It takes but one glance to see that Lelei, as he strangely prefers to be called, is not a normal person. Sure, his overall shape is that of a Human, save for his prodigious tail, but there are plenty of other aspects of him that say otherwise. There are pointed fins on his elbows and head, his head is elongated into a fearsome maw, his tail... exists. Considering his shark-esque qualities, Lelei maintains a very muscular and sculpted build that's evident even under his shark skin.

Lelei retains the innate curiousness of his shark anscestors. It's a mild curiosity in that anything he finds particularly out of the ordinary will pique his attention. In general, and unfortunately, it mostly manifests around one of two general things: 1.)Things that he feels might be a threat to his well being or the well being of people in his charge or 2.)Things that he might sort of, kind of want to eat or at least know what they taste like. Of course he is not a monster, but it is very difficult to tell when he is curious regarding the former or the latter. It does not help that he favors physical skin-on-skin examination more than simply looking.
Conscientiousness: (efficient/organized vs. easy-going/careless)
Befitting a former guard, Lelei is all about oraganization and regimentation. He will demand that all his questions be answered to his satisfaction. He will expect those in his charge to be physically fit and ready to handle any challenge he might, and will, throw their way. If someone's safety is on the line, he will not hesitate to use intimidation tactics if it means keeping an order and safety.
Extraversion: (outgoing/energetic vs. solitary/reserved)
Most of the time, Lelei prefers to keep an air of professional detachment about him. When on the job, he will keep to himself and only say or ask what needs to be said or asked. Blunt and to the point, Lelei does not hold back when it comes to questions or just saying out loud what is on his mind. When off the clock, Lelei is... quiet but socialable. He likes to be around other people, even if he does not talk.

Sharks are not typically known to travel in schools, and are usually found by themselves out in the ocean. Lelei is much the same way. While he does not go out of his way to avoid people, he just does not make the effort to break the ice until something particularly interesting comes up or the other person does it.

Most of Lelei's special abilities come from his shark heritage, with only a few minor exceptions. For instance, Lelei possesses above average strength and speed even when on land. When in water, Lelei is exceptionally fast and most of his abilities benefit from being in the water.
Being a shark, Lelei is able to breathe underwater. When on land, he can breathe just fine in most situations. His gills are covered enough that they can maintain their own moisture most of the time. However, Lelei cannot last long in particularly arid environments without regularly wetting his gills.

While also on the subject of senses, Lelei is especially sensitive to the smell of blood and can smell even tiny traces of it up to 500 feet.
Sharks are also known for one other particular trait: their jaw strength and teeth. His transformation has not dulled his already impressive maw. His bite force can easily break bones and pierce thin metals, and his teeth are razor sharp. Though his teeth regularly fall out or break, they are quickly replaced in a matter of days. Like all sharks, he actually has several rows of teeth that continually grow and replace themselves.

He succeeded for the most part, but made just enough mistakes to turn himself into an urban legend akin to the Mothman or Bigfoot, only for a tropical island. That was when it became actually difficult to exclude himself from people, as the morbidly curious and reckless would go into the wild to look for "Shark Foot".
But when it came to an island with an institution like Starlight Academy present, rumors of a shark-like beast in the wild could only lead to an actual investigation from more qualified persons from the Academy. Such persons were easily able to track down and make contact with Lelei, much to his dismay. Lelei was no mindless beast, however, and submitted to being interviewed and questioned like a good sentient being.
The Academy, after studying and questioning him for a long while, offered him a deal: A place to stay and steady work safety officer for both the school and the general island public. It was a strange proposition, and he hesitated to accept at first. But the school convinced him it would be honest work that would ingratiate him to Manta Carlos, and that his past position as a guard in said undersea kingdom could be put to use.
