Coraline spun around him, hiding behind his tall frame. She stabbed her spear into the ground to hide it behind him, and waited. A pair of men in suits ran by, chattering into an earpiece. They seemed to be searching for something, or someone.

"Negative. The princess is not at the beach, Over. Returning to headquarters for instructions."

A few seconds later, Coraline spoke up.

"...Are they gone?"

Sudden movement, noise and distraction. Coete stood still, waiting, but the rush moved past without drawing him into its chaos. He didn't relax, having never tensed, but replied to Coraline without turning towards her. It might be polite to sighted people, to face who you were speaking to, but a pair of blind people -

Hm. The strangers had said 'princess' and Coraline had hid from them. His face darkened as his mood soured. Royalty and he did not have the best history, and that affected his opinions even if this was undoubtedly unrelated to Lenui's mad cruelty.

"Are you royalty?" he asked flatly. The air chilled again as he drew a bit of magic around himself.

Rational or emotional. To even face the decision, not only its aftermath, proved that he should choose rational...

He wasn't entirely sure he could. Not even with her words. After all...

"You say that, but giving the people who support your position the chance to learn how to keep you there is hardly proving it. You can simply /go./ Take nothing and leave no trail. Disappearing is rather easy."

Just walk away from everything and start from scratch.

Again.

Coraline didn't really understand Coetes words.

"Hoe could i just leave, abandoning my people?" She asked, the confusion and hesitation evident in her voice.

"I just want their respect, and a bit of freedom. Where i come from, i get treated like a fragile little doll. I'm the blind princess, or her majesty. Nobody ever just calls me by my name, except for my parents. Those men, those are my handlers." Her voice hitched almost imperceptibly. "They follow me around, test my food, guard rooms i go into. I don't get to do anything by myself. I just want to be able to stand alone, and show i can do things by myself, and prove i can be a good queen."

Mr.Slithers coiled around her, wrapping around her stomach in what could only be described as a comforting manner.
