Appearance Description

Rhys is very tall and lanky at six feet four inches, has very attractive angular features, and a heavy mess of freckles (perhaps slightly more of them than his twin sister). His eyes are a bit upturned, with visible fluttery eyelashes (not too heavy, not too light, perfect), blue-green in color, and always have a spark in them. His hair is a natural bold, golden blond, slightly wavy and feathery, in a short style but with ends that stubbornly (and charmingly) flip up a bit. Hell fuckin' yeah he's a goddamn pretty boy, and don't you forget it.

He's very animated, dramatic in all his movements and emotions, fluid and alive. He very much lives in the moment, making everything he does count, bright and entertaining- you could accurately compare him to fireworks. Flashy handsome jerk. He almost always has a grin on his face.

Since he came to Manta Carlos, Rhys was able to have some high quality, permanent magical body changes that he's never going to stop feeling thankful over- so you couldn't really tell he was originally assigned female, but he has no shame over any of that, and doesn't keep it as much of a secret.

Rhys has, unlike his twin sister, always had perfect vision (better than average, really, he has a very good eye for things), and has never needed glasses or contacts.

Rhys has a dandy clothing style, often with light colors (favorite being blue and green, to match his eyes) and fun patterns (simple is usually best- give him some stripes and dots and he's good to go!). He's a snappy dresser, and always has at least a little effort put into his outfits when he goes out. If he's at home, of course, he won't think twice about just wandering around his underwear (and some kind of graphic t-shirt, if you're lucky).

Rhys will always tend to have things tucked away in his clothes- a knife or two, a gun somewhere, lock picking tools, those straws in amusing shapes... never know when you could need those, right? Over the years, he's screwed around enough to figure out what things in what places will get past pat downs and metal detectors.

Rhys is very slim and doesn't weigh too much, always prepared to break into a dance or some kind of gymnastic feat, as well as sneak about without making a sound and barely touching the ground. And although he's so light, well... he knows how to use what force he has very much to his advantage. He's quick, snappy, and ruthless.

Rhys has a flowing, perky voice, always just a bit amused or flirtatious leaning, and very honeyed. He has a british accent, which is usually more stereotypically upper/middle class sounding, but occasionally- when he's in a fucked up state or too out of it just general (sometimes he does it when he's only half awake) he'll slip into his far more crude cockney.

Personality Description

TRAINWRECK MONSTER, SO HYPED ABOUT ALL THE THINGS, LET'S DANCE AND BATHE IN MONEY BABY!

Rhys is energy, and exciting impulses, enthusiasm and artistic flair in everything he does. 'Artist' is something he loves to think of himself as. He embraces extremes, in impermanence and destruction, in everlasting and creation.

He's also been called a monster. That's fine. He's too far gone to care. If he's a monster, at least he's a beautiful one. Such a beautiful, beautiful trainwreck.

Rhys is cheerful, pleasant, and fast paced. He can also be impulsive and shallow. He wants to bathe in fuckin' money every night and oh, oops, you may have just slept with him but uhh what was your name again? You're cute, really, darling, but are you really all that memorable past that? Rhys isn't evil, but sometimes he gets in these modes. This state that's both self-destructive, and destructive to other people and things. Sometimes everything feels disgusting and you just have to claw your way out, get rid of it all, ruin, until it's something new and you can't remember what was wrong in the first place.

Monster. Beautiful trainwreck Rhys. Doll, you'll go places, if you don't go down in flames and burn, burn, burn first.

Rhys hates death. Every time he empties a gun into a man's head, slits a throat, he gets shivers down his spine and feels like he's going to throw up. He kills with a smile, a sick delight that stays with him in the worst of ways. Sometimes he craves it, with those awful, awful moods of his. Some kind of punishment, or reminder, or just a morbid fascination. He doesn't really know how to explain or rationalize anything of what he is. He doesn't know. He just keeps doing it.

