Lucianne Lovejoy

Lucianne was running late, which was becoming somewhat of a trend. There had been a rush a little before one and before she knew it, it was 1:05 and she still hadn't clocked out yet. Now it was 1:20 and she was keeping up Jude, who hopefully was still waiting around for her and hadn't given up and left. It would have been a shame, really. He seemed like a nice guy. She could only hope that she wasn't making a terrible impression on him.

She rounded the corner and the facade of the Delphi came into site, a bright red brick building with emerald shutters and two, technically three, stories. Squinting against the sun, she held her hand up and waved at the figure she saw standing in front of the door.

Jude was not behind. Jude was on time, because he was the kind of person who was always on time. His dad had been pretty specific about that.

That said, he wasn't the person who was exiting the shop. Jude was inside, going through the shelves. He'd waited about five minutes outside, and then wondering if Lucianne was already inside, headed in. And now? Now he was letting Gil pick out a book or two, wandering down the stacks. Every so often he'd pick up a book, skim through the table of contents, and then put it back. Gil was picky, after all. The information had to be very high quality.

Oops. As it turned out, that person was not Jude. It was just another customer on their way out. Seeing as she was so late, she asked if he had, by chance, seen a young man by Jude's description in the shop. Relieved that he had, she hurried on inside, waving at Ithai as she entered before doubling back to ask where Jude had gone.

"Jude, are you there?" she called down an aisle.

Jude perked up at the sound of a familiar voice. Perfect memory made that sort of thing easy, and he plopped the book in his hand back on the shelf, heading back towards the front of the store before emerging from the stacks.

"Oh, you are here," Jude said, grinning after a few seconds. He didn't want to seem like oh, you kept me waiting, so he tried his best to... not.

He was trying not to come off as judgmental. He'd been told (more than once) that he often did, and he was trying to make a good impression.

"Busy at work?"

She smiled in embarrassment. "Sorry for being late, there was this family that came in and wanted eight different frappucinos. We only have one blender, so." That was honestly something she never wanted to do again. Ever. At least some of the frappes had been the same order so she could just double up with the blender. "I see you've been having fun without me, at least!"

"I'm a pretty big reader, so this was a nice place to meet," Jude admitted. "My room back at home is like... a bed. A desk. And then a bookshelf that's overflowing. I need to get a second one at this rate... or just stop buying books and rely on the library." School was keeping him busy at least.

"I used to be quite the reader myself," Lucianne mused. "Of course, I work six days a week now so my free time is woefully short. It's really too bad. There were some series I'd been meaning to hit up again. Maybe when we start hiring more help."

"But, you're a still a student, right?" she asked. "Are you in college? What do you study?"

"I had school," Jude admitted. "So that kept me busy. But, well, with Summer's blessing I don't actually sleep, so that's an extra eight hours to do with whatever I want."

College. She assumed he was in college, and that was... flattering? Definitely flattering. There was a hint of a blush on Jude's face, and he reached up, scratching at the back of his neck.

"Senior, actually," Jude admitted. He wasn't entirely clear on how old she was, but he was guessing... what, twenty one? "I haven't really decided what I want to do next year. Kind of playing it by ear, honestly."

"Oh. Oh!" She smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, I just assumed. It's not that you look old but you already speak like a college student honestly. At the very least, nobody should be mistaking you for a child." She screwed up her face. "I walk into restaurants and sometimes they still ask me if I want the kids' menu. It must be nice being tall," Lucianne teased.

Alright, the flattery was getting her everywhere. Jude was, no ifs, ands, or buts about it... very susceptible to flattery. Especially right then.

"I'm not really that tall," Jude said. "You should see my guardian. He's like... big. Built like a brick house, as they say." Angelo looked like a linebacker, and he was never going to be that big, to his intense frustration. "You think on the island people would be a bit more... aware of the fact that visible age doesn't mean much."
