Clothing was disgustingly expensive. One warm jacket and a pair of jeans that weren't more hole than fabric, from a used clothing store no less, and still more than a quarter of his new money was gone on that alone.

But he was much more comfortable, and drew fewer uncomfortable looks on the street. Adder had his money tucked carefully into two separate inner pockets of the jacket, which was completely zippered and fastened closed for now, and actually had his old jacket on underneath it. Hey, more layers meant for more warmth, and he wasn't about to throw out clothing. He'd worked hard enough to get it in the first place.

Well, lucked out. He'd found it in a dumpster.

It was his now, and he was keeping it. That was that. The train of thought put him into a bit of a sour mood, though, and when someone bumped into him on the sidewalk he turned slightly and growled, lifting his upper lip to expose his canid teeth.

The cost of living was ridiculous. He could recall the freedom he had when he'd lived in the forest. The way the earth felt beneath his bare feet, the moisture against his fingers as he'd dip them in the waters of a lake, and it was all something he missed very dearly. He thought of that place often, the one he used to sit in some time ago, before he came here. The lake reflected his image off the water and the light of the moon to his crystal-like eyes. How he stared toward the moon with an envious gaze. Admiring it's boldness from afar. Back then he was a monster or at least that was what they'd called him. A small boy, a forest spirit, whatever they identified him to be he accepted because he did not care to think about what they wanted of him.

He had never done anything wrong there nor had he here. This was the story he believed to be true, but locked away in his memories were things he did not understand entirely himself. Things the iron bars he could not touch had kept him from reaching.

He'd spent his last few dollars for the week on something sweet. Mint ice cream to be exact, but there were no chocolate chips in it. It was simply minty on it's own. The flavor's scent was clear in the air and it relaxed him in it's own way. Even if he'd yet to start eating any of it. Those crystal-like eyes of his would hold their narrowed gaze upon the path ahead of him and yet somehow they seemed to look far past the path before him. Into another realm perhaps, another life, anywhere except there. This was a habit of his, staring off into space as he was, losing himself to the illusions his mind played before him until he was forced out of those thoughts themselves.

Today that task was completed by the sudden impact he had upon another being. He'd run into someone again. It did not really surprise him that he had, he was often running into things, and people for that matter. However, what did surprise him was the growl he got. He turned slightly, almost instinctively, his lips parted with a single curious word. "Puppy?" his voice chimed out like a single pluck of a harps cord. Radiating it's sound in an almost ghostly fashion. "Ah. You are not puppy. I have made a mistake. " He leaned toward the figure, still holding that ice cream despite his form having been jolted by their path's crossing, and he drew his gaze close to the other male's face.

The bones that dangled from ribbons upon his bound-up hair would fall forward over his shoulders with this movement. Just a few inches taller than this person, but hardly much larger otherwise. "Are you going to bite me?" he wondered then over the exposed teeth.

The nature of Adder's annoyance shifted when the stranger spoke. Now he was irritated by the mistake - and the correction, just because - as well as by being bumped into.

The suspended bones caught his gaze for a moment, yellow eyes tracking their movement. Aesthetic or warning? Well, it didn't take much to take out something with bones that size. Adder shifted his focus back to the stranger's face, finding and holding a hard, aggressive eye contact.

"Do I look like a damn dog to you?" he growled, eyes and ears and teeth and body language all screaming canine in their own ways. He was not, however, a puppy, and he was also not a domestic mutt. His parents might have died when he was young but he still knew what he was.

"Stay out of my face and I won't have to bite you."

Pale eyes focused their icy gaze upon the annoyed figure before him. The gold orbs that followed him made him almost tempted to float himself around to try to see just how closely this man would watch him. Though he couldn't tell by that alone just how aggressive this other man was.

Pryderi didn't seem to care that they were standing there awkwardly staring at one another. Nor did he seem to mind the aggressive way the other male held his eye contact. Eye contact was good in his opinion. It showed a certain amount of confidence or maybe just pride.

The question asked of him earned an audible hum of 'hmm' from the pale one. Leaning a little closer at that question in a manner to better inspect the stranger's facial features. "Not a dog, but you do have a feral look about you. It's refreshing." he stated in his wispy toned voice. It wasn't until the threat of biting was thrown into the air that his pale features truly lit up. "Do you promise you'll bite?" he questioned with a bit of a thrilled sound to his wispy voice.

The pale stranger didn't show any discomfort or back down at all, and while that made Adder even more irritated it also made him wary. Confidence did sometimes correlate with power, after all, and Adder was very aware that there were some big fish in this city.

...

or maybe this guy was just a masochist. Adder leaned back, eyebrows rising at the thrilled expression. "Go find a vampire if you're looking for pleasure," he said flatly. His ears twitched and settled flat against his head.

The irritation the other male seemed to be displaying before him was quite amusing to the pale one. He couldn't help it really. Pryderi enjoyed being able to effect people's emotions that way. Even if it was annoyance he got on response. It was always entertaining to see how different people reacted to different things. The way Adder leaned back away from him had him wondering what was going on in his head really. If only he had some sort of telepathy, but alas he did not.

Instead he was gifted with other abilities and as the sounds beyond them would start to fade out. A laugh would escape his lips, "Who said it was pleasure I was seeking? Is that how you assume all strangers?" he wondered then placing a hand upon his own cheek. "My oh my, There are plenty of reasons to get excited over the talk of biting. A bite has a lot of cultural meaning you know." He mused. With Adder leaning away from him he would step closer, giving him a grin, "Maybe I should bite you instead for trying to threaten me. " He suggested as his hand raised. Though instead of reaching to touch the other male, as it may have first seemed like he was going to, he extended his hand in greeting. "How about a proper introduction instead, if you are so opposed to following through with your threat, Puppy." he suggested.

This guy was so weird. Possibly mentally unstable rather than simply perverted. "The thought and talk of biting excites you. Clearly you derive some pleasure from it," Adder growled, the little hairs on the back of his neck on edge, rippling like raised angry hackles.

He sidestepped rather than backing up further as the weird stranger moved closer and then raised a hand. He wasn't concerned about being struck, per se, but with someone so weird skin contact was far better avoided than allowed.

Adder pointedly acknowledged the extended hand and then largely ignored it. His own hands slid partway into his jean pockets. "It's Adder, not Puppy." And the joke was on the weirdo if he thought he could gain any magical power by invoking or claiming the name; Adder knew full well that it wasn't his birthname and certainly didn't bind his soul.
