Control. Power. Afternoon tea socials.
Age: 41
Birthday: May 8th
Species: Human, witch.
Gender: Cis female
Sexuality: A lesbian. 100%. Actually finally coming to terms with it now that her arranged marriage husband is out of the picture, and she's a damn free woman. (Her son Clarence takes after her a great deal in same gender enthusiasm, oops. They totally bond over it, as well as tease each other. She'd love to bond with her other child, Val, about these things as well but. It's hard going.)
Category: Citizen. School donor. Current head of one of the oldest, and richest, families on the island. Power mom. (...Hot mom?)
Appearance Description:

Alva is stunning, to put it short and sweetly. As well as genetics coming into play, the effort she puts into always looking good, the quality of what she wears and decorates herself with, and the vibe she gives off all make her something special.
Alva is definitely on the tall side at six feet two inches. She's very willowy, body type wise, with accentuated facial features and light skin. She has a decently strong jawline, nicely shaped stand-out eyebrows, and most often, darker red lips. She has dark green eyes. Her hair is thick, glossy and well kept, with a rich dark chocolate brown color. It's styled to start swirling in heavy, curly waves at the ends/lower down, and the whole texture has a stubborn wave to it. Her hair comes down just a bit below her shoulders. When in public and being showy, she always wears it down, but otherwise she'll sometimes put it up in various ways. Usually, just a messy bun or ponytail.
Alva's clothes are classy, glamorous, and usually in darker colors. She likes tactful jewelry, usually one or two pieces at a time only, but very high quality pieces. She likes to try to keep things elegantly simple when she can.
Alva Crowther radiates.
And may or may not get called a 'hot mom' by her son's friends (not to his face, for the most part).
Personality Description:
Alva is very elegant, and does things right the first time, all the way through. She's not incapable of casual, but her version of it is still questionable. Alva dresses and shows off to impress herself just as much as others. She likes being what she is, she really does- it shines though. Alva has a lot of genuine, assured, calm energy. While Alva is good at quick wit, she very much likes to think things through and be as smart as possible about all that she does. Alva's solid, settled identity is both from her natural personality, the way she was raised and trained, and with age and experience. She uses an even temperament as a weapon when she can, as others becoming more and more flustered while you stay respectable does wonders.
Alva loves her children, especially her son Clarence, very dearly, and will not take insults to them lightly, however. This is one of the few things that can get her outwardly displeased with you. In other situations? She might disapprove, but she'll act the same, and then quietly inflict negative consequences on the offender later on. Consequences that could never specifically be tied back to her, but definitely wouldn't be missed as perhaps being that, either.
You have to make an example out of certain kinds of people, that's simply the way things were. Nip the disrespect in the bud, before it gets out of control, and send a message in the process.
If you're actually a real friend to Alva, she does relax and add a lot of genuine affection into the mix of things.
Alva really, really likes a beautiful, intelligent woman to share a bottle of wine with. It's hard at times for her to think of settling down again (without getting into something very serious first), not with her busy position and how the last relationship worked out, but she really adores girls, and can't resist showing them her appreciation. Alva is a very high quality, all in sort of lover, and wants to please a partner however she can. Conversationally, emotionally, physically, etc. Crowthers go all out. In terms of preference, Alva adores a girl that's confident and striking as a person. As much as delicate flowers are pretty, and can be nice for a spin, she likes substance, especially in her older age. She likes challenge. Presence. To be swept off her feet by the existence of someone, and to return the favor. Powerful women that know who they are, that's what Alva likes. Perhaps it could even be considered narcissistic, if you look at it that way, but ever burning fire needs fire.
Powers/Species traits:
Witch blooded/Old money, old power:
Extra charm/Look at me: It isn't huge, but it's definitely enough, and a bit of a boost/thing to spice things up.
(Personal) Resistance to outside magic, and enhancement of your own: This is very helpful when making business deals with tricky devils. Strong ability.
Sturdy: Passive ability, not much, just a little more durable than a normal human would be, but in a general sense to all sorts of threats. As well as resistance, there's a bit easier of healing. But really, it's not too much in comparison to some other things.
Magical energy manipulation: Pure magical energy usage, with the intent generally affecting what happens with it. Best used in someone with both large magical reserves, and mental control/determination, which Alva happens to be. Fairly easy things to use this for include telekinesis and pain causing. Strong ability.
Aura/magic/power sensing: Passive ability. Alva's good at feeling magic, it's in her blood.
