Name: 'Charlie' Charon Virgil Rotmoore (taken name)

Age: Unknown. He lost count but he looks in his late thirties

Birthday: 2nd November

Gender: Male

Species: Undead (Lich)

Category: Staff

Class: Officially High School and College, and also interested students at any time. He really likes his subject.

Subject/Work: Professor of Necromancy. Can also subsitute in a wide variety of subjects if neccesary.

Appearance Description:
Charlie has bright, almost glowing blue eyes with pale, but not deathly white skin. He dresses in what someone would think a professor would look like. Tweed jackets, waistcoats, and shirts, or jumpers, almost always paired with black trousers and sleek black oxford shoes. He also wears a wide variety of ties, some plain, and some with amusing patterns. Most of his clothing has elbow patches. His hair is dark brown and he is 6'3" tall. He wears round glasses, despite not needing them.

However, this is his glamoured appearance. Beneath the glamour, which he keeps on almost permanently, he resembles a skeleton. His eyes are the same though, but instead of eyeballs, the sockets are filled with a strong glow. Deep. Glowing. Blue. Due to issues with the spell which created his glamour, this glamour often flickers.

Charlie has a strong British accent. In his glamoured form, Charlie's voice sounds like this (the guy on the left) but without his glamour, his voice becomes much deeper and creepier and sounds like this.

Personality Description:

imagine a terrifying undead necromancer, cackling as corpses rose around him, with one thing on their minds. Revenge on the living.

Charlie is nothing like that. He is kindly, always up for a chat about your studies or how everythings going, often over a nice cup of tea and a chocolate digestive. Less dark robes and more a wooly jumper. Still in black, because, its tradition. He is what you get when a powerful necromancer amasses enough knowledge to take over the world, raise a powerful army of the dead, and then realises something. If he took over the world then their would be no niceties. No more nice little bookshops or quiet cafes where the owner knows your name. No more tea. It would all stagnante. The only 'living' person in an unthinking world of the dead. And then he thought "bugger this" and put aside his plans for world domination, and got into teaching.

Charlie is the teacher you always wanted when you were in college. The nice teacher, who occasionally let you have lessons outside or would let minor misbehaviours go. He prefers that you call him Charlie instead of Professor Rotmoore. He puts his lecture notes online, and will forgive homework being a few days late. He is enthusiastic about his subject, and he really cares about his students education, and their wellbeing. He just happens to be a powerful nigh-immortal necromancer.

The only real downside to his personality is he is slowly adjusting to teaching, and to the modern world. Its not really acceptable to have a spider made of bones write on his chalkboard for him while he talks to the class. It makes teaching easier and more engaging, but its still unsettling. This is just one of numerous examples of his use of necromantic constructs to do basic tasks.

Abilities:

Active Abilities:

Necromancy - Charlie has a highly advanced knowledge of necromancy. He can create undead from anything made partially of organic material. Charlie can perform two main types of necromancy:

In the first, the raised undead can think at a basic level, perform slightly more complex tasks and do things that do not require direct orders, along with retaining knowledge. They still obey Charlie and cannot deviate from tasks that he tells them to do. These zombies are significantly more draining to create than the other variety, but are more useful and smarter, and able to operate away from Charlie. These zombies cannot be created quickly, and require up to a day to raise, as, once raised, they will no longer need Charlie's power to remain animated. However, Charlie can only raise 40 of these undead,

The second variety is the kind Charlie lovingly refers to as his horde. Charlie has to always be around these undead for them to remain animated. These undead are much less intelligent and operate purely on commands. They do, however, retain similar, if dulled, skills to those they had in life. These undead cannot operate at distances further than 200 feet from Charlie, and have to remain near him. He can also only raise around 100 of these undead at once.

Drain Life - Charlie has the power to drain the life from organic matter using any point in his body, which he can use as a weapon, although he mostly contains it to his hands. He can also, with effort, to drain people within a radius of about two meters, however this has a weaker effect to being touched. This power drained is then converted into Necromantic Energy he can use to raise undead. This was one of the powers that used to allow him to go toe to toe with gods and demons. It did not negate his weakness to them, but, since some gods are used to smiting humans (or undead) this power allowed Charlie to fight back with something that could damage divinity. Using this power on something non-organic, like grass, would simply kill it, but he would be unable to fully drain, for example, a tree, due to it's high amount of 'life' energy. Using this power also causes the death of small organisms, such as insects, bacteria and small plants nearby. It appears as a deep dark purple glow around the body part where it is, and appears as a purple stream between the user and the target when used at range.

