Yang Ji Hye

Ji Hye let the man lead her over to bench that she hadn't seen, careful not to walk through any of the spirits in sight. The pupils in Yeoleot's eyes followed them as they sat down and as she fidgeted nervously, the entire spirit began to slide toward them. It spread itself out as a crescent around their feet.

It blinked as if in judgment.

"I'm Lysander."

Ji Hye looked at the man, startled from her nerve-wracking staring contest with the mokumokuren. He held out a hand, which she took hesitantly, letting go after only a momentary brush of their fingers.

"Are you feeling better?" Lysander asked her. "You seem" -there was a pause and Ji Hye strained, not sure if he was being drowned out or not -"red."

That's the best color! Mengyan manifested itself on the bench in the space between them and Ji Hye shrank back. It turned its head at her. You, though, are a disgrace to it, it said, poking at her cheek. Everybody looks good in red, so that takes some serious fail skill!

That only made Ji Hye blush harder. "I- uh, it's just-" There really was no good way to explain it, was there? "It's just me!" Which made no sense whatsoever in this contest.

The idiocy of the statement sent Mengyan into a cackling fit. Xunhuan, who had taken residency at their feet, snarled as one of its flailing limbs struck it on the ear. Viciously, the bulgasari bit into the offending part and yanked the akaname off.

Hey, you stupid -thing! Let go!

Behind them Leolkeo hungrily devoured the wiggling cocoons on its web, its now human head holding a fierce expression of glee as Kyoushi Sama watched on, yawning. Aoi no Ue curled up against the side of the bench, propping up its body in such a way that it looked like a queen on her throne.

Peasant, kindly refrain from looking like prey, the nure onna ordered her. Your coloring makes me thirstier.

There was nothing that she could say to that while Lysander was sitting right next to her, so Ji Hye settled instead for sitting there awkwardly, watching Xunhuan and Mengyan wrestle on the ground before them. Yeoleot's eyes had parted hastily to avoid the fight.

And then, all of a sudden, Shourou towered over them. YES, THERE IT IS AGAIN. WHERE IS THAT HOLYMAN? HE CANNOT HIDE FROM ME FOREVER.

Just a beat behind it, Lysander burst out, "That her being afraid has nothing to with me, yeah, I know. Will you shut up now?"

Ji Hye stared at him, frozen. Then, she was glancing around, frantically trying to see if there was anybody else around that he could have been speaking to. There wasn't. You're not the only one, Lysander had said.

Oh.

What was that feeling that she felt now? It seemed to hover around hope and relief.

Eh? What's with him? Mengyan looked up from the scuffle on the ground.

THE OUTBURST IS INDEED SUSPICIOUS, Shourou said. I SUGGEST THAT WE EAT HIM.

Ji Hye squeezed her eyes shut. I'm not alone, she thought. Her heart was doing hiccups and she couldn't do a thing about it. She didn't cry again, though.

"I'm Yang Ji Hye," she found herself saying. It made sense, at least, which was a positive. But then the enormity of everything was starting to really build up. Feeling a little like hyperventilating, the next thing she said was maybe not so appropriate.

"Shourou wants to eat you. You wouldn't happen to have a priest in your head, would you?"

I'm so stupid...

Well, that just made things a whole lot easier. Lysander thought as he opened his mouth to speak.

I told you they can feel us. Corrolis turned (so to speak) to Lyre and glared at him (again, metaphorically speaking) darkly.

Lyre huffed, rolling his eyes (or at least that's what it felt like to Lysander; sometimes he thought it would just be a whole lot easier if he could actually see them rather than just feel or imagine their reactions; then he would imagine how awkward that would make going to the bathroom and cringe).

I didn't say they couldn't, priest. he said bitterly, and Lysander can feel him looking through his eyes at something...he probably couldn't see. And for a moment, as he does that, the young man thinks that he has gone even madder than before, for around Yang Ji Hye, as she had introduced herself, he can see...what a really bad nightmare could be.

I just said they couldn't hurt us in here... he whispered, and Lysander prayed that somebody would hit him on the head he didn't have, even if it caused him headache. Second later, Magena did just that.

Ouch. Lysander winces, feeling the back of his head throb as if he was the one being hit, before he turns his eyes back to Yang JI Hye. He had not, in the end, answered her question yet.

Uh, actually, I do. he say, feeling Corrolis broad in the back of his mind. And he's not the only one, as well. But, could you, uh, inform Shourou that I'm probably not all that tasty, please? I really don't want to be eaten over some ancient priest feud.

