Coatzin flew above the campus while humming a soft song. Her classes had just ended and Mikistli was in a deep dreamless sleep. She could easily tell as the link between them was calm and unusually quiet, which in turn was great on her end as it allowed her to fully focus on her own stuff without having to try and avoid mixing up her alter-ego’s feeling and thoughts with her own by accident. The soul link they shared could be extremely helpful just as it could be annoying and troublesome…especially on her end. She had no idea of how dark Mikistli’s thoughts could be until then, and even less the kind of activities she…if she hadn’t stopped her from doing some probably borderline illegal stuff in the past through this link she probably would’ve started to look for a way to at least make it up to them what they wanted to share with the other.

When she reached the area right outside she finally landed and wrapped her long tail around her body the best she could, even in this academy some people had accidentally stepped on her tail or closed a door on it and she wasn’t willing to risk it.

The day was sunny and not a lot of people was around at the time, so she was unsure of what to do. Maybe she could relaxing and play some videogames on her own, or go somewhere to eat a snack, but spending time indoors wasn’t exactly an appealing thought with such a beautiful weather. So, as it was quite usual in her, her heart guided her once more, getting rid of the indecision she had by having her act on impulse instead of allowing her to take a decision through her head.

She approached a guy with skin covered in what she guessed were either tattoos or markings she had never seen before, willing to have a small chat and maybe make a new friend if they were willing to talk to her as well and had the time “Hello there, I think we haven’t met yet. Name’s Coatzin, mind if I ask your’s?”

Tez was smoking when Coatzin landed. It was a break between his psychology class, and his combat training class, and he really needed a cigarette. The warm smoke filled his lungs as he took that first drag. After all the stress of going back to school, it was the simple pleasures.

Tez's heckles raised as the girl landed, the feeling of an animal preparing to pounce filled his body. Fuck. Fuckity fuck. Tez usually had his powers under control, but he began to shift, yellow and black feathers sprouting over his body, his fingers extending into obsidian claws, his obsidian teeth sharpening in a sprouting snout. He dropped the cigarette in surprise as his fingernails extended.

Tez scrabbled in the dirt to pick it up, and took a drag on it, struggling to hold it between clawed fingers. He took a drag on it, and the rush of nicotine calmed him down somewhat, and the feathers shrunk back, claws and teeth retreated, and he looked human again. Or well as human as he usually looked. Tez turned to look at the stranger. It was a snake girl. Tez was uneasy about snakes, but that was because for some stupid divine reason, Tezcatlipoca had made Tez want to destroy anyone who as much as resembled Quezacoatl. Tez fought this desire. Hard. The Arores were a common fixture on the island now, and he had it pretty much under control. He wondered why he had such a reaction this time.

Then he noticed the wings. And the feathers. A feathered serpent. A bloody feathered serpent. No wonder he had reacted the way he did.

"Hi C-C-Coatzin" said Tez, conciously clenching and unclenching his fist, digging his nails into the palm of his hand to prevent him shifting again "I'm Tez, Tez Gann. I'm... er... sorry. I'm not usually like this"

Coatzin was taken off-guard by the unknown boy’s reaction to her presence. She could tell she hadn’t accidentally startled him, as he wouldn’t be the first and she had learned to identify this reactions. Growing up away from most magical creatures had both its perks and downsides after all. However, this made her feel a bit insecure of how to proceed or what to say as she had no idea of what was going on.

If she payed attention to the bad feeling she had about him deep inside thanks to her Quetzalcoatl half she probably would figure it out, but after talking to many creatures with auras way more unsettling than him in the past thanks to their nature, such as demons for example, she had learned to ignore it. After all, while some creatures in the island had proved her wrong, most of the time she thought that any creature had good inside and could be nice if just given the chance. This was one of the reasons she had some fairly unusual friends in her past after all.

“Its…hum…its ok. Was it something I said? Or do you need any kind of help?” She was a bit more careful with her words this time, thinking instead of speaking the first thing that came to her mind against what she usually did, just in case. She still remembered the girl that once tried to actually venerate her as a god after she revealed her nature quite a while ago. While she appreciated the friendship she had with her, having someone thinking of you as a god, following any suggestion you made like if it was an order and praising nearly anything you did was beyond awkward for her. This probably wasn’t a similar case, but since then she had learned that there are certain beings in the island that you can’t speak to freely without preparing them first, or without stepping into odd territory.

Of course, the possibility of her speaking to a clone of Tezcatlipoca, the ancient Aztec god his father sometimes warned her about and for some reason seemed to seriously dislike, didn’t even cross her mind as she didn’t see him during the few seconds he almost lost control.

"Nah i'm alright" said Tez, still clenching and unclenching his fist. He focused on the pain as the sharp obsidian nail dug into his palm. It was a practiced method. Concentrating on the pain removed his concentration from the world, and in particular Coatzin, and kept his shifting under control. He was much better these days. Back in his early days on the island, Tez got in trouble quite a bit for shifting at random times, and for fighting serpentine students. He had attended sessions with various shifters in order to control it. Focus on the world around you, was a common stratergy, or focus on a single object, every little detail. Don't think about whats happening to your body. It had been one of the strangest experiences of his life, that first shift back in school, in the human world, beyond the veil. One couldn't quite comprihend the strange feeling of your body turning into something else, your brain rewiring itself to control a different form, until it happened. There was no bones cracking into shape, like in werewolf movies, it just, well, happened.

"It's fine, i have this under control. It's feathered serpents. Nothing quite like the dude who made you making your biology want to fight people who look like his rival."

Tez sighed, took a drag on his cigarette, exhaled, and unclenched his fist. He could control it now, now the initial shock of the girls appearance had worn off, he should shove that desire to shift and fight back, deep down, to somewhere it wouldn't screw him up today.

"Fucking Tezcatlipoca..."
