Lazy days started in the afternoon for some. Tazhee was one; strong sunlight and heat bothered his eyes, even if daylight didn't set his flesh alight. Besides, the dark was entertaining. It was full of shadow and danger. The sketchiest people came out at night.
It wasn't night yet, but the autumn was pulling the sun down and it was already noticeably darker in the streets than it had been. The crowd was starting to shift. The kids faded away, and the legal businesspeople. The teenagers lingered, and the nocturnal ones started to emerge. It was a wonderful time for things to happen, when the hunters began to creep among the naïve. Tazhee was a hunter, though mostly from boredom. Not entirely, but mostly. He was growing hungry, but he didn't feed at random unless the situation was delightfully appropriate. He had blood at home that would suit him just fine.
He did so love live blood, though, and he didn't have any of that kicking around. Perhaps he would be lucky. Perhaps he'd find a tasty immortal -
or perhaps someone would be unlucky enough to catch the chupacabra's eye.
Ooooooooooh, like that one. Deliciously innocent, and probably caught out late unexpectedly. The sort of person that shouldn't be there, and wouldn't be expected to be there.
The sort of person who would be hard to trace in the dark, hoping to solve a missing person report.
The chupacabra strolled over casually, smiling but lips closed over his array of teeth. His copper eyes glinted with their own fire, and his tail coiled and recoiled lazily behind him.
"You look a tad lost, m'dear," he purred. "Would you like some assistance?"