He hates death, but honestly, he feels like he's going to die first before any of what he is can be fixed. He's always been off. So charming, so full of sunny energy and personality, but... off. You can see it in him, if you look closely enough, really listen to him when he talks. Everything he does is entwined closely with all his oddities, his confusing thought processes and moods, the fact that he thinks he's doomed to die in a blaze of glory and horrors, it's inescapable.

Rhys is a very charming person, flirtatious and engaged, very appealing and treating those he's only just met with a warmth that suggests they've known each other for years. He's the kind of guy that really draws you in and promises a good time, a party, date, or adventure you'll always remember fondly. He's colorful, and unique, and will probably be gone by morning. And if you ever see him again, well, it'll be a real treat.

If you manage to keep up with Rhys and have an actual connection of sorts with him, you can guarantee he'll keep it interesting.

Powers/Species Traits

Master thief
Rhys comes from a human bloodline with latent magic, only unlocked through great motivation.

Acrobatic agility

Self explanatory. As well as a skill, Rhys has outright powers assistance with intense stunts and graceful maneuvers alike.

Security bypass

Rhys is a human skeleton key. There are no wards, locks, puzzles or tricks that can keep him out of something. If there's something intended to be a security measure (excluding guards that aren't woven into the protections of something), he can get through it, whether it's through outright slipping through/ignoring it, dancing with it playfully or in stunning complexity, or (as a last resort) wrecking shit- he'll make this happen, nothing stands a damn chance.

Small things, like non-magical security or a small lock, barely take any effort from Rhys. Moderate and large, far more powerful and intricate things, take more and more energy, and Rhys can't use this ability to its fully extent if he's physically, mentally, and magically exhausted. Although he can't be immedietely killed through using his power too much, it can make him sick or knock him out.

Complicated security is both harder and more fun for Rhys to deal with, as they have to be magically 'danced' with rather than bluntly ruined or slipped through. One overpowered wall of a ward, as an opposite example, is laughably easy to get through, as it's both overconfident and too simple.

Rhys has three main ways to deal with security (and although things can be combined or more casual, it's easier to think in such terms): destruction, dancing, and sneaking.

Destruction is removing the security completely- jamming locks, wrecking wards, etc. It's attention drawing, however, and is only to be used either as a last resort, or in a situation where it doesn't matter if people notice what you're doing/you'll be doing it fast.

Dancing matches up best with detailed, beautiful systems, and involves Rhys weaving his own magic into things and artfully disengaging it all/controlling it. It's highly unlikely, but it's not completely impossible to notice him doing this, especially if a person is actively and magically connected to their own security. This takes a certain passion, and you can get away with only being half focused as long as there's a proper spark in what you're doing.

Sneaking is slipping through things, unnoticed or not minded by the security. Keeping this up is the easiest when one is calm and focused. This is best matched up with very serious, stiff, quiet security.

Rhys has better mental and magical protections on his own mind due to the fact that he sometimes has to worm his way into foreign magical systems to deal with them. Although his power, used with enough energy and time, doesn't seem to have any limit, if he were to tangle with something drenched in corrupting eldritch magic, he'd be at more risk. Rhys is lucky, and his ability is impressive, but he's still human at his core. He's not immune to being damaged by what he does, even if his success rate is unbeatable.

Another side trait to this power is that he can usually see what makes up a security system, mind easily thinking of solutions or dangers to it all.

(Author's note: I won't break into and steal your stuff unless we agree it's okay, so don't worry about that. Intense ability will be used with care and consent between the writers.)

Biography

a summary: parents were ordinary thieves and taught kids a lot of good stuff, then brought kids on a heist aND THEY MESSED IT UP RIP. PARENTS DEAD NOW. SISTER IS NEVER GOING TO MESS UP AGAIN, BROTHER IS GOING TO DESTROY, RUIN, COMPLETELY WRECK THE SYSTEM AND LAUGH IN ITS FACE

Rhys had a happy childhood. His little family of his parents and his twin sister Vivian might've never been rich, and they might have- while never fully leaving London- moved around a lot, but god was he happy. The two twins were always so close, despite some of their differences, and their parents loved them to no end.

