Coatzin flapped her wings energetically as she flew around the academy’s campus. The sky was blue with only one or two stainless white clouds. She could feel the warm sun land on her rainbow feathers as well as the gentle breeze stroke her face, cold this day be any better? Uh…yeah, I have a list of things that would make this day a lot better Coatzin just growled as Mikistli’s voice echoed in her head Way to ruin the mood, Mikistli Heh, you’re welcome Coatzin rolled her eyes, she was used to Mikistli’s dark personality, she had to be by now, but it still could be quite annoying from time to time.

She allowed herself to go on free-fall towards the courtyard before opening her wings when she was about to crash with the floor, just as dare-devil as always. You couldn’t really blame her though, what’s life without a bit of excitement from time to time You are going to end up killing yourself one of these days! Coatzin just chuckled at Mikistli’s anger, since they left their continuous fights to death and became allies she had noticed that her alter-ego had become a lot more protective of her, even if she constantly denied it. She knew that she was curious and she wanted to be around her classes to be able to learn as well, but she had this feeling that this wasn’t the only reason of why she was so adamant about her carrying that hand mirror on her backpack at all times. She wanted to be constantly checking on her, make sure that she was ok.

She landed softly on the green grass of the courtyard, folding her wings and wrapping part of her tail around her waist and abdomen, just like she always did.

==> Tamara

The day was going smoothly for Tamara and it was only getting better now that her shift at the library was over and she didn't have to work in the clinic for the afternoon. That meant she could do anything she wanted!! Of course, trying to keep a cool and professional image, Tamara walked out the building like a pro: her head held high, her shoulder bag neatly hanging on her side and her handy tablet in her hands.

As she walked through the courtyard, a shadow swooped past right from right above her. Tamara wouldn't have really cared since she knew the school had flyers and as she finally recognized the shape, she just had to look up. Her breath hitched at the sight of the girl. There she was, Coatzin in her colorful plumage, the sunlight reflecting her feathers giving her that glowing silhouette of colors. By the gods...

Tamara instinctively moved to follow the girl. She knew that form very well ever since she was younger. Even though it was clear to her that the figure was more humanoid than she recalled, there was no denying that colorful feathers and serpentine tail: the Quetzalcoatl was in their midst. Tamara broke into a sprint when the realization dawned to her. Since she was young, she had wanted to be close to the deities and she might have just found her goal. Maybe her Father was right to have led her to Manta Carlos.

Tamara eventually caught up with Coatzin as the she landed on the grass, just in time as she wrapped her tail around herself. Tamara stopped a few meters from her, breathing deeply from the run, as she took in the sight of the Quetzalcoatl girl. Magnificent.

She was upset she couldn't speak but that didn't stop her from walking closer. She pulled out one of the talismans with an inscription meaning 'telepathy' her father had given her. Removing the medical mask over her mouth, Tamara placed it over her lips and whispered an incantation which soon after burned the talisman. This was going to let her speak through thought. She only had them in limited numbers that she could only use it in important situations. It just so happens that this was important.

Stopping at a few feet from Coatzin, Tamara made a polite bow. "My Lady, it is an honor to be in your presence."

Coatzin noticed the girl that was looking at her, a bit curious as she took out a talisman with weird runes on it…before it burned. Now, that was pretty cool but at the same time unexpected, why and how she burned that thing? She tilted her head with interest, feeling Mikistli invading her mind almost immediately, just as curious as her, to see through her eyes and hear through her ears, luckily she couldn’t talk through her mouth though. She had already grew used to these invasions on her mind, especially after they started to become something really common on her life.

Coatzin felt extremely awkward as the girl bowed in front of her, was this a…common greeting from where this girl was from? Should she do the same? As used as she was to this kind of stuff, she didn’t felt surprised when the girl started to talk telepathically with her, maybe a bit curious, but that’s all. For the first time, Mikistli fell silent, she now could barely feel her in her mind, obviously hesitating to say a thing. They didn’t knew if she could talk and hear thoughts, or if she only could talk, and knowing how cautious was Mikistli with this kind of unknown territory she decided to play it safe and don’t say anything until she felt that once more was stepping into the safe zone.

“I…I…uh…the honor is all mine. Also, please, call me Coatzin. I hope to not being offending you or anything, it’s just that I’m not used to this kind of formalities” She admitted, she liked meeting new people and getting all kinds of new friends, but this kind of interaction was a bit too…eh...she simply couldn’t understand it or feel comfortable around it “Also…would you mind if I ask your name?” She wanted to be able to talk her to her in a bit more casual way, probably if they knew each other’s names they would be able to do it?

She felt an odd satisfaction though, a satisfaction that she knew way too well that wasn’t hers. Mikistli liked to be talked to with this kind of awkward respect even when it was indirectly like now, something that Coatzin couldn’t fully understand, but hey, she wasn’t in the position to judge.

