Kim In Suk

Still hand in hand with Fontaine, In Suk soon found herself in a part of town that definitely looked sufficiently magic-y for her expectations. That was to say, the place looked a bit like a slum, but it was a tasteful slum that knew what it was, and you could actually walk around there without constantly worrying that you were about to get mugged. Alleyways were a different story. The creepy ones, anyways, since there seemed to be some pretty well lit ones around, too.

Somehow, In Suk was enchanted, probably since creepy didn't register very well on her stranger danger meters and also because Fontaine's hand was nice and warm in hers. She felt a bit like she was glowing and since things like sound -the idea of them, anyways- were just as wondrous as magic itself, she liked to think that she sounded sparkly as a result. In her mind, it would be a pretty sound that meant happy things, somehow. To most hearing able people, that description probably would have sounded suspiciously like humming.

Seeing vibrating wings hovering in the corner of her vision, she automatically reached out and plucked her dragonfly out of the air. Normally, she was fine with it doing as it pleased but because she didn't know the area very well, In Suk wanted to make sure that somebody wouldn't just steal it while her head was turned. Although maybe with Fontaine there, that wouldn't happen? Having two people around was much better than just being alone, In Suk was starting to realize. It was a lot easier than she thought, communicating with regular people.

Maybe later she would go ahead and find more people to talk to. But for the moment, there was just her, Fontaine, and a bunch of shops with tantalizing window displays. In Suk naturally wanted to see them all.

Turning her head from side to side as they both walked through a store populated area, Fontaine made sure to keep hold of In Suk's hand. The last thing that she wanted to happen was loosing In Suk in a crowd or if they were to magically wander off from each other. She knew that she could take care of herself, but considering In Suk was her first real friend on the island, she wanted to keep her safe and out of danger. She wasn't sure how she would even guarantee her safety, as she couldn't guarantee her own. It wasn't like she had a huge sword or some animal companion to protect and help her.

She could change colors on herself, and last time she checked the only thing that was good for was blending in and confusing people. As she looked at the stores that passed them, it seemed that they were all things that they weren't looking for. It was her job to read all or most of the signs as In Suk most likely couldn't considering they had to use a phone to talk a while back. Fontaine wasn't exactly sure as to what she was looking for, nor did she know as to what In Suk was trying to find, but she guessed that her friend would most likely stop her if she had found something she wanted to check out. Fontaine opened her mouth to talk but then remembered that even if she did, it would be useless. Jumping a bit as In Suk grabbed her metalish dragonfly, she had almost forgotten that it was there. She hoped that with her new color of hair that the metal thing wouldn't attack or be around her again.

At Fontaine's sudden but slight start, In Suk looked her way. Was there something wrong? she wondered, feeling a bit confused. Maybe the other girl just didn't like this part of the city all that much. While that would have been disappointing, In Suk was also confident in her ability to find something interesting enough for Fontaine to enjoy. Probably. After all, there were plenty of neat things that were always lying around. It was just that few people seemed to notice them. A bit of water and polishing and some re-anything and then you could get something really special.

What would Fontaine like to see? Judging by the way she kept recoloring things, In Suk thought that she'd like to see something pretty and colorful and that just so happened to coincide perfectly with what she liked, too. A lot of the windows on the street had their curtains cast wide open, revealing collections of mysterious, mostly antique looking objects. So not too much color was to be seen there, unfortunately, but there was an astounding variety of shapes present. And creatures.

A couple of shops down from the corner of the street, there was a shop front painted a blindingly bright shade of grass green. It had a nice, albeit dusty bay window built right next to a yellow door. Through it, In Suk thought she could see stacks of cages with mostly normal looking creatures inside. With how old the window was, however, she couldn't be sure how correct that observation was.

There was a big sign placed over the window, spanning most of the width of the store front. In Suk couldn't read it at all. In fact, she wasn't even sure if it was written in English. It was very pretty, though. And squiggly. It was probably a bad reason that she wanted to see what was in that store just because of the green and the pretty sign but In Suk felt reasonably won over. Squeezing Fontaine's hand, she tugged a little in that direction, indicating that she wanted to see what was there.

Written in English cursive, the sign on that store read, Wanda's Amazing Collection of Magical and Mundane Creatures.

