In his bundle of blankets, Wei found himself curling as best he could against Arren, similarly to how a young monkey would curl against their parent for safety. He could feel Arren shifting on the bed into a more comfortable position and Wei let out a soft yawn. He hadn't managed to make it to deep sleep before his nightmare kicked him out of sleep, so he was oh so, so tired.

The blankets were loosening around his body and the small monkey stretched out a bit, sleepily wrapping his tail around Arren's wrist as he turned to look up at him.

His eyes were cloudy and clearly tired from crying and not actually sleeping, but something seemed to be keeping him from falling back into sleep. Probably the same thing that had been keeping him from sleeping unless he was totally exhausted. Like the plague he avoided sleep.

The small student's aversion was only compounded now that Arren had promised to stay with him. He didn't want to scream in the night and wake him up.

He blinked in surprise as he felt the furry appendage curl around his wrist, though only offered a soft smile when he met Wei's exhausted gaze. His concern reared its head again at the look he was getting, and bent his head down to nuzzle his cheek against Wei's.

Yup. He was much too used to comforting an easily affectionate boy who had the instincts of a wolf cub.

"Please sleep, Mr. Wei. I will help you if you wish, using my magic to ward away any unpleasant dreams, but only with your permission." He whispered during a lull in his lullaby, then picked up the humming again, wine-red gaze watching Wei in an odd jumble of emotions-- fondness, concern, worry, care.

{Sorry for the short post ;;;; }

Wei returned Arren's smile half-heartedly at best, but when he felt the doctor nuzzle his cheek, he tried to follow his retreating face to return the nuzzles. The sides of his face were somewhat furry--due to his monkey genes--but given that despite his exhaustion he was clean, it felt sort of like nuzzling a cat or a gerbil or any other household pet. Part of him was happy that he'd chosen today to get himself tossed into the infirmary, because tonight seemed to be the only time that he was the only person in the infirmary in need of aid.

He severely doubted that anything this comforting would have happened if there were other students laying about who could potentially see and tell.

"Please sleep, Mr. Wei. I will help you if you wish, using my magic to ward away any unpleasant dreams, but only with your permission."

A spell to help him sleep? If only he'd learned about such a thing before... Perhaps he would have to come to the infirmary more often if Arren could offer magically altered sleep to keep bad dreams away. The monkey nodded slowly, consenting to Arren using his magic on him directly. Anything to be free of nightmares. Anything at all.

"Please," he murmured, his voice soft and heavy with the drizzlings of sleep. "Please do...."

Arren waited patiently for the boy's answer, willing to give him his time to sort out his decision. Considering the clues from Wei's all-to-frequent visits to the Infirmary, the state Arren had found him in earlier, and the comfort Wei was lapping up, it came as no surprise to the wizard when the little monkey mumbled his consent.

Though his humming continued, the soft song became filled with words of power, words meant to invoke good dreams and safe sleep, to replace the harmless ones of the lullaby.

Once, Arren's mentor had brought him to a small community of practitioners of their specific type of magic; wizard was a broad term, and many magics were specialized and very particular. The community consisted of about seven families, and while there, Arren had learned a thing or two about spells meant to be used by parents.

The one he would be using to help Wei was one of them.

As he concentrated his will into the words, the air seemed to thicken as his magic began to react, dancing around the pair like an eager puppy waiting for a command. It had taken Arren years to learn how to shape his magic in such a way, but it made the power easier to utilize.

He knew there was a slight chance it wouldn't work-- nightmares brought about by malicious magic would not be as affected and needed to be fought directly, for example-- but, for Wei's sake, he hoped it did.

Eventually, his murmuring died down back into the simple lullaby, though the air still shimmered with Arren's magic. Wei's dreams should remain peaceful for the night, and in the event that even that wasn't possible, then his slumber would remain dreamless. Either way, Wei would be protected while Arren was there.

The little monkey remained curled up against Arren, listening to his humming, suddenly feeling the air around them being filled with words of power instead of the hollow wordlessness of his hum that simply sounded like magic despite possessing none. It seemed to thicken and congeal in a way the felt like it would be hard to inhale, but of course it was no harder to breathe than it had been before.

If he had been paying close attention to the words and the magic even he would have been able to sense the nature of the magic, a friendly thing that was eager to please like a small yappy dog more than anything, and it comforted him a little. But Wei was tired, emotionally drained and comfortable and wanted noting more than to just sleep.

He yawned loudly, showing long sharp canines, before closing his mouth with an audible 'clack' noise. Obviously Wei wasn't trying to intimidate Arren or anything--he simply didn't have the presence of mind to try and yawn in a way that would hide his teeth, like he normally did. People were often ignorant of exactly how large a monkey's teeth really were. The boy nuzzled against Arren as the tension started to melt from his legs, then his tummy and then his chest and shoulders. His neck came last, and soon the wizard was holding on to a limp monkey, his mouth open a little and soft breath passing by his lips.

He'd fallen asleep again, hopefully for the rest of the night this time.

Arren simply continued his lullaby, paying no heed to the surprisingly frightening image Wei had made. He'd seen plenty of mouthfuls of sharpened teeth in his fairly long life-- both Jace and Ace's teeth were somewhat different than normal--, and Wei didn't seem like the type to purposefully use them to intimidate. Maybe if he felt threatened, but the little monkey boy always seemed so harmlessly sweet, if a bit overworked, to Arren. Regardless, he subtly began cuddling the little monkey as he felt the boy relaxing in his embrace, his humming trailing off when he was certain that Wei was completely asleep.

He did, however, remain awake himself the whole night. He wanted to make sure that he would be able to react quickly and efficiently on the off chance his spell didn't work and Wei had another nightmare. That odd part of him didn't like the thought of Wei suffering anymore, and while he knew he shouldn't be so attached to a student-- an underage student no less!— he couldn't help it.

And so, he held Wei tightly, cuddling and nuzzling whenever he could, and waited the night out.

For the first time without passing out from exhaustion, Wei slept peacefully.

He moved very little during the night, only shifting slightly to make himself more comfortable, or to snuggle closer to Arren. In his restful state he thought of the wizard as nothing more than a warm, comforting presence that seemed to envelop him, like a safe blanket. He'd become an island of comfort.

Subconsciously the small monkey wrapped his tail around Arren's arm, and once his tail was sufficiently occupied he slept much better, and stopped fidgeting.

When morning came, Wei awoke early, just as the sun tinted the sky a reddish orange.

He let out a low groan, knuckling his eyes to rub out the sleep.

"Mnnng...." he groaned. He felt well rested, but at the same time, his head was killing him. "Doctor... King?"