Somewhere around what Lysander imagines to be his midbrain, Garrick snorts.

What, do you have something to say as well? he bits at him, mad.

No, not really. You've already said it all.

And aren't multiple personalities fun xD I swear I laughed a bit at some point during this thread and it isn't all that long xD I hope you don't mind that I made Lysander able to see the demons for a bit. Maybe it can specifically be a part of Lyre's power since that one is still vaguely undefined.

Oh, that's fine! It actually more or less works out perfectly. And I'm glad this thread is working for you. =D

Yang Ji Hye

I BEG TO DIFFER, Shourou said, bones rattling ominously as Lysander made his comment about not being tasty. THERE ARE FEW UNAPPETIZING FLESHBAGS IN THIS WORLD. DIVINE PRESENCE OR NO, I WOULD NOT CONSIDER THIS PREY TO BE AMONG THOSE FEW.

Ji Hye shuffled nervously, edging vaguely in a direction to -what? Either protect Lysander or get away from the gashadokuro, it was hard to say.

tasty tasty! Leolkeo said in agreement from where it lay idly on its web, having finished devouring the lesser spirits. eat eat eat flesh tasty yes! priest bad flesh good flesh good good!

"What, do you have something to say as well?" Lysander bit out suddenly, the tone causing Ji Hye to jerk and wonder if she had done something wrong. But then she saw that he didn't seem to be speaking to her at all.

Ah, so this is what it's like when people see me! Ji Hye realized. She could now why it could be disturbing. But, the way that Lysander spoke to his spirits. It seemed like he was so in control of them. I could only ever do that with the lesser ones, maybe, she thought. Only if the others weren't around. And maybe with Imouto and Oppa. She owed so much to Oppa, though, that she probably wouldn't be able to do it anyways.

He's nice! Imouto plopped back onto the plane, reappearing in the empty spot on the bench that Mengyan had previously occupied. Unconsciously, Ji Hye drew closer to it so it could brush against her arm. She only made a slight, soft sound of agreement.

I should be saying something, Ji Hye thought as she looked at Lysander, quietly almost pleading for him to keep the conversation running. He's been nice enough to put up with me this far. Oh, what if I'm just bothering him?

"Do they talk a lot to you?" she asked, feeling like it was kind of a pathetic question. Inwardly, though, she wanted to ask, Can you make them be quiet? Can you show me how to do that? But she was too afraid of Shourou and the others to ask it in their presence. So, forever. "Mine can go on for a while."

And in the background, she could hear the sounds of the tsukumogami speaking excitedly, buzzing loudly. She touched her free hand to her ear, wincing as the spirits laughed and shouted at something.

Hm, yeah, I think I'm gonna do just that, considering Lyre's power is vacant anway. He's not exactly going to have Dark Sight or anything like Yang Ji Hye, but since he's supposed to be some kind of bird or something, maybe he can be a descendant of some mythical creature or something and thus able to see them? That way Lysander can occasionally see them as well :D

The initial nervousness slowly draining away from his shoulders, Lysander scoffed, his eyes rolling up as if he was trying to look inside his own head. The question is, my friend, do they ever shut up. he says, knowing very well that it was, without a doubt, going to start an argument. And just as he thought, they began yelling immediately, at him, at each other, at themselves, everything, nothing. Instead of getting angry himself though, he sighed, taking a deep breath immediately afterwards, and tried to push them away.

I'm getting a bit better at ignoring them though... he dared say, just as the gut wrenching pain ran straight through his head. Actually, it seems that you'll have to scratch that., he said, waiting a moment or two before he dared open his eyes again, breathing deeply. I'll never get used to the pain. he muses as Kisha's soothing healing alleviates some of the pain.

Uh, how about you? he asked then, feeling a bit awkward. He had, in the end, never done this before, right? I mean you have said they talk to you a lot but... How many are there? How long do you have them? Why?......Do you know how to get rid of them?

That last though causes the heavy weight of guilt to suddenly press on his shoulders, and he doesn't know why. Any sane person would like to get rid of them already, right? Still, he feels guilty, incredibly so, and lowers his head in shame.

Shhh, it'll be alright, little one. Kisha whispered to him, and in his mind, he can see her petting his hair, as others bicker in the background. It is a really strange sight.

Oh, don't worry. It's all fine. You might want to go with a phoenix, since it exists both in western and eastern mythology.

Yang Ji Hye

"The question is, my friend, do they ever shut up," Lysander said, and Ji Hye was surprised to find the corner of her lips shakily quirking a little upwards. It flattened right back out soon enough.

