"I guess that's true." She shrugged as she stood, her chair fondly instantly back into her ring. "You can assume anything on this island anymore, there are too many variables." She nodded to herself as she coughed a bit.
"It is rather late to be out," Ishikawa remarked, though he was at least assured that this person was probably exactly what they said they were. This was not the Forbidden Forest, he had to keep reminding himself. Theoretically, the woods were a great deal safer.
"That is naive," Ishikawa said, almost with a sigh. There was something laughably wrong about that statement because of all the places in the world, Manta Carlos. Safest place in the world or no, it was really only safe so long as people stayed within certain guidelines. "Familiarity does not necessarily equate to safety."
"Yeah, that's true." She half smiled at his statement. "But at the same time, I do not feel the need to hide. I mean if I get injured or die, it's not like someone from this island couldn't help me?" That too was naive, but she didn't really care. "I see no need to have fear, considering all the people that could, and haven't killed me."
There was something eerily familiar about her words. As he entered a small clearing -the size of a closet at most- he paused. "There are some things that even the islanders cannot do. I would not make it a point to rely on them that much."
"You are right, as I wouldn't rely on anyone but myself to take care of me really." She smirked as she entered a clearing, laying eyes on the voice she had been talking to. "But some people on this island are nicer than others, priest."
Ishikawa took quick note of the person who arrived, and of the fact that she did indeed seem to be a comparatively normal human. She was also taller than he was, a fact that he quietly found galling.
"I teach high school students," Ishikawa deadpanned. "I would not know."
She almost laughed out loud when the man in front of her was short. Not overly short, but there was a difference. "Maybe you should explore more then, so that you can see all the different types of people."
"I prefer solitude," Ishikawa said, which was a step down from the cliched I work alone. Even if that was true. He waited exactly one beat before continuing, "Why are you wandering so late?"
