Wait wait wait where was the bunnyfox going? WAS HE LEAVING EVEN THOUGH HE SAID TO WAIT??

Nah. Rhu was just being an impatient worrywort. There were the magic fluffy ears, bouncing back out of the store. Waaaaait wait wait wait he was giving Rhu his number? SCORE.

Rhu might have been cheering in his head, but he was also dancing in a literal sense. Ears, tail nub, arms, legs, everything. He took a picture of the paper with his phone, just in case something happened to the precious information, and then carefully tucked everything away into separate pockets.

"I will! Hey......... are you free now? Not for business stuff, just to, y'know, hang out?"

Rhu drooped a little bit. He didn't want to make Rich upset, he just wanted to double check! That was it! He didn't want to assume.

He did have something to make up for it, though. "I was just on my way home from work - I work at the animal shelter - and a bunch of kittens came in. They were sleeping when I left but they're probably going to be waking up soon, and I could get you in to help, you know, 'socialize' them if you wanted."

Rhu pulled his phone out again and dug around for his pictures folder. There were clearly a ton of random cute animal shots preceding the one of Rich's contact info, and there were about two dozen of what was basically just a squirmy pile of long- and medium-haired kittens that were just getting out of the super-awkward idiot stage and into the EXPLORE EVERYTHING stage.

Okay, that made up for the droopiness of double-checking! Rhu's own expression brightened at Rich's excitement, and he grinned.

And then he pulled the little key car that hung around his neck out of his shirt, where it had fallen as usual, and waved it. "Shhhh, you're just looking at an afterimage because we-" he grabbed Rich's wrist, gentle but secure "-are already-" he teleported them both away from the store, only a few metres really but leaving them facing the right direction "-on our way!"

Rhu swallowed a little chuckle at Rich's surprise, and then immediately pouted at the hit. "You wanted to hurry!" he said, a little petulantly but far from actually upset. He could take a whole lot more force than that, and had, and would. This was just a chance to be silly, and Rhu liked being silly.

"Don't you want to see the kiiiiiiiitteeeeennnnnssss?" he said, teasing and luring and spreading his unhit arm in the appropriate direction. "Before they all get adopted?"

Hey, he had some demon blood somewhere back there. He was allowed to be a bit evil.

Yes. Kittens were very important! Rhu quickly led the way back to the shelter, using the front door and waving to the poor sod who had drawn front-desk-duty for the shift. He didn't take Rich through the big pretty doors to the main adoption area, though - instead, he used his card to go through a very unobtrusive door, winked back at the receptionist, and led Rich down a short hallway.

The hallway was studded with windowed doors, and the small rooms behind them were occupied by cats. Mostly adult cats, but the first few rooms had the odd kitten.

Then they came to one with a small 'New Arrival' sign stuck on the glass at an angle, clearly meant to block visual access and stop people from peeking but utterly failing for anyone tall enough to look through the window... which Rhu wasn't. Rhu tilted his head and gestured for Rich to open the door. If it weren't for the serious soundproofing of every wall in the building, there would be endless tiny kitten mews. Instead, it radiated mystery.
