It had occurred to the child to wonder if maybe the school was right - that maybe there was no pointing, since they were always hungry anyway. That didn't really make sense, though. Eating was what black holes did. That was what their mom had taught them to do. And everyone agreed that hunger, the desire to consume foodstuffs, meant that one should eat.

Maybe the black hole child just needed vastly more food than the people here? Maybe. They didn't know, and how could they? Their mother was not available to ask, if she even knew, and no one else had come close to even meeting a black hole.

Right now, though, was not the right time for questioning the world. Right now was the right time to learn how to use a utensil efficiently.

... It wasn't going so well. Their hands were too small, and while they could sometimes have more or less fingers size wasn't something they knew how to really mess with at will.

The food-provider was talking, and the black hole child quickly glanced sideways. "SK?" That was a cool name. "I don't have a name."

SK watched the tentacle child try and eat with the spoon like they had been doing. It was clear to them that they were having some difficulty. They reached over and picked up their food. "Here, open your mouth. I'll pour it in."

The half drow had no way of knowing if this would actually be easier, but anything would be easier than watching them forever being frustrated with how spoons work.

"You don't have a name? Hm... but I have to call you something.... I know! I'll call you Tenta!"

The black hole child blinked at the taller kid. But they had been eating with a utensil, and they knew they were supposed to also eat with one...

but pouring it in would be much faster and more effective, so okay!

"....You want to call me Tenta?" The child tilted their head, considering. It wasn't a weird, pointlessly descriptive thing, like that person who had found out that they were half black hole and then tried to declare them to be 'Blacky.' Tenta was.

Hm.

Their look of concentration and consideration faded and they grinned, wide and eerie and honestly rather dangerous to anything in the immediate vicinity that risked brushing against the jagged edges of face.

"I like it! Tenta~"

SK grinned, showing their own sharp teeth when it seemed that Tenta liked the sound of the name they'd just given the little child. They waited until their mouth was open, and then he started to pour the food into their mouth.

Shockingly, this actually seemed to work better than he'd thought it would.

"So," they said, opening the bag again and passed Tenta an egg roll, biting into the one he'd grabbed for himself. "What are you?"

Oooooooh yay more sharp teeth. The newly-named Tenta clapped with a pair of head tentacles and grinned back with... rather more needleteeth than they'd had a moment ago.

also, YAY FOOD so happy. This worked so much better than utensils.

"I'm a black hole! Well. Half. My mom's all black hole. My did is a..." Tenta concentrated and carefully recited a chain of awkwardly imitated horrible screechy noises that successfully didn't really come from anywhere in particular, "sort of thing. But I never met him. So I can't really say it very well. My mom wasn't good at saying it."

When the child--a black hold kid, ooh, how neat, that certainly explained why their face looked like it was made of a sky's worth of stars and galaxies in a way that reminded him of the way his pal in the future, Urtri, would get a face full of freckles if he spent a lot of time outside. It was adorable.

As they tried to announce their father's name, SK was put off by how incredibly... uncomfortable it sounded. It sounded stilted and strained in way that they were pretty sure a language shouldn't be.

Then again, his dad tried to teach him Undercommon, and that was an experience.

Though it had been a fun experience to find out what Skaftha was actually supposed to mean.

"I'm a half drow," they said, munching on their food. His Other Dad's status was supposed to be a secret, so he kept it hush hush from his new friend. "My Dad's name is Mz'sid So-kijak, but everyone calls him Sid because his name is dumb and hard to pronounce."

Half drow? "I've never met a drow of any amount before." They seemed super cool, though. If they were anything like SK, then Tenta would probably like them all too! "That is a long name. I don't think my mom has a name; she's just a black hole. She might have had a name as a star, I guess, but she never told me. My dad might have had a name too but. Well."

Tenta sighed a tiny bit, or at least made the motion - as far as anyone could tell, they weren't actually physiologically capable of exhaling, and then shuffled closer to SK on the bench. "Thank you for the food!" Not that it had made Tenta less hungry, but that was. Well. Eternal hunger was apparently a species trait.

SK laughed when Tenta said that they hadn't met any drow before. "Yeah, my dad says most drow don't come to Manta Carlos. They live underground in caves and eat mushrooms." Dad had also told him that drow liked to fight and kill each other, but SK didn't want to tell his new friend that.

When Tenta was a little closer, SK looked at their glittery skin, all blue an pretty. Before they could stop themselves, they were squishing at Tenta's cheeks.

"You're a cute little black hole huh."

"I don't think I've eaten a mushroom. I've seen them though! There were some in the forest when I went wandering through there. But now I'm not supposed to go there... people got mad at the holes I left in the ground when I tripped." And the trees they'd eaten. WELP, THEY WERE HUNGRY AND NO ONE SAID NO AT THE TIME.

What was this they were being squished?? Tenta blinked a few times, circles of endless darkness appearing and disappearing in their blue face, and grinned - carefully, very carefully, to keep their mouth clear of SK's hands.

"Be careful," they said, voice not at all distorted even though they only moved a tiny part of their suddenly much smaller mouth. "I don't want to eat you!" But the squishing was nice, like a hug for their face! A faint indigo-violet haze grew across their cheeks and noselike bump, and their head tentacles quivered.

"I've eaten them before. They don't taste like nothing though... except when Dad makes them, he always makes his mushrooms really spicy." SK said as he carefully rotated his hands, causing Tenta's face to distort with his hand movements. SK got the feeling that Tenta was something. Like, really something.

He'd never really seen a black hole before, except that one time when they watched a video about them in school.

And even then, they'd never really looked like Tenta, all blue and sparkly like all of space was just under their skin.

The half-drow gave their tentacles a poke to test their squishiness before holding them in his hands. "Wowie... how do you hold things?"
