The Manta Carlos
Police Department serves as the backbone of the legal system. Due to the small size of the island, there is no official intelligence service (whether foreign or domestic), and all threats, crimes, and immigration are handled through the police. When charged, citizens will either be held in the police station until their trial (rarely more than 24 hours) or sent home and given a trial date, depending on the severity of the crime. Those charged will be represented by a lawyer, although the line between prosecution and defense tends to blur heavily.
Upon arrival on the island (or whenever the police first became aware of them), a file is made for each citizen. The file is simple, containing only the utter basics: The person's chosen name, date of birth (or approximate date of birth), and the date of their arrival on the island. In the event that a more formal police file is required, information is filled out as needed. Police files are confidential and accessible only to Law Enforcement. Files from Law Enforcement are not shared with
Starlight Academy, and may pull a student from the Academy at any given time. The Academy also sends a monthly notice from the school to the Docks Station, listing out the names of their chosen expected arrivals.
