Daniel's grin doubled in width as he found the page he was looking for. A character in the book had a ring that broke their curse when they put it on. Daniel showed Yun the page.

"Yeah, but most nonfiction books don't generally work for me..." The boy stuck his hand into the pages of the book excitedly, pushing his arm in up to his elbow. He pulled the cursebreaking ring out, smiling.

"Now, this might work. If you put this on..."

Yun carefully kept his tail away from the book as he peered at it, whiskers twitching. The movement of his eyes was a lot more dramatic when he read as a cat, given the difference in size, and his expression shifted as he read.

It flipped straight to momentary shock when Daniel shoved his arm into the book, and he backed up to where he could get a proper view. "That is an interesting power," he said, ears flicking from side to side as he considered. Pulling physical things out of books.

He was still suspicious, though. "That's what it is? The same cursebreaking ring as in the book?" It did look like the description.

Daniel nodded. "Yeah. I'm not sure if your curse and the protagonists curse are similar, but hopefully the magic principle is the same. If I slip it on your tail, there might be a chance?"

The libriomancer held the ring up, letting it glint in the light, wisps of golden magic faintly leaving it's surface in minuscule tendrils.

His words made sense, and it logically would take a rather awkward and extensive chain of plots and luck for this to be a scheme. Still, better safe than sorry....

Yun patted the couch cushion in front of himself. "I'll put it on a paw myself. No need to test its vulnerability to fire at the same time." Or test consent. Yun wasn't giving Danny permission for anything, not really. Definitely no authority.

Yun waited until Danny had put the ring down, and then deftly slipped one paw into it. Regardless of his curse, this was one of his natural forms and it came as naturally to him as breathing. He tucked it up higher with his other paw like a human pushing up a bracelet.

He didn't feel anything, but his curse was a subtle one. He tried to shift, pressing against that aspect of his magic, of his nature...

Nothing happened. The gate remained as stubbornly closed as it always had since this horror had begun. At least he didn't feel any particular compulsion to do Danny's will.

He pushed the ring off again. He couldn't even feel magic properly like this, and he hated it. "Nope, nothing."