Ancient Family Gifts: (VERY PASSIVE, NOT A POWER BUT A SPECIES DESC/DESC FOR OTHERS INTERACTING WITH HER) Born to a well known, very old, rich with both money and magic, family; Alva has what she's expected to have. Her magic carries the mark and taste of her family, the refinement carefully molded and bred over generations. It's slower and heavier than some newer, fresher magic, but powerful, and some traditions exist for a reason. Her own personal addition to the magic has a clever, fresher edge to it, however.
Personal power specifications:
Warding, shields, protections, and alarms: Alva is very good at setting up professional barriers and warning, security systems. Generally, her preference is to protect her family as well as make them look good with their more passive outward behavior. Alva also likes to stop trouble before it gets near starting. Strong ability.
Magical prodigy: Even if not skilled in something, generally, Alva can grasp the basic concept of something very quickly, both from natural talent and intelligence/interest- and be ready to try at least the bare bones of it out. There's some mimicry elements in here, if she can get a feel for another person's magic/is near them. She can do a lot if she puts her mind to it, but that's usually more long term than instant use.
Tear walking/storing: There are little torn bits all over in the universe, that lead into a neutral zone. Alva tries not to overuse this in everyday life, but she can manage it, especially with her good eye for magic energy. These aren't portals, they're just things that are there, if you know how to find them. And if you're brave enough to play around with them.
Ominous: Alva has a good sense for when something bad is coming in the near future, and when certain people seem more tied to it, and uses this knowledge to keep herself ahead of the game for the most part.
Make it your own: When Alva uses magic, she puts her own sharp and unique twist/feel on it, and she loves getting inventive with things. Old magic is good, and worthy of pride, but you have to add new spice into it to keep it fresh, growing, and in power. Half passive ability.
Biography:
Alva Crowther was a gift to the family, and that much was known as soon as she was born, with the magic she gave off. She was exactly the kind of child they'd bred for, the ideal, a representative of the best outcome. It got overwhelming at times.
As a child, Alva remedied this by juggling her duties and teachings with expeditions and experiments. She'd sneak out. And do a lot of urban, street magic, because that was where you really got a feel for magic. The electricity, the energy, the allure of it all. An appreciation for the fresh, just as much as the old.
People drawing power from the bustle of an area filled with people and bright lights in the dark, potion makers illegally giving out free samples of their new wares. How magical children liked to exchange charmed friendship bracelets with each other, with things like warmth or protection. Lacing spells through phone calls. Magic graffiti in wild places, swirling, living murals, that can be heard as well as seen. One man bands with floating instruments. Cars with paintjobs covered in sigils. Secret magic fairs.
Alva took her education into her own hands, most of the time, and was intensely eager to learn in a world that was so bright and full of sparks. She was a natural at this.
Until her parents got antsy with the things happening around them, and told her she had to marry and continue the line. She did. They died very early into things, perhaps even more stressed out due to how one of the children- the one known as being interwoven with death- had turned out.
One twin a monster, one completely magically impotent. The family was doomed, and they'd given up too easily.
Alva decided, in the end, that neither her parents or husband were true Crowthers anyway. Crowthers were more stubborn than that, and worked with what they had before then going farther than expected to. Alva and her children. That was what they were. True, proper Crowthers, even if those before them and those who pushed their way in hadn't seen that. Their mistake.
Alva, after almost dying in childbirth due to the influence of her magically overpowered child, spent most of her time raising and bonding with the child some wanted to give up on, Clarence. Alva would've liked to take care of her more dangerous child, as well, but her controlling husband had kept her away from it. Kept her away for too long, to the point where it was seemingly too late to fix things. Not that she wasn't going to try, eventually.
And so Valentine was molded by her husband, and Clarence by her. And she had raised Clarence as the perfect heir. While this wasn't surprising to most, since the public didn't know he was magicless, it gave her a deep sense of personal pride. And there were, or course, a few that were close to them that had their minds changed by her and the child she'd brought up to be their best.
Things went bad in the children's late teen years, when both were experimenting with sexual identity (and in Val's case, gender identity). Their father, the obnoxious, scared traditionalist he was, wanted poor Clarence (who had been trying to get the man's attention for years) to get engaged to a young rich girl of their choosing (and stop making eyes at boys), and Val to stop playing girl while with the girls. Multiple girls.
Everything came together when her husband found out about, or at least finally decided to act upon, the fact that Clarence had been with one boyfriend for quite a while now. Too long for just playing. Things all happened too fast and too out of Alva's awareness, and before she knew it, she had a dead son.
