Emily just whined a little when faced with his enthusiasm. She licked her lips a little, tasting his mood lighten up after she agreed. Why would someone be so excited about fighting? It didn't make sense, and now she had to go first. She was a therapist! She didn't want to hurt people!

"I-I think the rule w-w-with girls is supposed to be y-you don't fight them..." She really didn't want to do this, but if he wasn't going to go away until she fought him, then... She balled up a fist and flailed it at his chest. There wasn't much force behind it though because she didn't want to hurt him even if he was creepy.

"Yeah, but people also go on about gender equality a lot," Elias pointed out. "If I only fought guys, then wouldn't that be looking down on the girls who could beat me up really easily?" It made sense to Elias that, in order to not be a hypocrite, he therefore needed to fight everybody he met.

"I mean, I've got two sisters of my own and they would both be pretty angry with me if I thought they were weak or something. Iria's the tomboy and Jacinta's the girly one. But even Jacinta would give me a few whacks if I refused to do something just because she's a girl." He hummed a bit before saying, "So, um, yeah?"

Emily just backed up a little when her attack was completely ignored siffling ever so slightly though not crying just yet. "You care a l-lot about equality for s-someone who doesn't care i-i-if someone wants to fight o-or not..." Like me!

Em decided her words probably weren't going to get through Elias' thick skull, so she steeled herself, bit her lip a little to keep from crying, and threw her fist at his face. Lei had suggested she go for the face, maybe it would work.

To be perfectly honest, Elias really hadn't noticed her first punch when it connected. He was too busy thinking things over, as weird as that sounded. It was just a fact of life that yes, sometimes Elias actually thought. This happened whenever he ran into something that he couldn't explain in a completely optimistic and idealistic light, or when said light clashed with reality. Or when it didn't seem to clash at all to him but it did to other people.

However, he did notice the sensation of being punched just a few seconds after it happened, a faint "Ah" slipping past his lips before another punch hit him squarely in the face. It didn't hurt -much- but it did make him clench his eyes for a moment and when they opened again, he blinked slowly.

"Huh? Oh yeah, but I can't actually hurt you, though," Elias said, backtracking with a frown. "I said that before, I think. Also, I think you pull your punches just a bit towards the end there. You shouldn't be putting all your weight into it, so that's good, but you could probably do with a bit more force."

This guy was basically forcing Emily to fight him, ignored her first punch, and now he was giving her advice?! She wasn't supposed to need to do things like this. She was supposed to be having a nice day off, just enjoying the weather and the world between the leather binding of her book.

Nope. That was it. Em's watered up and tears began falling down her cheeks as she tried to hold back the sobs only to have a strangled noise escape instead. She wanted to help people, not hurt them. Her eyes locked on Elias' face. Did he really take so much enjoyment from this, harassing women.

The worst part was she wanted to feel like he was misguided or something. She searched for any hint of remorse even while she took a couple small, timid steps backwards. Then her own feeling of distress hit her tongue and it was too much for her to even be there anymore. There was a sniffle, and then she had turned and bolted away from Elias, still trying to keep from sobbing, and leaving her book behind.

For a moment, Elias just stared at the retreating girl in distress, utterly floored by her reaction. He wasn't being mean, was he? He had thought he been doing so well following his godmother's suggestions on how to deal with girls. Hesitating for just a moment out of pure confusion, he quickly began running after her, stopping just a moment to pick up her book.

"H-hey, wait! You forgot your book!"

Emily just ran, she didn't know where she was going to go or what to do if he decided to chase her. Really, she probably should have just told him to leave, or called the police, or screamed or something. She wasn't thinking clearly, she just knew she didn't want to hurt Elias, or have him try to hurt her.

It wasn't Elias that stopped her, but her book. She hesitated when he brought up her book, halting her sprint and looking back at him. She had only made it about halfway through the story, and it was such a shame to lose a book. Sure she could have just bought another copy, but she wasn't thinking rationally at this point.

So instead of continuing to run, Em just dodged behind a tree, peeking out at Elias as he caught up to her. There was an awkward moment where they just kind of stared at each other while Em sniffled, keeping the tree between them. After a little bit, she just timidly put her hand out. "...... G... G-Give it... H-Here..."

Just standing there and staring was awkward and every second of silence just made Elias feel like a massive creep. The worst part was that he didn't know why. At her demand, he simply nodded and was fully prepared to just hand the book over just so she would't cry. But he hesitated right on the last moment, hand already half-extended outwards. Not enough for her to simply take it and leave, but not enough for him to be able to say that he wasn't trying to offer it back.

"Wait, wait," he said, trying again to take a few massive mental steps back. "I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what's going on right now. Can you please explain?" And Elias being Elias, had absolutely no trace of sarcasm in his voice because the request was utterly genuine. "I kind of had the impression that if you came to this school, you kind of had to learn how to fight things. And godmother gave me a template to work off of but it doesn't seem to be holding up that well right now. So um." He scratched the back of his head with his free hand. "Uh, yeah, I'm pretty lost right now."

Just when Emily thought she might actually just get out of this without much more, Elias retracted the book again. Emily face fell into despair and disbelief as he continued to speak to her. tears just began to flow freely from her eyes.

"Wh-Wh-What? A-A-Are you d-d-d-dense?!" Her breath hitched a little, her stutter getting worse as she became agitated. "I-I-I alr-ready told you I d-don't w-w-want to fight, but you m-made me a-a-anyway...! N-Not even everyone H-Here ch-ch-chose to come h-here, let alone kn-kn-know how to f-f-fight. O-O-O-Or want t-to!"

At this point she just decided to let him keep the book and suffer the consequences. She turned to begin running again, but didn't even manage a full step before falling to her knees, crippled by her own emotions. "... *hic* ... Wh-What do y-you want?... Do you j-just like w-w-watching people s-suffer?..."

Well. Elias definitely felt like a jerk right then. He wasn't used to dealing with crying girls, and even though he knew most of the tears his sisters showed him were almost always crocodile ones, he couldn't even deal with them straight. And that was with people he was already familiar with. Lump him with a total stranger from off the street and he was just plain stuck.

Awkwardly and feeling very much like an intruder, he squatted down next to her. "I think there's some kind of a misunderstanding going on," he said, already fumbling words a bit. "Er, more of on my side than yours. Much more." Emphatically, he added, "I'm not very bright, everybody says so and my grades really reflect that. I don't understand much of this higher thinking stuff very well so people always need to take some time and lay it out for me." Maybe taking jabs at himself would work? It wasn't like they weren't true anyways.

"Of course, I don't like to see people suffer." He wasn't even angry about the implication that he did, just awfully puzzled where she got the conclusion from. "But that's why I need to fight them. Then I can see how much my friends can take before I need to start getting worried. Sometimes people go on about fighting their own battles but that really makes the people around them pretty worried about them. Gotta find the balance between suffocating a person and giving them distance, you know. It's hard and I'm just dumb about these things. So. Maybe it's not the best way but nobody else has really given me another."

"And, I don't know. I really can't hurt anything at all. People think I'm joking and then I'll need somebody to staple my essays together for class because that would be hurting the paper. I think." Elias thought for a moment. "It's weird, it really is, but some people get comfortable with the idea. And, uh, I have no idea where I was going with that, sorry."