Tamara immediately noticed Coatzin's discomfort. Was it about the telepathic message? Or maybe she was too forward. She wasn't sure. She should probably ask--

“I…I…uh…the honor is all mine. Also, please, call me Coatzin. I hope to not being offending you or anything, it’s just that I’m not used to this kind of formalities. Also…would you mind if I ask your name?”

"That sounds much too familiar, M'Lady. But if it is what you wish, I will address you accordingly," she told Coatzin, as she lifted her body. She stood at a respectable poise, but not enough that she would look too proud in front of the deity-- er, Coatzin. Tamara noted that she might have been more used to familiar contact. That would be hard because as a priestess, she was practiced to be more respectful towards deities.

"I am named Teyam'hua, daughter of N'gi of the children of Xochiquetzal. But you may also call me Tamara. I sense your alarm about speaking through thought. You need not worry, M'Lady. I can send thoughts to you, but I am unable to read your thoughts." Maybe she should tone down the formality too.

"Please, do inform me M'Lady- ah no... Coatzin, if my behavior worries you. I will try to accommodate with your wishes." Tamara was getting a bit fidgety. It has been so long since she had contacted the gods (read:centuries) and she thinks she's lost her touch.

This wasn’t the relaxed casual talk that she asked for, but she wasn’t going to force her to do anything against her will, she had no right to do so and if the girl in front of her felt comfortable this way for whatever reason she would need to adapt and accept it. She just hoped that she stopped treating her like if she was some kind of queen or something, that felt just way too odd. Ugh, she just hoped that she could say the same about Mikistli, if her ego wasn’t big enough already, this girl was only making it bigger. She was going to be a huge headache when she started to talk in her mind once more.

Wait, children of Xochiquetzal? Her ad had told her quite a whole lot about of the ancient Mesoamerican cultures, so the name immediately rang a bell on her head, making her tail and wings rise with obvious interest. Maybe she was talking to another descendant of those who said cultures thought to be Gods, that would be just plain awesome! I like this girl, I wish more people behaved like that around us Now that she knew that the girl couldn’t hear her, Mikistli’s presence was a lot stronger on her mind and she could hear her clearly once more. Luckily Teyam'hua wouldn't be able to hear her and probably neither feel her at all, it would be even more awkward if she did.

“Chill, your behavior is ok, I swear. My previous discomfort was completely my fault, I should be used to the behavior of other’s and not being stuck to mine’s. It’s common sense that in this islands I’ll find people whose way of acting will be completely different from mines” She said cheerfully, trying to help the other girl to relax, even flapping her wings lightly and moving her tail from side to side to allow her to know that she was feeling comfortable and happy to have her around. Kinda like when a gentle human petted a playful puppy “You are really interesting though, I heard a lot of the stories of old thanks to my dad, but you’re the first one out of him that mentions Xochiquetzal or her descendants!”.

It took Tamara a while but only now did it occur to her that Coatzin was talking very casually. Too casual for their current standing, she would say, but if that was the case, maybe she should really tone down the formalities. But of course, she can't ever talk to her without the respect that was befitting a demi-god of all people. She was merely a follower, after all.

At the mention of her origins, Tamara noted the reaction Coatzin had made. Ah, she was familiar with her people! Tamara really wasn't mistaken. "Please, My L-- Coatzin," she corrected herself, "You must know that you have every right to command others to your will. You are a higher being than any of these people; you should not lower yourself too far. It is unbecoming of a being of your status!"

The shock immediately showed in Tamara's eyes. Despite the lack of expression in her face in general, her eyes spoke much. "Forgive me, I did not wish to lecture you; but don't think of yourself too lowly. Without question, it's obvious you are a child of Quetzalcoatl, the highest of them all." she said, bowing again for apology.

Tamara raised herself again; she was poised and calm, but it was obvious she was holding her head lower than she usually did, "The daughters of Xochiquetzal, unfortunately, have passed on. I am what's left of her people. I am honored to hear He has told you about us."

Coatzin was taken completely by surprise by the girl’s words. She had never thought about telling anyone else what to do, even less to actually even consider about commanding anyone around her. Actually she had a lot of trouble to even act as a leader when she was in any kind of team, reason why she usually felt a lot more comfortable as a follower, just giving advice from time to time when she felt that her team needed it.

She felt a bit bad when she noticed the troubled expression on her face though, she did anything wrong? Was she supposed to reply in some way to the words that were just handed at her or something like that? “It’s ok, you just…gave me a perspective that I had never even considered about my origins and myself” She spoke with truth, Teyam'hua apparently saw a side of herself that she had been ignoring for so darn long. But no matter how hard she tried to get used to the idea or at least feel somewhat comfortable with it she simply felt…weird and completely out of place. She saw herself as a lot of things, but a being of high status wasn’t between those.

