Charlie really hadn't meant to annoy the old dude, but at least he'd been annoyed by something other than what she'd meant. "I didn't meant you shouldn't've said anything at all - just that - well. Not having any idea of who to go hunt down is kind of like crawling through mud instead of water."

Well now that was a random bush kid reference.

ANYWAY.

Take someone's eyes out. Territorial dragon deciding to attack.

Charlie went a little bit pale. Legitimate physical danger from or to others wasn't something they were particularly familiar or comfortable with. It was one thing to risk his own safety doing idiot things of her own free will. This was a lot more stressful.

He nodded a tiny bit, feeling stiff and wary. How was she supposed to know if some random person was a territorial dragon who was about to kill him in some dramatic draconic fashion?

"Thank you." Even if the words were tiny, they still made it out through the haze of OH COME ON.

He'd only meant it as a simple reminder, but he supposed that humans were that much softer. The truth was, after four thousand years he'd sort of gotten used to the idea of human's dropping dead at anything more severe than a scratch. Even if medicine and hospitals and all that were helping humans lived longer, it still seemed to him like they all dropped dead in a blink of an eye, even when they didn't suffer some horrible accident.

Maybe he was just jaded.

"Sorry." He admitted, scratching his head. "I'm sure you'll be fine. Just... look into it, or whatever." He said, before letting them lapse into silence. At least things were easier on Juvie Island. No one cared if he was too harsh there. If anything, they preferred when he was too harsh.

Fine. Old guy was 'sure' he'd be 'fine.' Was getting attacked out of nowhere by a dragon 'fine,' or was it not actually a thing and he'd only just realized that it was past the line?

No, wait. Just no. He didn't have to stick around here and stress about it. She had a very effective mechanism for both sorting things out and setting them aside. He just had to go back to running. That was why she was out here today anyway. To run.

He couldn't make words work, though, so she kind of just... nodded at the old guy and got up. And started walking. Then words worked a bit. "I- I'm going. To go do. That. Yeah. Uh. Bye."

He was polite enough to only start jogging - and just jogging, not running - when she was back on the path and a reasonable distance away.

Even if it wouldn't have upset him, he wasn't quite far gone enough to have decided that he was the sole arbitrator of what was or wasn't upsetting.

He gave her a wave and a small smile, barely suppressing a chuckle. Well, she'd figure it out, one way or another. He turned away, trying to ignore his awareness of the presence behind him, and started back down the path. He had errands to do, after all, and his 'good deed' of the day was done, so perhaps karma would be kind to him for once and let him complete his errands without being bothered.