HIS INSOLENCE IS AMUSING, Shourou said. HOWEVER, THE PRESENCE OF THE LESSER PREY IN HIS SKULL SHOULD NOT BE ENOUGH TO SAVE HIM FROM PHYSICAL HARM.

"I'm getting a bit better at ignoring them though," Lysander started, trailing off. He closed his eyes for a few moments. "Actually, it seems that you'll have to scratch that. I'll never get used to the pain."

Ji Hye watched on sympathetically but still felt as if she were intruding on something. Do they read all of his thoughts, then? she wondered worriedly. It was a frightening idea to consider, since her mind was the only place Ji Hye had privacy in anymore.

I suspect that the peasant will once again deny your request, for whatever reason, Aoi no Ue deadpanned. It turned to Ji Hye. Perhaps the peasant boy will be willing to offer up his blood. Its tongue flickered out briefly. Or, more preferably, simply take it from him. The healer, if it is competent, will prevent him from bleeding out, after all.

"Uh, how about you?" Lysander asked, after it looked as if he had gotten his own spirits under control. His expression was unsure. "I mean you have said they talk to you a lot but..."

"Ah." Ji Hye looked down her her hands. "There, there isn't really much use in trying to ignore them," she said about her own spirits, shifting anxiously at the movement in the corner of her sight. "It doesn't hurt, though. They, they aren't really in my head. I guess that's why. They're just...around."

useless useless talk! Leolkeo was crawling on the ceiling above them now, Ji Hye guessed. She could hear the sneer in its voice. kill kill kill eat yes!

There were so many things she could say. Do I gloss over them? Do I just spill everything? She could feel her heart starting to hammer against her ribs. But she wanted so badly just to be able to tell somebody for once, somebody who could understand it. Not just somebody who could only theorize about it. Wouldn't that be nice?

This place one of the cleanest, most boring places I've ever been to, Mengyan complained. Let's mess it up! But you'd probably fail at that, huh?

She sighed. "The tsukumogami usually stay on the plane," Ji Hye said, keeping her voice quiet enough so that she wouldn't be able to hear it over the spirits around her. Somehow, it gave her more confidence. A small amount, at least. "They're the background noise. I don't hear much at times." She made a sound that could have been a nervous laugh or a choke. "Like now. Maybe. Those are just the lesser ones but there's enough of them that they're always talking. It's my own fault, really. I wasn't ever good with keeping my power under check. It just kept leaking out..."

I'm the same. he said, looking at her from the side. Didn't know what I was doing when I summoned them back. That's why they ended up in my head.

Somehow, there was silence is his head as he talked now. Maybe, if he dared hope that they cared about what he thought, he would say that they were listening as to hear what he was saying.

I didn't believe it at first. he said, turning his head towards the sky as he ran his fingers through his hair. And it was mighty awkward... But, I got used to ti. Mostly... Somehow. In a way... Okay, not really, but I don't have any other choice, right? he laughed a bit, rolling his eyes at something somebody said.

Then, he blinked. Huh? he turned towards her, confused. Tsukumogami? he doesn't know what that is, but it definitely doesn't' sound human.

It's a spirit. Somehow, he had expected Corrolis to step forward again, being the priest and all, but for some reason, it's Lyre's presence that's the strongest in his mind right now. And it is definitely not human.

Again, he can feel Lyre take over his eyes as he peers at the girl, making him see strange clouds and dark spots.

Stop that! he barked, closing his eyes. His eyes stung like he had spent too much time looking under the water, and he couldn't keep them open. What the hell, Lyre?! he said, rubbing them.

You're right, phoenix work :D

Yang Ji Hye

Do you think there are people here who can chain lightning things to themselves? Xunhuan wondered. You know, the lightning creatures that live in those light boxes people have around.

Television! Imouto chipped up.

Ji Hye strained to hear Lysander's words over their voices. "I got used to it," he was saying. "Mostly... Somehow. In a way... Okay, not really, but I don't have any other choice, right?" He stopped for a moment and seemed to be listening to one of his spirits talking to him.

Now wouldn't that be a stupid thing? Kyoushi Sama began to viciously wash its paws. I wouldn't be surprised, though. It seems like the type of person this place would actively go looking for.

She made a gesture kind of crossed between a shrug and a nervous nod, trying to answer both conversations at the same time. Yes, the girl thought despondently, there just isn't a choice, I know. Why does this even happen? And also, she meant to convey, I think I like this place, I think that I would be okay if there was. I think it would okay. I really do. If only that meant something. Why am I always so helpless?

