Due to its open and diverse nature, as well as relative insulation from the geopolitics of Earth, Manta Carlos has some differing cultural ideas as compared to much of the Narrow Reality. These are broad strokes, and are not indicative of every person living on the island.
Given that many species coming to the island do not fall into conservative views of human sex and gender, gender identity and sexuality are much more fluid on the island than elsewhere. Likewise polyamory is fairly common compared to other parts of the world, and by and large the conversation around it is much more positive. Sex as a general topic is also a lot less taboo.
Likewise, names are less concrete and not used as identifiers as much on Manta Carlos. Each citizen has a serial number for identification purposes, and as such changing one's name legally is a fairly easy and straightforward process.
Religion is not exactly shunned, but practitioners are generally expected to leave the crosses and bibles at home. This is not a matter of offense, but rather one of public safety as some citizens can be actively harmed by the careless wielding of religious iconography.
Spontaneous crime is not nearly as prevalent as it is elsewhere, both because the factors that lead to such crimes (such as poverty) are less substantial issues, but also because there is no guarantee for a given criminal act that the individual in question won't be able to defend themselves or even turn the tables on their would-be attacker. Crime in general is treated more as a social issue, and there is a deliberate focus on rehabilitation wherever possible.
