Yun wasn't going to admit Yoka's point, but then he hadn't been that sort of person even before his life went to shit. Right now he was stressed and angry and alone, and remembering his manners was a pretty superficial use of his limited resources. He didn't like having to spend those resources on others; he barely had enough to keep himself sane.

"I am not currently hissing or growling," he said stiffly, still working to keep the fur along his spine from rising like a line of guns ready to fire. He glanced at his tail, but the sparks had subsided. Careful control, even if it wore his nerves thinner than defensive anger did.

His nerves were pretty close to permanently shot already. If he could only get his powers back, then he could crawl into a hole and give himself a chance to recover.

"I am willing to talk."

He seemed less spastic now, though Yoka had a feeling that he was the type to regress to a hissing animal the second something didn't work out.

When was the last time he got laid, the fox wondered. She knew enough not to ask.

"SO," She said, touching two of her fingers to the sidewalk. SHe peered at the cat with undisguised interest. "What happens to a shifer to make him unable to shift?"

It was a very good thing Yoka didn't ask about Yun's sex life. Telling virgins to get laid rarely went over well.

Not that the questioning went over spectacularly either. He very nearly got up and started walking again, and the inclination passed through his expression as clearly as anything else did on a cat face.

He had made his choice, though, and he was definitely a stubborn cat. "External magic," he said shortly, and huffed before explaining further. It wasn't a story he was fond of, and the increased irritation in his body language was meant entirely for the cause of that story.

"An idiot mage thought I'd make him a lot of money if he sold me as a familiar," he muttered, not looking at Yoka but keeping an eye on her in case she started to do something dangerous or unpleasant. "Interesting cat form, dragon form large enough to be useful, magic and training using to to heal. Who wouldn't buy a familiar like that? Especially if you throw compelled obedience in with the deal."

Yun was, ah, very bitter about this particular subject.

That was a package deal that Yoka was extremely interested in, although, had she been in the same position, she probably wouldn't be too happy about it. Yoka was not a true shapeshifter in that her physical form was more or less an illusion.

Sure, it was soft, you could touch it, love it, visualize it, but she didn't have to physically stretch or break anything if she wanted to become something else. She simply did. But the idea of being locked into a form or being locked into a form of someone else's design seemed particularly unpleasent to her, and this was perhaps because she was so used to the freedom.

"So if I am understanding correctly, this spell you're under....if someone owned you, to use that terminology, then...you would be able to transform into a dragon?" Yoka said. The interest was in her voice, but there was a flash of pity in her eyes. "What is your original, or default form, then?"

It was too soon to ask the question on her mind: does he have an owner now?

Yun couldn't really help the flush of anger that kicked a few fresh sparks out of his tail. Yoka's terminology did not sit well with him. None of it did, really, but hearing such specific words just dragged scythe claws dipped in acid across his nerves.

"Dragon. Human. Cat. Use my magic. With permission." He spat the last word, absolutely disgusted. Then he took a very careful breath. They were just talking. She might be able to help. Self control, right? Control was critical for a healer. He couldn't go and lose all of the non-magical skills he needed and had so painstakingly learned.

Control and patience weren't natural traits for Yun. He was impulsive and improvised and just did things.

"All my forms are my original forms. They're me as much as each other form. None of them are more me or less me."

He hesitated before continuing. "Well, I've spent the most time in this form. Not by choice, really, but I haven't been able to shift into my human form for longer and my dragon form doesn't really fit indoors."

Yoka considered this.

So he was a shapeshifter by nature then, not a creature who had shape-shifting, or at lest that's what she surmised from his description. She wrinkled her nose back and forth for a moment as she thought.

"So you are stuck in that form then?" she asked, wanting to clarify. "if you wanted to, right now, you could not turn into a person or a dragon?"

Yun couldn't help it. He fluffed up completely at Yoka's verbal prodding, honestly looking a little like he'd gone and stuck a claw in an electrical outlet like an idiot.

"DUH." He huffed a bit, and then forced at least some of his fur back down. "Do you see my problem, or are you getting stupid ideas? Even if I can't shift, I can still set you on fire, rip your skin apart, and bite you."

Yoka sighed. She stood up and dusted off her skirt.

"This is what I was talking about," she said. "I am far too old to deal with the claws of a pissy house cat. I see that your problem is you are negative and bite the hand of anyone who comes close. THat might work to save you some hurt, but it's going to cost you whatever information I could have given."

The kitsune adjusted her scarf, clicked her heels off the side walk, and turned away. It was mostly a bluff, because she found herself still thinking of the cat's plight, but she was also unamused enough that she could go home and drink her tea and relax. She'd find her cat another day if it came to that.

She was leaving? NOW?

That was it. With a flick of his head, Yun was on his feet, his claws were out, and he was flying past Yoka's ankles in a flurry of black fur, blue fire, and very carefully maintained claws.

He meant to cause some degree of damage to show her how rude she was being, dragging him along like that and then just walking off after he had put so much work into this conversation, but he didn't waste time near her before making a run for it.

"If you decide to get the stick out of your ass, come to the Cross Fox and we can talk," Yoka shouted after the small dark form of Yun as he bounded away from her. She didn't slow her pace, didn't run after him.

From the outside, Yoka didn't seem to care at all. Maybe she didn't care, not really, but Yoka was interested. They were far from the same thing.
