The faun covered his mouth with a hand as he laughed at the little kitten running around. "My boyfriend is very nice." He missed him a little. Maybe he should pay him a surprise visit for the holidays. When the cat started freaking out, Amphy got worried and started to stand to help him, but he calmed down quickly enough on his own.

"Do you have a home to return to? I'm sure they're worried about you."

Audrey settled himself and busied himself neatening his fur and hair for a moment, mostly because he could, mostly because he felt like it. Mostly because, really, and he could have as many mostlies as he wanted because he was a cat, hah.

"A home? Just whenever someone is still being nice and patting me," the kitten said absently, attention clearly focused on the striped bangs that just would not behave themselves. Darned noncat hair. "I had one back before, but they replaced me when I got lost so I'm not going back there ever ever ever."

Amphy listened patiently to the ghost cat's story. He'd assume that the cat didn't have anyplace to stay right at this moment, so he could presumably stay as long as he liked. Looking outside, it was dark, and he seemed to fear the animals that prowled outside, so he leaned back.

"You can stay here for a while then, little one." he wrapped the spare cookies up. He would give them to Yikmo next time he saw the little albino lad. "Wouldn't want you to go outside and get hurt."

A pause.

"Can ghosts get hurt?"

Audrey gave up on his fur and abruptly sprang over to Amphy. "I cannnn?" A short burst of purring slipped out, and the ghost kitten bounced his shoulder against the faun in thanks. "Can I stay by the fire? It's so warm and nice. Oooohhhhhhh will you stay by the fire too?" And pat him. That was obvious, of course. Petting a cat by the fire was absolute perfection.

"I don't know if I can get hurt, but you can protect me right? You should stay right with me by the fire, fire scares bad things away." The kitten nodded sharply, hair and ears bouncing with the force of his conviction. And the weight of his ulterior motive.

At all the requests, Amphy's head started to spin. But he was alright, ultimately. Stormy, the little bundle of energy she was made him get used to being around overly excitable animals. Then again though, Stormy didn't talk. Yikmo didn't talk either. Neither of his adopted children spoke at all. Maybe he would get used to fast speech once she learned to speak.

Thank god he at least didn't have to worry about that with Yikmo.

Amphy put away the cookies and sat down closer to the fire. Near the fire the slight chill from the outside was chased away.

YAY FIRE PETS WERE COMING. Audrey wasted no time at all in racing Amphy and sprawled on the hearth, tail waving in excitement. Pets.

...

He pawed at Amphy, and then impulsively rolled over onto his back, waving his limbs a little and attempting to catch a dust mote - and then yawning until his jaw cracked and his tongue curled to touch his upper teeth.

Then he shook himself and flopped on his side against Amphios.

"I like fires," he said cheerily, apparently not at all tired despite the yawn.

Near the fire was a place that Amphy wasn't that attracted to--at least, not recently. Before his whole hut had a nice heating system, he liked to curl up next to it before putting it out and going to bed. He didn't really like to keep the fire burning at night. Even if it was surrounded by packed mud and brick, both of which would smother it before it could spread, the faun still worried.

But there was something nice about just sitting next to a fire, he thought as he reached over and gave the kitten next to him a long, languid pat.

Amphy was a slow petter, but his pets were satisfying, long nimble fingers massaging his neck and under his chin.

See? Audrey's scheme was perfect. Coming to this little secluded home was an amazing plan and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Totally planned out, all for this culmination. Lounging by a fire with someone who

wow

really knew how to work a cat-throat.

Audrey paused for a few long moments, not even purring as he just basked in the attention. His upper lip wavered, shifting whiskers that were no longer anchored there, and then the half-reincarnated kitten's rumbling purring started.

There was... a lot of purring. Drawn out, languid purring yes, but lots of drawn out, languid purring.

Amphy smiled at the strange face the kitten-person made. He tried to keep in mind how such an expression would look on a normal kitten face, but he couldn't help but notice the strangeness of an upper lip twitching like that.

But his fingers continued to massage the kitten, basking in the warmth of his fire, almost wanting to curl up in front of it himself.