The Sarcophagus - Charlie has an extradimensional chest, which he nicknamed the sarcophagus. It is old, very old, and is inlaid with bone strips to form spiderlike legs at the bottom. It resembles an ancient stone tomb, and is carved with an array of symbols. Inside this chest is Charlie’s house. The chest is about 50cm deep and 1m wide, but when opened can grow to around 3M square to remove larger zombies. The sarcophagus has a set of stairs, with shelves on either side, leading down into a building with various rooms including a large library and large-hangar like room where Charlie’s undead are stored.

Due to there being no source of heat within the realm, the inside of the chest is freezing cold. The only sources of heat are three of small stones, which Charlie acquired through mysterious circumstances. Within the aura of these stones, the temperature is kept at a more comfortable 20°C with a low humidity. One of these is permanently housed within the library, ensuring that the books are kept from being damaged, and the other pair are kept in the mouth of the chest, for if Charlie entertains guests. While two are big enough to heat large rooms, such as the library, one is only big enough to project heat enough for one person. Due to the magic of the stones, they must be kept inside the chest or else they break down into dust.

This sarcophagus consists of two separate entities. The chest itself, and the bone inlaid into it, which forms spider-like legs underneath. Both are attached such that they look as part of a single organism, but the bone is actually an undead creature, whose sole job is to carry the chest. It can either follow Charlie, or be told to stay and it will stay where it is, depending on mental commands. Due to the weight, the undead carrying the sarcophagus cannot move at more than walking pace. It’s quite stupid too. It doesn't really have intelligent thought more than 'follow charlie'.

Necromantic Sigils - Charlie can use his necromantic powers to perform magic different to the traditional 'raising the dead' necromancy. Charlie can use sigils to open portals to move between various places, by opening a pair of portals, one to the realm of the dead (a place similar to purgatory) and one out of this plane to the required location immediately next to the previous portal. Any living being cannot pass through these portals, but due to Charlie's soul being located in his phylactery, he can pass through the realm for short periods of time (under two minutes) These portals can only remain open for a several seconds before collapsing in on themselves and closing. These portals can take upto an hour to be opened. For several minutes before the portal is opened, the sigil used to open it will appear in the air on both planes as a black sigil. Reapers and similar beings can feel these holes between planes.

Passive Abilities:

Pseudo-Immortality - As a lich, he is kept alive by his own necromantic ability, which is stored inside a hidden magic item called his phylactery. Until this is destroyed, he cannot die, and merely revives if sufficiently wounded. Charlie is uneffected by things such as age, hunger or sickness. He takes 'damage' as reduction of the energy that powers him. Take enough, and he deanimates into a pile of bones, albeit briefly while his phylactery reanimates him. His phylactery needs to be within 100 meters of his body to reanimate it, so he always carries it around. Charlie has senses like a human, but his sense of smell and touch in any parts apart from his face or hands is massively dulled. For some strange reason, any food or drink he eats disappears.

His phylactery is an emmense store of necromantic power. It is constantly charging, taking energy from both Charlie and the environment around it. When Charlie is deanimated, it uses these stores to reanimates him, albeit he is weaker than usual. If he has not reanimated for a long time, he can reanimate within 10 minutes or so. If he dies in quick succession (i.e. two deaths within a day) it can take days or even weeks. As a creature powered by dark magic, spells designed to directly damage (not spells such as those that set things on fire, rather spells which damage the victim without external effects) increase the strength of his necromantic field, effectively 'healing' him. Charlie's phylactery is his skull, but this is a closely kept secret. It is very difficult, but not impossible, to detect this, as the phylactery is part of his body. Charlie also carries a pendant within his rib-cage which emits a similar energy to that of a phylactery, leaking evil magic, making locating his phylactery increasingly difficult. This is because Charlie must remain within about 10m his phylactery in order to remain animate. His phylactery is reinforced, as part of the ritual which turned him into a lich, but is not indestructable.

