There were a lot of things that Tenta wasn't allowed to eat on the school grounds. Pretty much everything, really. But that wasn't the end of the world; there were other things to do besides eat. Especially when they'd just been kicked out of the cafeteria after lunch (it wasn't too upsetting to be kicked out anymore; it literally happened every single meal when they decided that the black hole child had eaten enough. or had eaten furniture again) and they at least remembered eating.

Satiation wasn't a concept that came easily or naturally to black holes, even halfbred ones. Cheerful entertainment did, though, or at least it did to this one.

Which led to Tenta being sprawled in the courtyard, unaffected by any discomfort from the ground since they literally had no bones, head propped up at ideal cloud-watching angle by the poofy mess of glowing red head tentacles that were often mistaken for hair.

It was also cold enough that there weren't a ton of people in the courtyard, and so there weren't a lot of people to notice the tiny child in their simple grey dress casually stuffing leaves into their mouth whenever they blew past on chilly autumn winds that held absolutely nothing on the bitterness of the endless stretches between stars.

Hey, Tenta remembered eating. That didn't make them not hungry.

Wendell's mind was currently buzzing a mile a minute, more frantic than he usually was and with a more than healthy dose of excitement. So nervous, but so interested! So caught off guard! They'd gone too far without contacting him about this, and all he could hope is that something hadn't somehow gone terribly wrong. The hope didn't help the paranoia at all. He felt sick in all sorts of ways. Oh dear.

Wendell, socially uncomfortable extraordinaire, was so concerned he'd actually been able to scrape together enough bravery to ask for assistance from random strangers. That was incredible! He was a small, very worried, nerdy man with a mission.

He needed to find and talk to a little black hole eldritch mix. A baby, supposedly ten in age. That was… very tiny, wasn't it? Goodness. To Wendell, the image he had, and giddiness he felt over this, was similar to what someone normal might feel for a bunch of ducklings. When he reached the courtyard, very glad he'd gotten help along the way with finding this child, he found that this feeling was all wrong.

It was more like meeting a hoard of ducklings, kittens, and puppies all at once. No mercy. Wendell could've started crying, but luckily, he avoided that- and just timidly approached the little tentacled bundle of precious instead, a hesitant smile on his face.

He peered down at the child lying on the ground, getting in their line of sight and trying not to be too much of a surprising, alarming presence. Not that he was all that… imposing, just, ever.

Wendell's cheeks were tinted pink, and his voice wobbled when he spoke, tugging slightly at his sweater. He was so bad at being a steady adult figure- especially when he was both moved by otherworldly cuteness and still very worried. "H-hello," he said.

His soft blue eyes were starting to glitter, though, so very pleased to be presented with such a beautiful, fascinating being. Black hole and eldritch, that was just… that was something special. So, when he continued, he was more confident, warmth in his face. "My name is Dr. Wendell Paige. I'm, ah, someone who works with and studies those of your species. I'm here to talk to you and make sure you're doing okay in your life here, and maybe even offer you a special place to live. Does that all sound okay?"

Oooooh that cloud looked like a duck! A duck with its butt in the air - Tenta didn't really have a butt, not like humans, there was really just 'lower back' and then 'tentacles' and their tentacles didn't even really have a defined attachment point - and something lurking over it. What was that? Was it a cloud monster? For dreaming up stories behind clouds, that was spectacularly uncreative, but cloud monsters were probably a real thing. Real people.

That wasn't a cloud, that was someone's actual face!

Tenta blinked a few times, more curious-surprised than shocked, and tilted their head a bit without immediately getting up. Even if Tenta had been inclined to feel or familiar with fear and intimidation in any way - not easy things to have triggered in a reality-mangling everything-eating child with black-hole-proof skin and not much instinctive sense for danger - this guy wouldn't have brought up any of them. He was just a person.

A kinda colourful person!

The small child wriggled until they were more or less sitting, perched on a comfortable nest of leg tentacles with their hands in their lap and cheerfully glowing head tentacles draped casually around their shoulders like a heated blanket in marshmallow tube form.

"Hi!" Tenta's voice seemed very normal and organically resonant, considering that inside their skin was literally just black hole and their skin was really just a film of lazy eldritch flesh.

Dr. Wendell Paige. Doctor? Who studied their species? Were there more black hole eldritch people or did the little-but-still-bigger guy mean just one of them, or each separately?

"Doing okay? Oh yeah. What kind of special place? Is there food? The cafeteria kicks me out every day." Oooooh leaf! Tenta caught it in a head tentacle, the appendage curving around it to keep it from blowing away before it could get to their mouth. It was a big leaf, and covered in mould for extra volume!

Wendell gave a little sigh, and resisted the urge to clutch his chest. So cute. Oh no. This was just too much, his heart could hardly take it. The baby didn't seem alarmed by him, not that things of eldritch relation ever tended to be, but he was glad nonetheless. His overall paranoia was fading, since this child seemed like they were fairly happy, not distressed at all. Still, he hoped to help improve that happiness even more.

"Eldritch dorms, designed to handle more powerful, reality warping species better!" The doctor began to explain, voice warm with promises and hopes. "I'm sure if you have concerns, like not having enough food, we can talk it over and figure out innovative solutions. Oh, gosh, I have so many thoughts for you, little one, I-" He paused to watch the leaf eating, inwardly nodding. This baby probably didn't have a sense of taste, or they just didn't mind the traditionally icky things, and that could be a point of...

Ah. That wouldn't do, he felt bad about not asking this right away. "Might you have a name, dear?" He asked, kindly. "There wasn't one in your file, I apologize."

Oh. Reality warping. Tenta didn't want to do that, but they'd heard that they did... and people did get confused by the occasionally shifting number of tentacles and teeth and stuff... so maybe it would be best to live somewhere that accounted for all of that?

The flicker of less-than-cheer was brief and mild, and then there was talk of food and Tenta launched themself straight upwards, bouncing a few times. "I want food!" Leaves were food but more was always better, and to be entirely honest there were foodstuffs that felt better on their hands. Some people talked about how food felt in their mouth, but since Tenta was just black hole inside hand-feel was the sensation that existed.

"My name's Tenta!" It was a good name, they liked it. "It was my friend SK's idea. I didn't have a name before I met them."

........ oh hey. Tenta knew the Dr-Wendell-Paige-person's name, and now he knew Tenta's name, so that meant they weren't strangers, right? And since it seemed to be inappropriate to hug strangers here .....

Maybe it would be okay to hug the doctor! Tenta had to try! They bounced forward with tentacles spread and tiny hands reaching. "Do you like hugs?"