As In Suk and her ventured further, Fontaine became more and more confused as to where they were. She didn't feel safe, as if at any moment some fire wielding person would tap on her shoulder before blowing fire in her face. Though that was a long shot, she felt as if people like her, and especially In Suk, should not be where they were. This was a place for people who could protect themselves, who had money to spend, or wanted to learn more. Even though that last point was true for Fontaine, she wasn't sure if getting to learn new things was good enough to loose her life for. Lightly shaking her head, she tried to come back into a normal mindset, one that didn't involve everything around her trying to kill her.

Looking over at In Suk for a brief second, a huge smile crossed her face. She was glad to have met her, as she was really, her first and probably only friend. She couldn't tell if the girl was enjoying herself, or just unsure of it all to really show any signs of distress or excitement. Fontaine decided that maybe she should follow in In Suk's steps and remain calm and cool.

Looking back towards the stores and shops, she was startled by the sudden change of movement from her friend. Looking over at her, she was happy to see that she wasn't in any distress. Looking in the other direction, she noticed the store that she had stopped at. It looked interesting to say the least. Turning back once again towards In Suk, she pointed towards the shop, as if to see if it was indeed the store that had interested the girl. She also decided to give the girl a big smile as well as a light squeeze to her hand, as she had done to her.

Feeling especially encouraged, she smiled happily and went to the door. As she pushed it open, her dragonfly made a little movement in her hair. In Suk guessed that there was some kind of bell ringing to alert the shopkeeper, since the critter always reacted to that sort of thing. It was all part of its initial wiring, back when In Suk made the decision that if she couldn't have a hearing dog of her own -their family apartment just wasn't large enough for that- she might as well make something that could function as one.

Although, Oh! Maybe I could have one now? Does the Academy even allow pets? She thought it did, so that was good enough, right? Besides, some of the students really were animals so. Eagerly, she looked around. Inside of the shop, the walls were lined with cages of various sizes, all housing animals of all sorts.

Not having had much contact with animals in the past -besides handbooks anyways- it was completely lost on In Suk that this just might be a bit of a shifty business despite its brightly colored trappings. For one, some of the animals seemed a bit odd. None seemed to be completely at ease except for a few of the more dangerous looking ones -snakes and multi-colored frogs. It was also deadly silent except for the footsteps of humans inside, currently consisting of In Suk, Fontaine, a middle aged saleswoman with a sunny grin, and a few other customers on the older side of the age spectrum.

And lastly, In Suk was blissfully unaware of the fact that there was a medium sized sign on the cages on the back wall which very empathetically stated, WARNING: EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND MAGICAL CREATURES CONTAINED HERE. HANDLE WITH CARE. Naturally, the Korean girl gravitated to them, attracted by the presence of a dimly lit fish tank.

A light smile crossed her face as the girl and her went into the store. She felt a lot safer to be with the girl, as she most likely wouldn't have went into the store alone. Fontaine would have most likely just kept going on her marry way if it hadn't been for her friend being there with her. Squeezing her hand ever so gently, she continued forward with the girl. Looking around at her surroundings, she saw all different types if cages, and in those cages, she saw animals of all different shapes and sizes. 'I'm not sure about this.' She thought, knowing that considering that In Suk didn't have any problems that she could see so far. She followed the girls movements, not wanting to stray away from her. Looking around cautiously, she wondered as to why all those animals were in cages around them. Were they dangerous, or toxic? Fontaine didn't really want to find out. Looking over to her friend, She followed her gaze to a sign, which made her shiver on the inside slowly. Magical and Dangerous? Why on earth did In Suk want to go there? Sighing reluctantly, she nodded her head slowly to herself as she agreed to keep going in the way that In Suk wanted.

Okay, so even In Suk could admit that there was something kind of creepy about this section of the store. Staring deeply into the fish tank, she was completely oblivious to the fact that a very large and very dangerous Komodo dragon trying break out of its cage above her. Sometimes, there were benefits to being deaf.

Is there actually something in there? She squinted at the dark waters. There wasn't even a shimmer of anything. It seemed like the liquid was just sucking up the light. She didn't understand what was the point of having a clear fish tank if there wasn't anything to see. In that case, they might as well use a piece of pottery instead.

She turned back to Fontaine, feeling her interest wane considerably. "I do not think there's anything here," In Suk wrote doubtfully.