Lich soul - As a lich, Charlie's mind and soul are bound to one another. His mind and conciousness is a manifestation of his soul, which is stored in his phylactery, so without the soul, his mind wouldn't be able to exist, however the mind controls the soul, which is Charlie using his powers, and just generally being a lich. However, the soul still has a presence. Due to the horrific nature of the ritual to become a lich, Charlie's soul radiates death, highly concentrated, and could be viewed by anyone with the power to see souls as similar to looking into a void, and Charlie is generally an evil presence to anyone who can detect such things. People who connect to Charlie's mind will often also end up interacting with his soul, which can sometimes be heard as words via those who connect to Charlie. Whilst Charlie's mind is definitely and permanently in control of the soul, it is still there.

Glamour - Charlie has a glamour to make him look human. This glamour can be switched on and off at will. If he needs to use high amounts of energy, he switches it off, or if he is weakened or drained it can turn off. Due to him being unable to use his own blood in the spell that created it, It is also effected by his emotions, such as any strong emotion, and during these periods, and at random times, it can falter and briefly fail for a fraction of a second, and show parts of his natural body. If he is angry it can fail entirely.

Divinity Detection/Weakness - He can feel the presence of a divine individual (Gods, demigods and similar beings) within five meters and touching anyone who is at least part god, would cause him physical pain, similar to touching a hot stove.

Weaknesses:

Magic designed to heal damages him, and even being around those performing healing magic slows down the regeneration of his energy and causes headaches, fatigue, and even pain if used in within about a meter. He is extremely weak to the magic of gods and any magic their followers use which channel that god. Divine magic particularly extends the time for him to reanimate, as the aura left behind makes reanimation difficult. Blunt force attacks are highly effective.

Divine icons and objects cause him headaches and paraesthesia, and a severe weakening of his powers, similar to being near a divine individual. Any aura or object with the types of magic charlie is weak to effect him like an individual using that magic. Nature magic, and magic generally associated with life magic effects him the same was as divine magic.

He cannot enter active (still in use) churches, mosques, synagogues and similar religious buildings. He can freely enter any religious building which is no longer in use.

All of Charlie's undead suffer from the same weaknesses as Charlie.

Biography:

In a cave, in the cold wastes, during the ice age, the man who would become Charlie Rotmoore died. It wasn't at the hands of the beasts, but his own hand, testing out a theory that might work, or might not. If not, he had just killed himself. Good thing it worked. Charlie came back as a Lich

Charlie doesn't know how long he was alive during the ice age. The seasons changed, winter came after autumn, spring after winter. How many springs or winters there had been didn't really matter until about 6000 years ago, when Paleolithic humans started counting time.

During all that time, Charlie roamed the earth meeting people, building undead armies, and generally being an undead overlord attempting to take over the earth. Charlie gathered arcane knowledge and items from far and wide, he made friends, most of which time took from him. The world was living and therefore decaying. Atrophy was rife. Charlie had a solution. He would take over the world, one country at a time, transforming it into a clean world, of pure bone and metal. He had enough knowledge, enough power, enough undead soldiers. His plans sometimes succeded, but not on a big enough scale to do any damage that would shake the world.

During that time he found a strange island, which was hidden from the outside world, and started to use it as home base.

As time went on, he began to intigrate into humanity, on the fringes of society. Charlie brought a house in london in the early 19th century, hoping to set up a vanguard for his undead army in the center of a city. A large townhouse on swain's avenue, with a ready supply of fresh bodies nearby.

He made himself a glamour, but since he couldn't use his own blood as the spell required, the glamour can be slightly temprental and sometimes fails. He ordered a suit from a reputable saville row tailors. He found little refuges, a small tea parlour at the royal ballet, overlooking covent garden. It served a wondeful blend of tea, fresh from the orient, and the finest cake, it was like eating clouds. He decided not to put the plan he had created to end all living life. Instead, he started enjoying life, or unlife as it were. He regularly frequented the west end. He attended high society galas. His end goal was still turning the world into an undead, controllable empire, but this goal had taken a back seat.