Some people just aren't meant to be strong. Now had that thought actually come from her? Or had somebody else told her that? There were just too many people around her to be able to know for sure. One, two, six, twelve, a hundred. More. And then Lysander and however many people he carried with him. Sometimes it seemed like Ji Hye was lost out in that sea of personalities because she really had so little of her own.

"Tsukumogami?" Lysander sounded confused, his voice sounding small under the weight of the other conversations going on above it. All of a sudden, he squeezed his eyes shut. "Stop that! What the hell, Lyre?!"

Spirits, not me, Ji Hye was quick to remind herself. I haven't done anything wrong, he isn't talking to me. And why did she feel as if another presence had entered the space? One of Lysander's? she wondered. But she hadn't felt any of them so far.

Imouto perked up on the bench next to her. Oh! it said, sounding surprised. Oh, I can't remember what that is. It stared out at the wall, its head tilted to the head as if in thought.

Ji Hye looked around to see if anybody else had noticed. But the presence had been very faint and the other spirits seemed engrossed in their own doings. There might have been a lapse in the background noise of the tsukumogami but she couldn't be sure.

"Um, Ly-Lysander?" She asked, "What kind of spirits are you bound to, exactly? We don't have the same kinds, it seems like. Um." Are they nice to you, at least? Oppa-nice or Imouto-nice. Hitori-kind of nice, even. Are there many of them?

If the presence of the priest was any indication, they were probably human or partially human. Ji Hye often wondered if that would have ever made a difference with her, to have actual people bound to her instead of these... Lesser nature spirits? Demons? Household spirits? The categories seemed so neat when they remained only in her mind.

Sighing, Lysander leaned back onto the wall and closed his eyes. The sting with which Lyre's powers left him wasn't going away no matter how much he rubbed them, so he might as well just leave them alone. Then, Ji Hye's question came.

They are mostly human. he said, his eyes still closed, thus making it easier for him to feel their presence, and see them, in a way. Similar to you and me. They all have powers. tilting his head to the side, even though his eyes were closed, he smiled. I think you felt Kisha's earlier. When she was trying to heal you? Saying that made him wonder why Kisha wasn't helping him now. Usually, he didn't even have to ask; the pain would be gone before he could even say thanks. Frowning, he opened his mouth to ask, but something stopped him. It was just a feeling, but it came from deep inside of him, telling him to be quiet... and not to stop talking at the same time.

Thus, he did just that.

There is six of them. he said, sighing, and trying to find the more comfortable spot of the wall, which was, in all honestly, impossible.

Magena is my twin sister. She died in an accident during my senior year. I was... really messed up after that. Like, completely. I almost kill this one guy... But, well, you don't have to hear about that. Anyway, apparently, I also have a natural power to see the dead, and summon them. A Necromancer, if you will. That plus this, and bam, one night in my sophomore year I open the portal towards the world of the dead and get stuck with a bunch of noisy people. he snickers, feeling their irritation. Shut up, guys, you are annoying and you know it. he huffs at them before he continues talking.

Sorry about that. Anyhow, besides Magena, there is Garrick, Rayburn, Lyre, Corrolis and Kisha. Kisha's the only normal one, I daresay. He has healing powers and usually helps me when the others give me a headache so strong I can't see straight anymore. he laughs, and rubs his eyes a bit again. It feels like the sting is going away.

Garrick is a pain in the neck. he says, and the werewolf growls. He's loud, and a werewolf, so he keeps insisting I eat people, which is really ironic, considering he won't let me come anywhere near his powers. Most of them won't. But, don't worry, I'm not eating anybody anytime soon. he rolled his eyes behind his lids at the onslaught of courses Garrick sent his way at that. Rayburn is calmer, but is always hungry. They are also both tribesman so they keep insisting I should be killing bears with my bare hands or something. Really annoying sometimes. Another onslaught of courses from Garrick and a quiet disagreement for Rayburn. Corrolis is a priest, and can see the future, but he doesn't want to let me have visions, so he usually keeps back. He only gives me headaches now and then, when he stops a particular strong vision. In all honesty, I have a feeling they are all about my future tests, which really sucks, I could use some help now and then. In his head, absolute silence. Strange, he thinks, but keeps talking. And then there is Lyre. I'm not sure what Lyre is right now. He usually just keeps back and occupies half of my brain with his music, but right now, he did something strange to my eyes... and... huh...

Open them. Lysander hears Lyre's whisper, and freezes in the middle of the sentence. Did you not hear me idiot? Open them!

