Appearance Description:
Personality Description: Though he will normally speak as formally as he dresses, Henley isn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, a gentleman. His words are usually biting and cold, but not truly meant to harm-- it’s just how Henley is, despite the almost fragile aura that radiates from him. This delicateness is perpetuated by his narcolepsy, which gives his softer features a constantly sleepy, exhausted look. He’ll often nod off at random times during the day, and has great trouble sleeping at night. But, because he’s the type of person that is absolutely a pain to deal with when tired, his attitude is usually less-than-kind, especially because he’s always tired. Henley, however, can indeed become quite gentle with those who manage to capture his affection. So far, this only includes his adoptive parents and the small bunny he convinced his parents to allow him to take to the Academy. No one’s quite sure how to get on that very short list-- not for lack of trying, of course--, but Henley secretly finds it amusing to watch the things people come up with in hopes of finding something he likes, so he tends to act fondly brusque even to those that he’s become attached to until they catch on and yell at him
Powers:
Biography: Henley’s birth wasn’t planned, nor was it even wanted. He had been conceived during a fling between two strangers, and when his mother found out she was pregnant, she seriously considered getting an abortion. Some deeply buried maternal instinct rebelled, however, at the thought of killing her unborn child simply because she didn’t want to be burdened with it. And so, she soldiered through the nine months, and when her seemingly healthy baby boy was born, she kept him long enough to name him before leaving him in an orphanage and hightailing it out town.
While growing up in an orphanage wasn’t conventional and had its ups and downs, Henley’s life didn’t really take a turn for the worse until he started having trouble sleeping just before his 10th birthday. During the makeshift academic classes the matrons put together, he would doze off, only to wake up soon after. His sleep pattern was heavily interrupted, and the night often saw him sneaking out of his shared room’s window to sit against the building and stare at the stars.
He endured this life for two more years, when, on a group outing to the local zoo, he had what the matrons had called an ‘episode’ and fell asleep crossing the street. A bit disoriented, Henley didn’t notice the car until it was too late-- for the car, at least. His power manifested itself at the sudden burst of fear and adrenaline, causing a spike of soul energy to form a barrier that stopped the car dead in its tracks. The front of the car was crushed, but everyone involved was fine. Rushed to the hospital amidst confusion and only a tad bit of wariness, Henley was pronounced to be 100% healthy, aside from his narcolepsy.
After that incident, everyone started avoiding him in fear of provoking whatever power had saved Henley’s life. Even the matrons tried not to interact with him unless they had to. Now a complete anathema to the others, Henley grew withdrawn and distant. Oh, he was as impeccably polite as before, but after the emergence of his power, he willingly left the other children and matrons alone. He became so used to his isolation, that, when a couple came to the orphanage to adopt a child two years later, it never occurred to Henley that they would ever consider him.
The couple, however, were quite unusual themselves. The elder by three years was a homosexual drag queen, while the younger was pansexual and just so happened to be an alumnus of Starlight Academy; he had the more common ability of elemental manipulation, specializing in water and wind. With such diversity between the two of them, they were accepting of the odd duckling that Henley had become, and quickly grew fond of the quiet boy.
Five years later, Henley has become more assured of his adopted family’s love for him, and that they feared nothing about the boy. Henley’s da postponed his Academy letter so he could become accustomed to his new family and home, though he looked forward to the curious Academy ever since his da regaled him with tales of the place. He did seem to come out of his shell a bit, but still with a rather standoffish and easily irritable disposition due to his narcolepsy, Henley’s difficult to befriend. He’s gotten over having to take classes with others his age, but really only has a weak spot for his pet bunny, Bamboo, and his parents.

Powers:
- Stronger power: Henley is able to, at will, manipulate his own soul, the very part of his being that makes him who he is.
- Weaker power: As well as manipulating his own soul, Henley can see visible manifestations of the souls belonging to those around him.
- Strengths: His ‘soul sight’, as he’s dubbed it, allows him to see people for who they truly are-- the more malignant a person, the darker their soul will appear to him, something he describes as looking ‘infected with poison’; conversely, the more well-meaning people will appear to have ‘lighter’ souls, ones that feel airy and warm. Though people are layered, three-dimensional beings with mercurial personalities, he will be able to interpret their intentions depending on how their soul appears to him.
Depending on the level of concentration and energy he puts into it, Henley is able to channel his soul and mold it into a weapon to be used at will. This often manifests itself as shockwaves he can aim with any one of his limbs through actions such as punching and kicking, or even simple flicks and pokes. On the rare occasion he comes across a weapon able to channel soul energy, he can utilize them as weapons, molding his soul to form bullets in a gun, or coating a blade with his soul energy, for example. The latter is the technique he uses for shields as well, coating the shield with his soul to strengthen and reinforce it to something that cannot be pierced by most attacks or weapons. - Weaknesses: Because it is indeed his own soul he is using, any and all damage will be reflected in his own well-being. High amounts of damage will translate to a decline in his sanity as well, and should his soul be irreparably harmed through offensive or defensive measures, he will fall into a deep coma, one in which he will never awaken from-- his body will be nothing but a shell, physically unscathed but unresponsive and utterly empty (think of the dementor’s Kiss in Harry Potter). As one can imagine, this is one of the main reasons Henley rarely utilizes his primary power.
Similarly, his narcolepsy is also a cause of his reluctance. Because his primary power-- and to a much lesser extent, his minor power-- requires a moderate amount of concentration even for the smaller actions, it’s difficult for him to maintain the focus necessary to manipulate his soul if he’s falling asleep every so often. As such, he normally depends on his minor power, leaving his primary power to be used in extreme cases of self-defence/attack.