As the world of the silver screen started up, charlie regularly travelled out to the states and to hollywood and new york, mingling with the new high society - the class of the silver screen. He drank tea with Fritz Lang and Rudolph Valentino and cocktails with Greta Carbo and Louise Brooks. He frequented high society events for over 100 years, meeting everyone from hemmingway to carroway, from jon belushi to richard nixon, all with a sense of dignity. He travelled to india, drank the finest tea, fresh from the plantation. He made friends all over the world. Life's cup was full, and he drank it deeply.

Charlie spent the turn of the millennium overlooking the newly erected london eye, bottle of cheap champaign in hand, with his oldest friend for over two and a half millenia, Amenhoteph, an Egyptian lich. After that however, he went to visit another friend, one of his closest, a dragon called Giltwing. Someone had attempted to kill Giltwing, and had stabbed him with a poisoned magical dagger. The dragon, who had guarded his horde for centuries, was dying. Charlie tried to heal him, brought him food, for the dragon could not move to hunt. Charlie thought up new medicines and remedies, excluded from society, attempting to heal the dragon. Some stayed the pain, allowing Giltwing to move, and to see the sun, but they were brief. Charlie spent 14 long years attempting to heal his friend. Giltwing promised to leave him his body after he died, as a thanks, but that didn't matter. Charlie, for once, didn't want someone to die.

On a dark night in 2014, Giltwing, alive for over eight hundred years, died, his last words 'Thank you', to Charlie. Charlie left the cave, and headed back into the world. But it had changed. Gone was the simple world of the internet and large phones that required batteries. He returned into a world of twitter and amazon, of pokemon and smartphones. A world he didn't understand, and struggles to, having been excluded from the world for fourteen years, most technology confuses him. He knows how to turn on a tv, and how to use a landline phone, but anything after that is confusing (but he is learning)

Charlie remembered a woman he had met, who, upon learning of his skills, offered him a position at a school called Starlight Academy. That was twenty five years ago. He wondered if the position was still open. After finding a way to contact the school, in early 2017, Charlie asked the headmistress if the position was still open. She said it was, and that her offer was still valid. He immediately accepted and boarded a boat to Manta Carlos...

Additional Information:
Skills:
Surgery - this is a skill rather than a power, but enough time sewing together bodies and you get pretty good at minor surgeries on living patients, such as reattatching limbs and such. No magic involved, just good with a needle and a bonesaw.

Arcane Knowledge:
Being old, and always wanting to learn, Charlie knows a lot about the magical creatures of the world, and can spot and categorize most types of undead and demonic creatures on sight. However, he cannot spot creatures using magic to mask their appearance or aura. It is pure book learning, like bird spotting, but for hellish abominations. This is not magical, this is simply knowing alot. In addition to arcane knowledge, he also knows a lot about the world, and speaks various languages. He's had a while to learn.

Other skills: he can speak almost every earthly language, play most instruments, and teach most subjects.

Apparent Age: Late twenties, early thirties
Gender: Male
Species: Undead: Lich
Height: 6’3”
Build: Skinny/Bony

Notable Features: Charlie has bright, almost glowing blue eyes with pale, but not deathly white skin. He dresses in what someone would think a professor would look like. Tweed jackets, waistcoats, and shirts, or jumpers. In his natural form (without a glamour) he is a skeleton, still wearing the same clothes, glowing with a blue light. In his eye sockets are blue orbs, and on his head is an old gold crown, which is attached to his skull, piercing through the bone.

Physical Quirks: Charlie has a strong British accent, from years of integration. In his glamoured form, Charlie's voice sounds like this (the guy on the left) but without his glamour, his voice becomes much deeper and creepier and sounds like this. He drinks a lot of tea. His glamour sometimes fails and you can see his skeletal form.

Power Summary: Charlie can raise undead, which obey him. When he dies, he comes back to life after a little while. He has a glamour, but it’s awful and breaks when he is in a heightened emotional state, or randomly. He can drain the life from things. He can make wierd portal things. He has a stone box on a skeletal spider that follows him around and is also a pocket dimension where he lives.