They were all inseparable, except for when, of course, their parents weren't going on big heists. The twins weren't allowed to go along on those adventures until they were adults, but that was accepted. For the time being, they got to hear all the stories. And god, did Rhys love it. He'd get so starry eyed, listening to tales of glory and money before bedtime, then dreaming of all the ways he'd be the same as well as better.

Rhys and his sister grew up homeschooled, a mix of self taught and learning from their parents. This made them very independent and resourceful early on, always with an extra spark to their knowledge, a trust in their own intelligence and competence.

Somewhere in their teens, Rhys and Vivian came to the conclusion they'd be better off if they switched names, IDs, and majorly- genders. They'd both already been experimenting with presentation, making their parents mix up their names, so why not go all out once and for all? It worked out perfectly.

Life was good. Really good. Something always has to give, doesn't it?

Eighteenth birthday.

Rhys and Vivian weren't clueless, weren't shoved into this world without warning, they'd been training and doing little things since they were tiny. But this was still… it was still more, and they were still caught off guard, even if they pretended they weren't. It was more than they could handle, and while they both messed up in their own ways, in over their heads, Rhys will always feel he fucked up the most. Because that's what he does. He fucks up.

That's what he does.

Their parents took the fall easily, as they'd been wanted for a while, and Vivian had to get Rhys out of there quite literally kicking and screaming. It ended with their father dead and their mother being taken to prison.

Rhys shut down. And if it hadn't been for his sister, still being there, working and urging him to work too, he might have stayed like that forever. It still lingers in him, but at least… at least, sometimes, he can almost seem like he's okay. Vivian threw herself into improving their skills, making sure mistakes like that would never happen again, planning to break their only living parent out. Maybe retire, after what had been faced, what had been lost. Go live somewhere nice with lots of sun, be a family again, like dad would've wanted. The promise of such a thing drove Rhys forward.

Everything Vivian had set up, it was perfect. This time, there were no mistakes on their side. But in the chaos of their jailbreak, either through pure panic or actual murder…

Both parents were gone now. Just like that. It felt so easy, death. Too easy. Rhys despised it, and feared it, in every part of his being. Vivian woke up her magic, with this, while they escaped. Always doing the right thing, always so clean, his sister. Saving him again, while he burned from the inside out.

But something always had to give. Rhys finally snapped just a bit, and nothing was going to keep him from those he wanted to erase from this world, as they'd done to his parents. Security measures, they meant nothing to someone like Rhys any longer, as he'd unlocked his own latent magic. It felt right. He was a monster, something that destroyed whatever was in his path, regarded rules with disgust. He didn't even has to be disruptive when passing security, he simply ignored it, and it was intimidated by him. At other times, he'd learn he could dance with it, like an art, but for this… for this, he only had the scariest of focus, and wasn't going to slow down or be human again until what he needed to do had been done.

He killed all those directly involved with going after their family that day. He let the blood sink into his skin, made sure he'd remember it all, like a reward and a punishment in the same breath. Thought about the families he'd ruined, broken, destroyed through this. Guilt weighed the same as the feeling of power and justice.

He realized then that human wasn't a label he'd be able to use for himself, not genuinely, ever again.

Rhys was wrong inside, but somehow, able to stand on his own again. Things were settled, in a way, and he and his sister… had to go on. They had powers to use, heists to plan, a name to make for themselves.

And so they did.

After everything awful happened, they both calmed down and simultaneously made things more exciting. Rhys and Amaryllis moved around a lot at first, being flashy about their crimes, making lavish vacations of their careers in crime. They started taking business- and with their powers and skills, quickly becoming important names in the underworld. They spent years on all this, and have settled comfortably into a life of rich and famous.

They've been in Manta Carlos for near two years now, enough time to be well known, very high quality menaces.
