Evangeline was taking a small walk around the lake. Hey, she had been working nonstop since she arrived to Manta Carlos, it’s only fair that she got a small break. This place was so full of people with troubles and the stain of sin was so big that she couldn’t understand why her superiors took so long to send anyone here.

She was starting to consider seriously asking for backup, she didn’t want to seem weak or anything, but even she knew that this situation could be bigger than her and she would prefer to get some help than failing on her mission.

She took a deep breath, sitting under the shadow of a nearby tree as she looked at the clear waters of the lake. She had to admit it though, even with the whole sin thing, this place could be beautiful and relaxing. She also liked that she didn’t had to hide her wings or halo anymore…at least most of the time, she would be a fool if she just walked in front of every demon around this place with them clearly visible. Hard enough was to stay under their radar to just make it public that there was an angel walking around Manta Carlos helping mortals.

She sighed and stretched a bit, wanting to relax for at least a couple of minutes.

He couldn't help himself.

Lochlann needed to go for a swim. He avoided water as much as he could but that was kind of impossible when he was on an island. He was caged by the very thing that kept him alive.

Today, he'd gone straight to the lake. He couldn't think about anything else. If he didn't go in the water he....he wasn't sure what would happen. Just that he needed to.

He spent most of the way underwater, relaxing in his horseshape, but as the afternoon went by Lochlann knew he had to get out before someone came in. He was starving, and, well, hungry in other ways. It was a dangerous combination.

He swam to the edge of the shore and when he broke the surface, he was human, but he was trembling.

He was also naked.

He managed to get out of the water, find his clothes and the towell in the tree he'd stored them in, and was half-dressed when he realized that he wasn't out here alone. Someone was only a few trees away, and he'd just unwillingly given them a full view of his naked body while he changed.

At least he had his pants on now.

"I am so sorry," Lochlann said, and he had the decency to be a little embarrassed. He usually had to buy someone dinner before they saw him this way. " I didn't realize anyone else was out here."

Evangeline wasn’t expecting to see a man step out of the lake…and even less a naked one. She immediately looked away, blushing a bit as she did so. She couldn’t blame anyone for this though, since for the looks of it the man knew about her presence around the lake as much as she knew about his’. They simply were in the wrong place at the wrong moment.

She waited until she heard the man’s voice to look at him again, and breathed calmly once she saw that he had his pants on.

“It’s ok, don’t worry about it. If I had known that you were swimming around here I would’ve given you some privacy” She stood up, smiling warmly at the man in front of her, like if the last minutes had never happened at all “I’m Evangeline, by the way” She extended a hand to politely greet him.

Something was telling her that this guy may need a bit of help, that raw instinct that only purifiers had. However, she knew better than just jump in and try to help anyone, since that would only scare them off, she needed to talk to them first, which wasn’t that hard. Her purifying aura usually made any mortal comfortable around her, giving them an unusual feeling of joy and calm that only her kind can give, reason why they liked to stay around her so much.

She was sure that the aura had already started to work on Loch, but he would be able to shrug it off easily if he decided to do so. After all, she couldn’t force any mortal to stay around her or allow her to help them, that was completely up to them.

“It’s ok, don’t worry about it. If I had known that you were swimming around here I would’ve given you some privacy” She stood up, smiling warmly at the man in front of her, like if the last minutes had never happened at all “I’m Evangeline, by the way” She extended a hand to politely greet him.

She was warm and friendly, so her disposition immediately won Lochlann over. He extended his hand and took hers, giving it a firm, but gentle, shake.

"My name is Lochlann," he said. "It's nice to meet you, Evangeline. And you shouldn't have to give me privacy like that--the lake is for everyone. I'm just not used to people being out at this time of day. It's so hot everyone heads for the beach instead.

Her aura was having a horribly profound effect on him. His posture had relaxed considerably, and there was less anxiety in his eyes as there was when he first walked up.

Of course, Lochlann was oblivious to the fact that it was her aura. He normally felt better around women--it was part of what made him such a dangerous predator.

The more he relaxed, the hungrier he got.

"Do you often come to the lake alone?" Lochlann asked. It was an innocent question, but part of his mind was assessing this. Does anyone know she's here? Would she be missed.

Evangeline nodded, understanding “I just wanted to relax a bit by myself, but finding someone else is always a pleasant surprise” After all, if she went to the beach she knew perfectly what would’ve happened. A lot of mortals being dragged towards her because of her aura, and consequently a lot of work. Helping one creature was easier than help ten.

She was happy to see that he was relaxing, the last thing that she wanted was to be a nuisance after all, and since he hadn’t walked away by now she felt that maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t mind to talk a bit with her, so she could find out if he really needed help and what kind.