Yeah, yeah, stop irritating me, I was going to do it anyway... Lysander says, huffing again, before he blinks. His eyes take a second to adapt, but then he turns towards Ji Hye and...

Wow, what the hell did you do to my eyes, Lyre?!

He can see everything.

Yang Ji Hye

Six, Ji Hye thought to herself in shock. It was the highest amount of spirits she had ever heard of being bound to another person. And they're in his mind? She imagined it like a nightmare at first but then she remembered that not all the spirits in the world were like the ones she had. And well. At least in nightmares it was possible to wake up and realize that it wasn't real.

Listening to Lysander speak about his spirits, she found that her suspicions were correct. Dead spirits, actual people. Not the supernatural ones. The feeling of actually being right for once was so strange. For the most part, however, it was smothered by a startling strong wave of relief. I'm glad that it's not quite the same, Ji Hye thought about their powers. Lysander seemed nice. It would have been horrible if he had to deal with Shourou and Leolkeo. Talag, when it showed up.

The thought of that last spirit stopped her cold. What will it do when it finds out about him? The news would get back to it eventually, she knew. Nobody particularly liked Talag, not even something quite as civil as toleration, but sometimes the tsukumogami couldn't help themselves. There was so little to do chained to a plain person like herself. Gossip was really their only form of entertainment. Oh my God, Lysander. Talag couldn't do anything to him right now but maybe later, some time in the future...

Lysander stopped talking for a moment and even though Ji Hye wanted to say something like I'm sorry about your sister, she just couldn't. It might not have been appropriate. He might not have wanted. She had no idea what he thought of having his dead twin's spirit in his head her to say anything. She did know, though, that she personally might have been happy if that had happened to her with her parents. Is that a blessing or not? She supposed that it depended on the circumstances.

All of a sudden, Lysander's eyes opened. Ji Hye shifted uncertainly as he faced her, feeling again that unknown presence wedging itself into the space. This time, however, it didn't entirely leave. "Wow, what the hell did you do to my eyes, Lyre?!" His eyes were a little wide and looking at the space around her.

"Eh?"

Lysander looked in shock as the things around Yang Ji Hye moved.

Are...Are they... he spoke, eyes wide and breathing heavy, his shoulder moulding into the wall behind him as if he was trying to run away.

Spirits, mostly, yes. Lyre said, his voice unusually calm, and, for a moment, Lysander could see him, really see him, standing next to him, back straight, shoulders relaxed, in a posture he would never expect to see in a poet. Then, his head turned, as he smirked at Lysander with more arrogance than a king could have, and faded away. Turning his head back, Lysander felt a thousand times more relaxed.

There was a.... giant skeleton standing above them, the top of his head lost somewhere in the high air, and somehow, Lysander knew that that was the one that wanted to eat him. Around them, at least a dozen other things moved as well. A spider... or at least something that looked like a spider. A woman... with the snake's body...or was it a snake with a woman's head? Something that looked like a cat... and...

Wow, that thing has a lot of eyes. he said, blinking, and rubbing his eyes, just to make sure that he hasn't gone crazy while his eyes were closed.

For Heaven's sake, how stupid can you be, idiot? Lyre huffed, gritting his teeth. Lysander winced, the sound sharp in his ears. You have not gone any crazier than you were before. he said, and Lysander had to roll his eyes at that.

I have simply lend you my power, for a time. he continued, making Lysander frown in surprise.

Did you not say some time ago, and very clearly at that, that I will never even know what your power is, let alone come anywhere near it? he said, smiling a bit as he remembered first out of many Lyre's violent outbursts.

I can take it away any second, you know. the poet said harshly, bearing his teeth. Somehow, Lysander had a feeling he had rustled his metaphorical feathers. I simply thought that if one of these things was going to eat you anyway, you might as well see them when they do.

Jee, thanks a lot, feathers. he said, rolling his eyes at that, as he tried to examine some of the newly seen spirits more closely. Now that he had calmed down (and how weird was that Lyre managed that?) they didn't seem so scary as they did before.

Feathers? he could feel bitterness dripping from his voice.

Yeah, feathers, because you remind me of a bird with ruffled feathers. he said offhandedly, still looking at the space surrounding the girl.

Are you sure he is as much of a idiot as we thought, Lyre? Magena says, snickering, and Lyre's presence fades away, leaving the feeling of being insulted behind. His magic sight, however, stays.

So, this is how your spirits look like, huh? Lysander says, finally returning his attention to Yang Ji Hye.

I hope I got the spirit's positions and number right. I looked at her profile, first post and the last post they were mentioned at just to make sure I didn't forget anything xD
