In Suk felt the crack beneath their feet and for a split second, thought it was the step under her. She was already reaching out for Fontaine when she realized no, no, she had interpreted it wrong. As she was lurching forwards, the other girl was lurching back. In another split second, In Suk made a hurried decision that was agonizing for just that moment before the feeling was gone. She let go of her phone. It fell somewhere but she would have to look for it later.

Losing her phone really was like losing her foot but she wasn't going to let Fontaine pitch down the stairs. And at least she had her hands. She hooked her arms around Fontaine as they collided and pushed all of their weight backwards. For a moment, they tottered uncertainty but In Suk, small as she was, was also strong. She held her friend tightly and just took the fall.

Feeling herself loose her balance completely, she was worried about her own wellbeing. What would happen? Would she go back and crack her hands trying to catch herself, or her head when she didn't? It was as if a thousand thoughts crossed her, all telling her to stay alive. She heard a clank to her side, as a faint light could be seen out of the corner of her eye. Was that In Suk's phone? She had no time to worry about such a thing, it was time to panic.

All of her worries went away as she felt the sudden feeling of arms around her, supporting her small body. In Suk's arms. Fontaine blushed heavily at the feeling of the girl's arms wrapped around her so firmly, protecting her from the danger she was about to face. She was more shocked than anything, she hadn't expected the girl to help her. As she fell backwards, she held onto In Suk's arms lightly, not wanting to reach her hands back, hurting herself even more. As they fell, she braced herself for the worse. In Suk would take most of the impact, as she was holding onto Fontaine tightly. Fontaine grunted lightly as they hit, propping her feet below her as they laid there. She now didn't even care about if she was hurt anywhere, all her thoughts concerned In Suk.

It wasn't as bad of a fall and she had been expected, but it definitely gave her a good jolt. She tried not to fall completely straight on her back for fear of seriously damaging something and managed to land a bit on her side instead. There was an awful pain in her arm for a moment but she kept on holding Fontaine until it dissipated shortly after.

In Suk rolled onto her rear and let the girl go. Her glasses had been knocked askew and her phone had gone somewhere but mostly she was worried about Fontaine. Without her phone, there wasn't much that she could really do, and even if Fontaine could understand sign language, it was too dark to see her hands. She picked gently at the girl's sleeve and leaned a little on her shoulder in a silent question of Are you okay?

As both their bodies impacted the stairs, Fontaine was more worried about her friend than herself. As she would be taking most of the impact, she was concerned that the girl would crack or break something in her body. Fontaine winced lowly, as she had hit the back of her left calf against the stairs rather hard. She held onto her friend until she let go of her, to which she moved out of the way for her friend to get out from under her. Going up a step as she babied her left leg, she sighed heavily, wanting to thank In Suk a million times over. The only problem was that In Suk had lost her phone in order to protect her from the fall. They were either going to have to find a light, leave the building, or continue to go down. Fontaine looked over at her friend as she felt a light tug on her sleeve. It was so dark. As she looked up and down the girl's body, she wondered if In Suk was alright.

Fontaine moved up to the same step as In Suk, but she moved slowly as the girl was leaning lightly on her shoulder. As she stared at the darkness around the girl's face. Feeling a range of emotions, she sniffled loudly as she wrapped her arms tightly around the girl. She knew that In Suk was trying to see if she was alright, even through the language difference and the darkness. The thing was, she was not okay. Yes, physically she was fine, only suffering a small wound on her leg. Emotionally, she was a wreck. The shock of the fact that she could have been majorly hurt had just set in. She tightened her grip around the girls' body as she started to sob to herself. Though she was most likely being over-dramatic, In Suk most likely saved her life. She only wished she knew how to say thank you.

As Fontaine suddenly wrapped her arms around her, In Suk simply froze for a moment. She wasn't used to people just randomly hugging her, although she supposed that this wasn't really a random encounter so much as an actual brush with death. Suddenly, the prospect of exploring didn't seem as great anymore, and this was all her fault, wasn't it?

She hugged Fontaine back, although not as crushingly. It was obvious to her that the other girl was crying, just because of how she felt in her arms. There wasn't anything she could do except huddle close and rub circles into Fontaine's back, just like how her mother used to when she was young.

Everything that had happened had been so fast. It seemed that her life had flashed before her eyes, ending on In Suk. Was there any real way you could forgive someone for saving your life? was there some secret code or gift you could give? It seemed as if making smiles and hand gestures to her would have to do for now. Maybe another hug or two. Loosening her grip just lightly, she rubbed her face against the girl, not wanting to cry like she was doing. Thinking of ways to thank In Suk, she opened her mouth to say thank you, but forgot their language situation. It seemed that Fontaine wild have to get tutored to be able to speak with In Suk. It would at least be worth it.