I wouldn’t mind talking to her, I really like the way in which she’s treating us. Who knows, maybe we can even get a pet What the fu…Don’t you dare to even think about that! *Growl* You’re a huge killjoy Coatzin tried to hide her reaction from the girl in front of her, but really? Mikistli went so darn past the line now.

Coatzin tried to shake this awful aftertaste acquired by Mikistli’s awful idea as she listened to the girl, feeling a bit down with the info she gave to her “O-oh…I’m sorry, I didn’t knew…But yeah, my father told me a lot about your people, all of it really good stuff” She hugged Teyam'hua in a comforting way, she didn’t thought at all about it, she just did it.

“I’ll tell my father about you. Who knows, maybe he would want to meet you” She said cheerfully in an attempt to cheer her up. Apparently this girl had a huge fascination towards quetzalcoatls, and meeting a full one instead of a hybrid like her may be of her liking “I wish I could show you a photo or anything right now, but the only thing I have from him is this” She took the colorful medallion off her shirt and showed the gold Quetzalcoatl wrapping the color-changing gem at her “It contains a spell that would allow me to transform into a full human or a full quetzalcoatl at will. Unluckily he didn’t told me how it works and I’m still trying to figure that out”.

Tamara was more than startled from the hug but she didn't have time or the motive to oppose. Of course, well, the girl with her was the daughter of the deity, not Quetzalcoatl himself, but she might as well be his princess and still above them. Tamara literally didn't expect physical contact.

When Coatzin pulled away, Tamara was still speechless, just standing here blinking with confusion. Still, she wasn't confused enough to not hear what Coatzin had to say even further. She of course, wouldn't interrupt. That would be rude. She listened intently, watching her movements. There was a glint in her eyes when Coatzin revealed the medallion. She'd read about it: the medallion and the legend of the alter selves of Quetzalcoatl. Little did she know that she only heard one part of the story and it didn't occur to her that it applied to the descendants.

"M.. Coatzin, it would be such great honor to be in the presence of the Quetzalcoatl, much less have an audience with him, but I feel unworthy of such honor," she said solemnly. Partly because, her actions--that is, the sacrifice of her people, was done with the approval of the Dark One. While she would say that proudly, she felt small if she would face Quetzalcoatl.

Shaking the thought away, she turned to look at the medallion, Coatzin held. (She decided not to hold it.) "But Coatzin, would you be in anyway interested to know more about this medallion. That is, if you can't ask you Father of it. I know a mage with knowledge that spans millenia. It's possible he'd know how to make the spell work." She paused, "Assuming... you wish to attain full forms." The half-half wasn't so bad but she didn't have the right to say Coatzin could just stay like that, did she?

Coatzin just chuckled a bit with the girl’s words “Don’t worry about it! I’m sure that he will like you very much! He’s really nice, but maybe a bit…paranoid from time to time” She could remember how overprotective her father could be towards her, acting like if everyone was going to attack her as soon as she lowered her guard.

Coatzin immediately grew interested as soon as she mentioned the mage You think he knows how to break the Mirror Curse? Coatzin wasn’t surprised by this question, since the very first time that Mikistli talked to her in a non-threatening way she knew that her biggest wish was to break the curse that kept her trapped inside the mirror world during the day and be able to be free, travel between mirrors and the usual world without anyone or anything stopping her. Coatzin was a bit worried about this though, she knew her perfectly, and having her free could be a bit troublesome thanks to how much she loved to fight and cause chaos anywhere she went.

“I would love to meet that mage. I know that I could ask my father about the medallion, but I also have a couple of questions that I know he won’t be able to answer, or at least I highly doubt it” She never had told anything about Mikistli to him before, he was worried enough without knowing that a dark version of herself was following her everywhere through mirrors. At least now that they didn’t fought with each other, hiding it was a lot easier, as there were no wounds that would need to be hidden or explained at him “You know where I can find him?” She carefully placed the medallion back on its place, wondering how it would feel like to be a full human or quetzalcoatl instead of being only half and half.

Tamara sighed, "I do wish that is so," she said with her shoulders slumped. She'd believe Coatzin when she says Quetzalcoatl was 'nice' but she couldn't shrug off the feeling that two thousand years wouldn't be enough for a deity to forget her sacrificing and entire civilization for immortality.

Coatzin's reaction to Tamara mentioning about her father didn't go unnoticed. Of course, anyone would be interested, she thought. "I believe he may be able to answer a lot of your questions, Coatzin," she said proudly. Although, she made sure that she didn't sound superior to the girl. It actually looked more like she was endorsing a great scholar to the emperor and recommending them. Which is... what the case is exactly.

"And yes, I do know how to find him!" she replied cheerfully, completely unaware of the darker counterpart of Coatzin present in their conversation. "By around this time, he should be at the faculty office. Would you like to see him now or shall we wait for another time?"
