The police department is lead by the chief of police, Rachel Sullivan. Underneath her are several police commanders, who oversee a wide variety of detectives and officers. Because of the lack of intelligence agency, anything that could be considered an intelligence asset is rolled under the police department banner. Similarly, any crime scene investigators or analysts also work for the police in some capacity.
The police department operates primarily out of it's downtown headquarters. The majority of police work is done there, although there are other stations scattered throughout the island in order to provide faster response times.
The police department has strict regulations against any form of specism, such as hatred towards demons or vampires. Abuse of power for their own agenda is grounds for immediate termination. When dealing with criminals, it is standard for police officers to carry supernatural neutralizing devices that render criminals unable to use their abilities. It's against regulation to carry specific substances to use against criminals, such as salt or holy water.
Though uniforms are for the most part similar, there are some allowed variations in style based on departments and different stations.