It felt nice to have her friends arms around her, even if they were loose and there for comfort. They felt protecting, as if the girl's arms would save her from any harm. She just wanted to stay there for bit longer, until her heart rate at least went down a few beats. She wished that it was more lit up, so that she could pull away and smile at her saviour, maybe even give her a kiss on the cheek, like in the movies. They had lost their source of light, as well as something else of In Suk's, just in order to safe her not so precious body.

As she sniffled to herself, she pulled away softly to be able to look around for the light. Spotting it, it wasn't too far away from them, but it seemed as if they would have to go down deeper just to be able to get it back. Fontaine took one of her hands away from In Suk to point. She just hoped that the limited light would be enough for her friend to see.

For a person who normally didn't view their circumstances as a disability, In Suk really did feel like she had hit an insurmountable barrier. It was like in those videogames where the hero was just a lump of pixels stopped dead by a waist-high fence. She could see where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do. But there wasn't a way through. The only path open to her was the long way. If she could just walk that way once, then she could start cutting away the garbage in between.

But this is kind of nice, too. The warmth of their two hands had made her feel all tingly before. Now, in this hug in the dark, In Suk was starting to feel very strange. It was like butterflies all over her skin, and she meant that without all of the weird ickiness that a squeamish person might have felt. She wondered if there was any other way to get this feeling, one that didn't involve almost dying.

As Fontaine pulled away, In Suk began to feel a bit uneasy. Certainly a bit colder, too, but she just bore it. Maybe she was just being weird. When the other girl pointed, her eyes fell down to where her phone was. Was that the bottom, then? Or was it just another part of the stairs? It didn't seem so far away now and even if the place was a bit scary, she did need that phone.

Slowly, In Suk began to shift to her feet, making sure that she wasn't pushing Fontaine off balance as she did so. She wasn't going to go on ahead without the girl either. Never, for certain.

It seemed that In Suk understood her pointing, as she looked over and seemed to recognize what she was referring to in the dark. It wasn't far, which made Fontaine sigh lightly in relief. They could make it. There was only have a dozen steps, give or take a few. She had an urge to run down and leap to the glowing object. She wanted to get it over with, being in the dark in an unknown place. The only thing that made this all bearable was In Suk. She made it okay, as if just her presence made their predicament a lot less scary.

She for sure wasn't going to go alone though, nor did she want to think that In Suk would leave her. Fontaine widened her eyes as the girl moved, feeling a tug in her heart as the girl got further from her. Wanting to make sure that they would at least go at the same pace down the stairs, she rotated her body too, slowly, then pushed herself closer to In Suk, so that they were touching shoulders and part of their biceps.

She put on a weak smile, fearing that she would have another fall and that In Suk wouldn't catch her. She wanted to at least know that the girl was beside her as they made their decent downwards. Fontaine modded to herself, wondering if her dear friend was ready to venture to retrieve their light source. It felt a bit magical to be so close to In Suk, in silence.

A light blush crossed her face as the silence engulfed her slowly. She was getting this feeling in her, something that she couldn't explain. As she took a small breath, she turned her head towards the cause of this feeling, she nodded and leaned a bit forward. She was trying to signal that she was ready to go down. For their sake, taking each step on their hind ends may not be so bad of a plan.

Crouching, In Suk felt around on the steps beneath them, trying to find the place where Fontaine had fallen at. Soon enough, her legs were beginning to ache a little from the position and while it was nothing that she couldn't handle, she figured that maybe it wasn't ideal for handling any future accidents. She gave up and went back on her rear instead, tapping the wood with her feet. Everything felt solid enough, up to the place where she unexpectedly found open air where a step should have been.

She poked Fontaine in the wrist a little. With her feet, she stomped as if she were going down the stairs, until she got to the break. Found it! The girl was trying to convey. What would be harder to do would be telling Fontaine that she thought they should probably not be on the same step at the same time, just in case the wood couldn't support the extra weight.

After a little thought, In Suk scooted down to the next step. And then to the next. Leaning back a little, she tugged at Fontaine's hand. Slowly, slowly.

This was progress. Though her dear friend was moving at a slow pace, Fontaine noticed the effort that she was putting in, in order to the bottom. As much as Fontaine wanted to get up and run up the dark and steep stairs, she wasn't alone and she had someone to act as a good luck charm and a nerve calmer. Fontaine would be fine as long as they didn't get separated. Trying to understand what In Suk was saying, Fontaine felt the poke on her wrist, unsure of what the gesture was supposed to mean. Was she supposed to follow her? Did she find something?

Sadly, it seemed that at this rate the two of them would most likely have to come up with a unique language just for them. As she nodded to the half bright shadow of In Suk, she tilted herself to be on her rear, seeing that In Suk's methods were working so far. As she felt a small tug on her, she nodded as she moved down carefully. As she went down to the same step as In Suk, she uneasily feel down another. Stopping herself by firmly placing her bsckside and feet into the wood surface, she sighed in relief that she wasn't going to fall again. As she looked forward, she sighed in relief as there were only a few more steps until they would reach their destination. She couldn't wait to get out of here.
