The man paused in the midst of his attempt to stone the ocean to death. "I dunno," he said. "No offense or anything but you're a lady and rules say that when things are dangerous, I gotta be the one to bite it first." But Luke started to nod very sagely, "That's the rules, you know, even if you're a water person and got the whole sea right here in front of you to crash down on people, mhm."

She did have a point, though. What they needed was bait. But using girls was really rude, Luke thought. Well, maybe that was the wrong word for it. Maybe things were different as long as she stayed safe. Maybe then, she was just doing stuff like normal.

"Well, maybe if I come with you, that'll be fine," he said. "You just gotta stay safe, okay?" Eyeing the water suspiciously, he inched back into the ocean.

Thankful that he agreed for once with her words, she gave a short sigh of relief. "Don't worry about my safety, I have that down." Claire winked back at Luke, hoping that he wouldn't freak out over her going on first. It was just water, even though many people were terrified of it.

Yes, it was a bit weird to think that anything could be swimming around, getting ready to attack them at any point, but she wasn't alone. Even if Luke wasn't here, she had powers that would make it very hard for any water breathing animal to get to her. All Claire had to do was move the water around the fishie and it would go flying the other way.

As as she got deeper into the water, almost chest height, she was a bit worried that there would be a sudden drop and she would fall into the water. Steadying herself, she looked back at the man to see how he was doing. "You all good?" She asked in a vague tone as she then looked to the dark mass. She wanted to pop her head under, to see what on earth could cause such an evil... Odour. Holding her nose, she breathed in through her mouth as she caught a sniff of it. "What is that?" She couldn't pinpoint what the odd scent was, but she just hoped that she wouldn't find something dead.

Oh, boy, something did smell pretty rotten around here! To be honest, if Luke wasn't fired up before, he sure was now. After all, vultures were scavengers and if this fishie was a dead one, then that made it prey.

"Smells like death!" Luke remarked, not really bothering to hide the cheer in his voice. "Never can get enough of that sort of whiff around here, mhm." He considered asking her, if it were really dead, if she would mind him taking a bite or two out of it. Ya know. Just to be sure. But maybe as a water person, she'd find it really rude to eat a fishie in front of her. It was kind of like eating a little bambie in front of its mother.

"Er, what do you think that is? Seems like it's in your field."

As she sniffed strongly, putting her nose to the water, hoping that she could figure out what the smell was. He was right, it smelt like dead, as if the big mass that was a haziness in the water, was perhaps dead. "I don't know exactly what it is." She turned her head back to look at him and bit her lip, wondering as to what she should do. "I'll check it." She snapped her head back and nodded to herself, taking a deep breath in before jumping out a bit further and submerging herself in her element. At times like these, she wished that her powers came with goggles, so that she wouldn't have to suffer the slight pain that opening her eyes would cost. She should just keep a pair around her neck so that her powers and her love of water would not be hindered. As she opened her eyes, her body reached before her mind did. As Claire moved back, she wasn't sure whether to swim as fast as she could out of the water, or go up and touch it. Luke's assumption had been right, it was the smell of dead.

Though she couldn't make out exactly what was dead, she knew that it was, from the color and lack of movement that it was giving off. As she eyes started to get blurry, she blinked trice to ensure that she could get a good look to be able to tell Luke. It was for sure dead, thought she wouldn't be able to tell him what it was. That was really all she could make out of it without having to get too close. Even being a few meters from it made her want to get out of the water and wash off a few times. It gave off a creep feeling as she waded there in the water. Swimming up, she took a big breath before quickly swimming back, using her powers to propel her towards the beach. "A dead thing." She made out as she took another breath, whipping her hair around so that it could dry off a bit in the wind. As she planted her feet into the sand, she sighed in relief to be out of the water, which was a first for her.

"Ha! Knew it all along!" Luke said triumphantly, despite the fact that he had only thought of it a few moments earlier. "So, it's a fishie, then? Or do you think it'd be the last guy who tried to find the mermaids?" It was some sort of a warning, most likely, or maybe it was a sign that mermaids had a trap out there, waiting for him.

Thinking about it, he smacked himself on the head. "They planned this!" He began to rant out loud. "First they tempt some poor sap in and drown him dead as a test round, then, then they get me to this shore and send the fishies as their watchdogs. They probably were counting on me staying here and waiting and waiting until I got too tired to stay awake. Then, when the going was good, they'd rise out of the water and drag me in!"

It was a good plan, a great plan. How had he not seen it before? "Well, I'm not falling for their tricks," Luke declared, slapping himself on the chest in determination. "I'll just leave and see what they think of that! There's nothing those fish can do to me on land!"

She wasn't surprised when he went off on his own little side story. She stood beside him, shaking her wetness off from the expedition. Claire listened, waited, pondered his points. At some parts, she felt as if the sometimes absent minded man was right. It did seem like the fishes had planned something out, but not what he thought. It was rare to see such a big, whatever, washed up like it was.

"You're totally right." She was in no mood to argue with him on of it was logical or not. "That's also why the fishes stopped talking to me, in order to keep me silent and let you, the master fish planner finder, figure it out!" She shouted, wanting to play along on his schemes of foolishness. Her words made her giggle softly, she covered her mouth while doing so.

"If you're so determined to fool them then, let's go." She moved away from her love, tapping her feet together to get rid of any access water before she moved her arms in a circular motion and got rid of all the water on her. Placing it back into the ocean, she kept her hands up for him. "Do you want me to dry you off, or are you planning on flying away and leaving me?"

And there it was! Complete and utter confirmation of his ideas! Luke felt awfully proud of himself right then for getting it right. The water person was pretty smart herself, though. She knew how tricky the fish were and came right out to him about their plans because she knew they couldn't ever be trusted. The man did have to stop and consider, though, exactly what their exit strategy would be.

"Nah, we definitely can't be seen leaving together," Luke said in seriousness, "because then the fishies would know you're helping me and then they'd get you later. No, what we need now is a -an act! A real staged war right here, right now! You can splash me around and stuff and I can act really scared and fly right off. Those fishies wouldn't suspect a thing!"

He leaned back on his heels for a few moments, trying to figure out the perfect opening for her. He shook his head seconds after. "Just give me a few good ball-o-waters to the face and I'll be right off!"

His plan would work well, or at least she wanted to think that. Yes, she was doing this for Luke, as she knew that this was all fake. He was out of the ordinary, someone that shocked her so having fun with him was something she started to enjoy. "You got it!" She nodded to his master plan. A fake fight sounded as good as anything, she that was exactly what she was gong to do.

She took a step into the water, wanting to feel the water move as she pulled it. She placed her arms behind her, almost grabbing the water. "You! You have betrayed me!" She sounded out nonsense to Luke, wanting her act to be more believable. "Now, I will hit you with my powers, leaving you defenseless!" She charged up to him with her ball of water, throwing it dramatically towards his face. It hit him as if his face did a belly flop into the oncoming water, as it went in all directions around his face.