She just chuckled with Lochlann’s question, shaking her head a bit “Nope, actually is my first time around here. I’m fairly new around here, so I still have a lot of places to explore” She was careful to avoid the part of why she was here or that her superiors sent her for fairly obvious reasons.

“What about you? You had been around here for some time by now or you’re also new?” It would be nice to know that she wasn’t the only new one around the whole islands, though if he had been living around here for a while it would be easier for them to move around the place while she helped him with whatever troubles he could have.

She was new.

She didn't know many people then. He had to juggle two ideas: was this good or bad? If she didn't know that many people here, then there'd be less people noticing her disappearance. The downside was that he'd be a suspect.

Unless no one found out.

Lochlann shook his head, trying to get a grip on his thoughts, and some of the tension snuck back in to the way he held his shoulders. He leaned against the tree for support, propping himself up with one hand.

"I've been here for almost two years now," Lochlann said, frowning a little. Christ. Two whole years. This was only supposed to be temporary. "It's honestly not that bad of a place. It just gets a little claustrophobic at times, you know? I mean, it's an island. Eventually you run out of space."

He took a glance back towards the lake and then asked, "Are you a student at the academy? Or are you working on the island?"

Evangeline noticed how Lochlann started to get tense once more, she said anything wrong? She immediately grew worried for him, placing a hand on his shoulder as he talked. She never had been stuck on a place as small as an island for that long, so it was fairly obvious that she couldn’t say that she understood him, but she could imagine it.

For her, a creature so used to be free and fly around the world helping mortals, no longer being able to come and go as she pleased would be obviously start to feel like prison sooner than later.

“Well…you can say that I work on the island” She knew that she looked young physically, but she had lived for so long that even she lost count of the years after something around her third millennium.

She held back the impulse of just hug Lochlann, knowing that doing so could be a bit too awkward and it would only serve to scare him, or at least that was what usually happened “Are you ok? I apologize if I said anything that made you feel bad, it wasn’t my intention…is there…any way in which I can help you?” Wow, she wasn’t used to ask that so quickly after meeting anyone, but she was starting to get worried for him.

It was during this times that she wished that she could intensify the effects of the purifying aura to help the ones around her to relax.

“Well…you can say that I work on the island”

Lochlann nodded. He knew better than to try and guess someone's age based on their appearance. He'd never been good at thing like age and time anyway.

She reached out and touched his shoulder and Lochlann flinched, but didn't immediately move her hand because it felt....well it felt good and that was exactly the problem.

He drank and drugged himself nearly to death because it made him weak, tired, and pliable. It was a lot harder to hurt someone when you were too busy hurting yourself.

Feeling good scared him.

“Are you ok? I apologize if I said anything that made you feel bad, it wasn’t my intention…is there…any way in which I can help you?”

"Oh, no, it's okay," Lochlann apologized. He reached up and removed her hand from his shoulder with one of his own, kissing the tips of her fingertips. "Thank you for the concern, though. You seem like a very thoughtful person."

Really, he was thinking she seemed like she'd taste delicious.

Being this close to the lake, he couldn't help himself, he asked, "Have you ever gone for a swim in the lake, Evngeline?"

Evangeline’s feathers puffed up a bit when Lochlann kissed her fingertips, but luckily she didn’t blushed with the action. She flapped her wings a bit just to get rid of any proof of what just happened. She just chuckled a bit afterwards, taking the compliment in, she really liked when other creatures felt ok by having her around past her purifying aura.

She looked at the lake for a couple of seconds without answering “Well…not this specific lake. As I told you before, this is my first time around here”.

She had taken a couple of swims on other lakes on the past, and she liked doing so, it was quite a relaxing experience most of the time…unless she was on a party or something like that, then it was really fun.

It was a bit annoying the wait for her feathers to get dry afterwards, but it has always proven to be worth it. She could tell that Lochlann felt as comfortable on the water as he did on land, and taking in consideration the island’s way to be she wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he wasn’t exactly human.

He was about to ask, How would you like to go for a swim?, when he realized what the hell he was doing.

He took a sharp breath, almost as if he was in pain, and Lochlann took a hurried step back, increasing the distance between them.

He looked up at her and his face was a mask of calm, like nothing had ever happened, even while the struggle raced on inside of her.

"Since you're new to the area, would you like to join me for a walk?" Lochlann asked. He needed to get away from the water now but he couldn't figure out how to do it without seeming rude. He could go pick up his backpack and the rest of his stuff, get something to drink, and walk her somewhere safe.
