag, and sat down next to the cat, beginning to read. He made no noise, aside from the occasional turning of the page.

It was very peaceful, honestly. Sitting in the sun with a good book...

Daniel smiled softly as he read, subconsciously moving a hand to lightly pet the cat he was sitting next too.

Yun had finally nodded off. At least a bit; he was past general snoozing to that sort of hazy in-between where he was vaguely aware of noise and movement but really didn't give any fucks.

At least, until something touched him. In an instant he was awake, eyes wide and pupils slitted, tail spitting sparks enough to probably set the couch smouldering if not in open flame, and his claw-studded paws were wrapped around the stranger's hand.

"What do you think you're doing?" he hissed, not digging in enough to draw blood but definitely threatening to if the answer was unsatisfactory.

If Danny had expected anything from petting the cat, being clawed around his hand was not one of them. The cat talking...

Okay this was Starlight Academy. He should have expected that.

He almost dropped his book, wincing as he felt the claws in his hand.

"Ah, Sorry. I thought you were a regular cat." The boy apologized, chuckling nervously. "Can you let go of my hand now?"

Harrumph. A regular cat, here. Yun did release the hand, though - honestly, holding onto something at that angle was way worse on him than on the kid - and sat back. And then shuffled back a bit to smother the smouldering spot that his tail had apparently started.

"Even regular cats don't always like being woken up," he said darkly. "And besides. Tail. Look at it. Not a regular cat tail. Obviously." He swished it for emphasis.

"Now, are you planning on staying here to read?" He quirked an eyebrow as much as his cat face could.

Daniel pulled his hand back to rub it softly, lightly touching the scratch-marks Yun left. He frowned.

"I thought your tail was a trick of the light. Doesn't that...Hurt?" He asked, before Yun quirked his cat eyebrow.

"Well, Yeah. I like reading here. Good lighting."

Daniel ran his hand through the fire, feeling the heat. He didn't leave it there long enough to burn though.

"Roommate? Is he also a cat?" Daniel chuckled as he asked, only half serious. He wouldn't put it past the school to have two cat students.

Wow. The kid actually stuck his hand in the fire. Yun might have found that absolutely hilarious if he were more awake and less generally stressed. Or mostly just less stressed. His current situation kind of ruined humour overall.

"No. He's some regular-looking thing. I dunno if he's human or not. I try not to stick around enough to have to actually make conversation. I don't think I'd appreciate his contributions."

He flicked an annoyed glance at Daniel. "And I'm not just a cat. I'm a shifter." He hesitated, and then grimaced. "I'm just stuck under a curse at the moment and can't shift."

It was late afternoon in the student lounge, a place which accommodated both the male and female sections of the dorms, which she assumed they had but hadn't been real bothered to look in to. Being new had it's drawbacks but being able to to read served her well enough. The girl slung her book bag over her shoulder and approached the meeting room. She had expected people playing card games, playing video games or maybe even people watching a movie but a nerd reading a book, or trying to, while arguing with a cat wasn't what she had expected at all.

Cocking a hip against he door way Kody smiled and said, "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..What have we here?" The lilt in her voice could be none other than teasing.
