The Deep One

Admittedly, Cross was aware that they weren't given enough information to deal with this ...Well, whatever the deep one was. To him, it sounded like some ancient being and it had to be strong enough to make these shark-people nervous. The moment the shark people took off at the hearsay of the Deep One, it only confirmed his suspicion. Lelei further solidified Cross' guess about the monster. Apparently it wasn't a good idea to fuck around with this thing, but why would it suddenly wake up after all these years?

He took in the sights as they swam along and the key thing that caught his attention was the humanoid face in the arch. He grunted. It reminded him of a certain creature in Lovecraft-Lore that Susan forced him to read a long time ago. There were no regrets there. The stories were amazing and terrifying at the same time. Those books were pretty much the only thing he had ever read. Then it dawned on him; this felt like one of those adventures and it only made him excited to see what was next. This thing was powerful enough to scare the head of security at the Academy. Surely it was one hell of a challenge. Cross felt himself smirking. "Fine by me I like helping. Don't mind smelling like fish either...But what're we gonna do? We gonna kill it???" he sounded a bit too eager there but it couldn't be helped. He was a wolf by nature and even though seafood wasn't a normal thing he ate, he didn't mind trying new things. Especially squiddy-beard things.

Morgan played close attention to everything their shark man guide had to say while she swam fairly close to her teacher Berlin, she was the only person in the group Morgan knew so she felt the most comfortable near her. She was very impressed by the arch they swam under, especially the large humanoid statue with the tentacle face, she could swore that she had read about something similar to that somewhere though she couldn't remember. Morgan was very curious as to what 'the deep one' looked like "Before we fight this thing, what does it look like? Just so that we can prepare." she said, though she wasn't entirely sure how speaking underwater worked even with the inclusion of the amphibellies.

There was something suspicious occurring around Manta Carlos, Berlin noted. First, there was that berserk dinosaurshifter in the summer, and now there was some sort of ancient ancestor to kamohoalii sapiens sapiens threatening to wreak havoc. Were these things occurring in tandem or independently of each other? Mysteries might have been a large part of her job but Berlin still despised them. This one in particular, there was no simple way to go about solving it.

And if I take too long investigating it, it will simply happen again, no doubt. That was a thought which irritated both her pride and mathematical sense of organization. Disrupting order in a place that she was personally responsible for was simply unforgivable and not to mention, messy.

"It it poses that much of a danger, I believe that it would be best to simply eliminate it, yes," Berlin said, in reluctant support of the enthusiastic student. At the very least, such blood knights could be depended on for martial competency. But not usually much else. She hoped, too, that this Deep One would not be spared by something as foolish as sentiment from A'amakualenalena's people.

Frowning, she said, "Do you sincerely believe that our group could accomplish this task? If the situation is so serious, perhaps it would be better to inform the Headmistress."

"We need to put the Deep One to rest, one way or another..."

There was a hint of doubt or hesitancy in Lelei's reply. Not as if he was not sure they could calm the Deep One, but as if he was not confident in the methods involved. There was even a slightly regretful look in his eyes as he peered over his shoulders to check on everyone, looking at each person individually, before facing forward again. He picked up some speed as he continued to lead them.

"If you saw the carving on the archway back there, then you should have a good idea of what the Deep One looks like. I believe there is a mythology you surface dwellers have that depicts the Deep One surprisingly accurately. It is a giant creature, shaped like you and I but with tendrils on its face and dark eyes..."

Berlin could take note of Lelei's lack of an answer to her particular inquiry.

They approached a large structure at the very end of the cave, positioned and built as the central feature of this part of the city. It was built into the wall and looked like church and fortress combined, designed to be both reverent and strong. They passed through the main entrance and into area that was much more dimly lit than the rest of the city, save for the massive ornate glass window that faced outward out the other side of the building, offering a view of the dark depths of the canyon.

More guards were posted at a massive circular stone on the floor below the glass window. The stone was carved in a similar fashion to the archway to the cave. Waves around the edges with fish and other sea creatures beneath, then depictions of the shark people below that, then a depiction of the Deep One's head at the very center. Lelei hovered above it as he order the guards to move the stone aside.

"This is it... Prepare yourselves from here on out. Stay together and heed my words."

The stone was pushed aside to reveal a short tunnel leading out to the canyon beyond, and the darkness that filled it. Beyond the tunnel, there was no evidence of the shark people's city, and it looks like the equivalent of an undersea desert. Once everyone was through, the entrance was sealed again. The waters were eerily quiet and devoid of life.

Morgan trembled at the thought of fighting that gigantic humanoid squid monster, but she had already gotten this far so there was no backing out. She slowed down her swimming until she was stopped, wading in the water for a moment and taking a deep breath, she spoke in a very low and quiet tone "Glaceau, I require your abilities..." a few seconds passed and Morgan could hear her response in the back of her head, "My powers are yours.". She took another moment to herself to test her abilities, just to make sure everything was working properly, she made a decently sized cube of ice, about the size of one of those colorful puzzle cubes, she held it in her hands for a few moments before letting go of it. Morgan made a swatting motion to the cube and it quickly sunk to the bottom of the cave, ice usually isnt supposed to sink but Morgan had learned a trick from her grandmother to make it do so when she was younger. After testing her abilities she resumed her swimming, following her humanoid shark guide.