Soon after that, she had a dead husband, who died even slower than the son he'd made bleed to death.
Valentine, skilled necromancer, brought his twin back to life around the next day or so. But when Alva had gone down, under, into the passages and remnants of older darker days, just her and her husband... late husband, she hadn't been sure. She hadn't been sure if Val could bring him back or not.
If he hadn't, she probably would've gone farther, and lost something in the process. But nothing was more important than her family. Her children. Her Clarence, who it seemed as though just yesterday barely reached her knee in height. Who was now dead, but alive, and giving off the feeling of being much older and less loving of the world.
She should've killed that man earlier. It was easy, to say it was private business, and he wasn't missed. She was doing better. So, so much better, and always had been.
She was going to continue to do better.
Family Members:
Clarence Crowther, son, half alive and doing better, she thinks. Which means a lot to her. She has a very, very close relationship with Clarence, and has vowed to keep a better watch over him, if she can.
Valentine 'Val' Crowther, child, questionable status. Alva wants to be there for her other son, but they've been distant for far too long, so it's a hard battle. She shouldn't have allowed her husband to take him away from them all, like he did.
Julius Crowther, former husband, killed with her own hands- no magic involved. She'd needed to get at him in the realest way possible, after what he did. After she almost thought he son was gone. Because of him. He never deserved to be married to her, married into the family, nor to father their children. The world is better off without the man, even if nobody other than her knew that truth. He's somewhere deep down in the underground tunnel network now, and very nondescript.
General -
Birth Place / Hometown: Manta Carlos
Occupation: Full time head of the Crowther family, which entails a lot of different things. Let it be noted that the Crowther's have their fingers in a lot of different pies, and try to add more whenever possible. So even at the suggestion of something they'd never tried before (although never is doubtful, with their age and ambition), they'll be enthusiastic, bright, and willing to be challenging and receive challenges.
Personality -
Worst Memory: Getting married to her previous husband- but she can't bring herself to regret everything. Without him she wouldn't have the kids she has now. But with him, those kids were also left with scars that can never be fixed. Not even by a mother. It breaks her heart, and keeps her up at night. Her biggest regret is not killing that man earlier.
Best Memory: Raising Clarence, and continuing to do so.
Likes: Her son Clarence, above all else. Being a Crowther, and representing that name well. Control. Power. Afternoon tea socials. Excelling in anything she can, even if she doesn't need to. Trying new things. Looking after her lovely family property. Party planning, hosting, etc. Eating and drinking to appreciate tastes, not just to quell hunger or thirst. The arts.
Dislikes: Clarence being hurt/threatened/etc. People who have no manners, respect, or ability to understand the tension of a situation and when something is and isn't appropriate. People who react with aggression before all else, and who don't take any time to think about a situation. Although, those who take too long to move on something are... equally to blame for things. Bad quality, half done things.
Weaknesses: Her children being threatened.
Strengths: Magical power and improvisation. Strategizing. Manipulating a situation. Being subtle, and in control. Charm. High society knowledge, etiquette, and grooming. Making deals that work on both sides.
Fears: Losing her children, and her family name/power, especially the idea of it crashing down all at once.
Habits/Hobbies: Putting on careful and quality private events. Excelling. Spoiling her son Clarence and just generally spending time with him whenever she can.
Additional Information:
Even if they haven't personally met her or been to one of her events, people on island and further should be at least vaguely aware of Alva's existence and reputation, and the fact that she'd the current head of the Crowther family. Old magic, old money, plenty of connections, and not stopping any time soon.
While her son Clarence puts on the big, showy, raging parties, she puts together smaller more personal and respectable things. High society get togethers/business opportunities, in a nice, neutral enough setting. Alva makes it her business to meet new friends and partners whenever possible, and puts on these intimate events regularly- around two times a month or more.
If you're willing to behave yourself, be intelligent and willing to make things happen or at least be friendly, and you'll respect your hosts, and you're important/wealthy/etc, then you'll probably be welcome there. Pleasant company, and networking. Those that have children, family, or relevant business partners are also welcome to bring them along- if they can behave/be trusted. Especially seeing Alva's son is always involved/advertises for her when he can.
If anyone shows too many signs of violence, attempts to steal from the Crowthers, or generally impolite and antagonistic behaviour, there will be no hesitation to kick them out. The Crowther mansion is a no danger, neutral zone for get togethers, and will be staying that way if Alva has anything to say about it. Those that throw tantrums will not be tolerated, or taken seriously.