Behind her, two glowing eyes illuminated the fish tank, revealing a spiked creature with rows upon rows of razor sharp teeth.

Watching the girls' every move, she kept close to In Suk, not wanting to be gobbled or snatched away by some random person or one of the creatures, though both of those were very unlikely to happen. 'Why on earth did anyone think that it was a good idea to have a store full of weird animals in the first place?' She thought to herself as she shook her head at her surrounding area. The only thing that was keeping her in the store was In Suk, as she didn't want to leave her side, as she herself would be frightened as most likely In Suk too if they got separated. Looking at the tank that In Suk was so fixated on, she saw nothing of interest, making her look around the store rather than where her friend was. Taking a deep breath, she looked at In Suk again as she realized that she was turned towards her. Glancing downwards slightly, she noticed the glimmer of her cellphone screen, which most likely meant that she was typing something for her. "I do not think there's anything here," was what was wrote on her little screen, a statement that Fontaine was happy to see that she agreed with her on. There wasn't anything for her, nor did she ever want to go back into the store. As she nodded her head in agreement at the girl, something out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. Tilting her head to the side lightly to see the glow from behind In Suk, she jumped lightly at the sight of big, yellow eyes, gleaming at her. Tapping In Suk on the shoulder, she pointed to the tank that had looked empty only a few seconds ago.

As Fontaine tapped her on the shoulder, In Suk glanced back at the fish tank that she had given up on, only to catch sight of one of the most monstrous creature she had ever seen in her entire life. Jerking back in surprise, she stumbled a little on her feet before steadying herself, ready to finally take a good look at. Whatever it was. To her dismay, the thing had already begun to retreat back into the darkness, probably aware that it was unable to devour her.

No, no, no, come baaaack! Leaning forward so that her face was mere centimeters from the glass, the girl peered back into the waters. When the thing did not reappear, she scrunched up her face and began to wave her hands nonsensically. Maybe the movement would lure it back out? It was so annoying when things decided to just disappear on her before she could properly study them.

When nothing happened, In Suk began to tap the glass impatiently, ignoring the sign literally right next to her that said Please do not tap the glass. Spot checks weren't exactly her specialty when she wasn't looking for anything. And, of course. English. Always an issue there.

The saleswoman noticed her. "Excuse me, miss?" The woman said sunnily with a wide grin as she came over. "Please refrain from tapping on the glass. Miss? I will have to ask you to leave if you won't kindly stop that."

Being a bit shocked by In Suk's reaction, she was still happy that she had made her turn around, so she still was able to get a glimpse of the strange creature. Smiling happily as In Suk looked into the glass tank, the smile faded quickly when she saw that the creature was already retreating back into the darkness. 'Couldn't it have stayed out a bit longer for In Suk to enjoy it?' She questioned to herself, as to why she even cared that much about if In Suk was having a good time. Maybe it was because she was her first, and most likely only friend ever? That thought alone amazed her.

As In Suk started to wave her hands around frantically in front of the glass, Fontaine began to worry. She has no idea as to what she was trying to accomplish, but it most likely had to do with the creature that had vanished before them both. It was a strange thing. When she started to tap on the glass, a shock of worried feelings washed over her, looking to the side to see a sign that said that there should be no glass tapping, which of course, In Suk couldn't understand, or care about. She felt as if she should say something, though she didn't.

When the lady walked towards them, making threats to throw them out due to In Suk's tapping, she got a sudden sense of responsibility. Looking at In Suk, she took her hand, spinning her around lightly, putting her behind herself, as if to protect her from the lady. She just hoped that she stayed behind her. "I am sorry, Miss." She said in a scowling tone. "But my friend doesn't understand or speak English, so I am sorry that your sign had no affect on her. She does not understand either of us, as not everyone on this island speaks English." Smirking, she continued. "So I would appreciate if you wouldn't mock my friend, prejudging her that she must know English because your store is in English. If you want her to stop then maybe it would be a good idea to have more than one language."

Looking behind her, to her, she smiled brightly, then looked back at the lady. Fontaine had no idea where that had came from, but she felt as if she had to protect her. "And if I hadn't been here, would you have ripped her hands off the glass? Or thrown a student out with your bare hands? That can't be good for your reputation, miss."
