Name: The Lonelies (Singular; A Lonely)
Age: Lifespan seems to be somewhere around 3 - 5 years, though natural death is rare. They may very well be immortal as far as age is concerned.
Birthday: N/A
Gender: Male or Female
Category: NPC(Type of Creature).
Resources: None of their own. Survive off of things scavenged in the wild or provided by an owner.
Appearance Description:
The height of the Lonelies can vary anywhere from a runt at 4", to an elder of 1' 6". Weight ranges from 5 to 60 lbs approximately. Their eyes are always dark colored, but seem to have a limitless spectrum they might be tinted. A dense Fur covers their bodies excluding the ends of their limbs and their cap. Every Lonely also bares one or two small patches of white fur just below and to the outside of they're eyes which resemble teardrops.
The Lonelies most distinctive features are their cap and their tail. Their cap is a malleable shell made from several chitinous plates they develop after birth. They can somehow manipulate these plates to flare the cap into various oblong shapes. It may be possible to remove the cap, but no suitable subject has been obtained for testing. Removing the cap would also endanger the Lonely should it find it's way back into the wild.
Their tail is a long, cord-like extension ending in a heart shaped, fluffy bit. Their tale is very important to the Lonelies, and they can be seen carrying the end around with them.
The differences between the male and female Lonelies can be subtle at a distance, but should be obvious when observed closely. The coloration varies between the two. Males bare a pale yellow coloration to their fur, the ends of their tails bare traces of black,(various patterns have been observed,) and their caps are often a dull, dark brown. Females bare a pinkish tint to their fur, their tails grow into a darker red at the end,(again, various patterns,) and most often have a shiny greyish cap. The female's cap is also thicker and more rounded then a males, and many of the males bare a variety of horn-like protrusions from their caps even though aggression is rarely observed.
Personality Description:
Lonelies are fickle creatures. They can switch from very social, friendly attitudes to spurning, cold-shoulder tactics and vice-versa for what seem to be trivial reasons. These changes in mannerisms seem to be most drastic between each other. In regards to other creatures, if a lonely senses danger from a creature it will most often flee and hide, but if the creature is neutral or friendly towards them they are content to ignore it and will interact with it if they feel like it.
Lonelies seem able to communicate, and to some extent converse, with each other. They're language is a combination of body language and mews and squeaks most comparable to a cat, "Nyum", "Minew", and "Nyew" are all observed noises. It seems to be hard for the Lonelies to interact with each other for long periods of time, hence their name. At the same time however, they seem to crave company. There have been many occurrences where one Lonely will attempt to flee from another, and the other will desperately chase after them.
There are a few mating events that have been observed. The ritual seems to be, after one Lonely has decided on a mate, they will give their tale to their partner. If it is denied the partner simply drops the tail and the initiator picks it back up and runs off, shunning company for several days. If it is excepted, the partner gives their tail to the initiator. They then travel together like this for several weeks until the litter of sads(baby Lonelies) are born. After the birth, the parents return their tails to each other, but travel with the sads until they are strong enough to be on their own.
In the event that a Lonely's tail is severed, the tuft at the end begins to unravel, splitting from a single heart shape down the center into two mostly separate tufts. The Lonely will attempt to recover the section of tail in the event that it can be. Any Lonely with a severed tail will amble around aimlessly in a depressed state until they are either killed or they die, the depression usually kills them before even 3 days pass. This may be due to the importance the tail plays in the mating ritual, but it is also possible that the Lonelies hold some kind of psychic link with their tails. attempts with reattaching the tail may yield results in restoring the Lonely to survivability.
Active Abilities:
Defensive Cap: The Lonelies bare a cap of chitinous plates that they can flare out as a defensive shield. The plates develop as the Lonely grows, so this is more effective the older the Lonely is. The cap is decently durable, but it can still be pierced given enough force.
Power Mimicry: Lonelies that have developed a bond with an individual with powers of a magical or supernatural nature have been noted to develop abilities of a similar nature. The powers are diminished in a such a manner that there are no observed cases of anything that would be able to cause harm to another entity or perminantly effect their environment. The bonding period is placed at no less then a week with moderate levels of contact with the Lonely. The Lonelies also seem to lose the mimicked ability if the powered individual is away from them for a similar amount of time.
Passive Abilities:
Bouncy: The body of a Lonely is firm but pliable. This allows them to absorb more shock from blows dealt to them. They can also bounce up to about 2 1/2 times their height if they wish to, and can squeeze themselves through any gap they can get their cap through. Unfortunately, this also means that if a Lonely isn't dug in to receive the blow, it'll go tumbling in whatever direction it is hit and won't be able to stop itself.
Ridiculous Stamina: Lonelies have what seems to be an unlimited pool of stamina, able to run quickly and pretty much indefinitely if they have momentum. However, they tend to trip, and once they come to a stop (or actually do run out of energy) the are completely tuckered out and more often then not just fall asleep after several minutes of heavy breathing.
