where daylight doesn't matter

This didn't feel like the same beach. Not really. But it was; he didn't need functional eyes to know it was. He just had to feel the magic around him. It was definitely the same beach. He had nearly died here.

Nearly, but not quite, and so even if he was still limping, as much from a back that wasn't sure what it was doing as from the bandaging and still-healing tear from hip to knee.

Hey. He still didn't have to deal with people staring at him; he still couldn't tell what sighted people were looking at.

Coraline was walking along the beach, feeling the warm sand between her toes. They didn't have too many sandy beaches like this back home, so this was a luxury for her. The butt of her spear pressed into the ground, giving her a vague picture of the people around, though it was a tad distorted from the sand. Mr.Slithers was wrapped around her waist, like a belt.

She was getting lost in thought, thinking of this new island, and the new-found freedom she had. Freedom.

She still had a few handlers, but she had slipped away from them to come to the beach.

So lost in her thoughts was she that she didn't notice that she hadn't tapped the ground in a while.

That's when she bumped into a person.

"Oh. My apologies." She said, as Mr.Slithers coiled tighter around her, looking at the man without really moving.

Was there still blood in the sand? Coete would know only by running it through his fingers to see if it was stuck together, or smelling a handful for iron. Was it good or bad that he didn't get that closure?

Someone bumped into him and jostled him out of thought. Rather abruptly, as it happened, since he automatically put more weight on his injured leg in order to stay upright in the loose sand. He turned and felt around with his magic and one hand, rough and peeling with unshed scales.

"No harm done," he said blankly, not emotionally awake enough to be bothered. "Are you all right?"

Coraline blinked, and nodded. "I am fine. My apologies, I was lost in thought." She dug her spear into the ground, a wave of nature magic spreading through the sand.

Mr.Slithers unraveled from around her waist, slithering up her body and flicking his tongue out at Coete.

Tapped into the local magic as he was, Coete staggered under a wave of sudden nausea. Something magical had just... Rippled.

The illness passed, and he wasn't quite sure if the hip-height movement he had just felt was part of the disorientation or not.

He kept some awareness out for it, but also kept closer tabs on future rushes of magic. "It happens. I was preoccupied as well.". His voice was a bit more strained now but similarly empty.

Having her keen sense of hearing, Coraline was able to hear the wobbles in Coetes voice.

"...Are you alright?" She asked cocking her head to the side, talking to Coete's chest.

Mr.Slithers continued to sniff at Coete, his tongue flicking out rapidly to get his scent.

Mr.Slithers hissed again, coiling back around Coralines shoulders. The green haired princess nodded.

"Yes. I am blind." She stated, very matter-of-factly. Now to get the inevitable 'Oh you're blind? Oh do you need any help?' or 'Oh you poor thing'.
