For her to be in such a condition for so long, it made Stross wonder if there were people that actually tried. What made them fail? What made them give up on a chance to discover something better or even better than that, a hidden power? The otherworld was a mystery Stross lived with everyday. Even if this was a whole new level of it, the scientist welcomed the challenge. He didn’t want to just ‘try’, he wanted to succeed even if it meant locking her up! Well…Hopefully it wouldn’t come down to that. Kidnapping was too troublesome and there was always that one dummkopf that actually walked around and asked questions rather than just leaving it with the police. He had to be careful and keep her hopes up. Right now, he could see he was doing just that and it made him smile…gently of course! If only it wasn’t in his nature to be downright creepy…

”Zhen it iz settled! Zhere is no such zhing is ‘trying’, mein fraulein! We vhill figure zhis out togezza! BUT!” He leaned in close, a finger raised as he announced, ”On vun condition. You must tell me everyzhing…und I mean everyzhing. Ve must research every possibility!” Somehow…he felt he was going to be in for a long-winded explanation. Oh well, it was all for science!

Yang Ji Hye

One, two, and Ji Hye was utterly lost down the rabbit hole called Trust. Wanting to be able to believe in somebody, she had reached the point where she could ignore all other warning signs. And anyways, she figured distantly, having a human constantly prodding her for information was no different from what the spirits did on a regular basis. Only, there was only one of the Doctor and she doubted he would follow her everywhere. People, after all, had to sleep at some time. It already was an improvement.

And though that creepy air around the man still persisted, what most people would have interpreted as a clear sign to run away as far as possible, Ji Hye merely accepted as a fact of life. It would have been kind of hypocritical of her to judge somebody just off of that one aspect. Personally, too, the girl found this brand of creepiness strangely reassuring now that she was beginning to get used to it. In general, creepiness was like this constant undercurrent that she could always expect to be there if she looked for it. Prior experience had also shown her that the creepiest people were also the ones who had the most skill and information. That was just how it was in this section of the supernatural. Normalcy was absurd.

"Um, I don't know where I'm supposed to start." The explanation had changed so many times over the years depending on her emotional state that she wasn't sure how she was supposed to tell it now. Every one of those times had been the truth, of course, but sometimes she put more emphasis on things and sometimes she left things out. Which, the girl supposed, was a pretty normal way of going about it. It was just so confusing trying to pick out what parts were the really important ones when so much had happened. "Um, I don't think it's possible to fit everything in right now."

But already in fear of disappointing the Doctor, she made an attempt. "Like I said, um, my mother's side had lots of miko and my father's was unlucky. There's a power in both sides, though, called Dark Sight. It lets us see natural spirits which haven't manifested on the physical plane. Ah. Sorry, maybe you don't know what that means?" She fidgeted, hoping that she didn't sound condescending or anything but this was usually the point where confusion started.

"The physical plane is the one that normal people are on. The spiritual plane is a general one that goes parallel on top of it. And then there's a bunch of sub planes in between, too. If you have Dark Sight or something like it, you'll be able to see all of the planes between and including the two. Since the plane for deceased spirits is above the one for natural spirits, I can't see any ghosts. The divine plane is the highest one, so I can't see anything from there either. But sometimes they shift down to the spiritual plane so I can." Ji Hye clasped her hands together, anxiously. "D-does this make any sense? S-sorry."

The explanation was short and sweet, just the way he liked it right now because the mausoleum they were holed up in was cold and he was getting a bit claustrophobic. That's why he refused to have a coffin when he was dead. Why it mattered what his corpse was in when he was dead...don't even ask.

But he pretty much understood it, nodding at the proper moments and taking notes inside his head. She was very well educated in this particular subject and that was very pleasing and impressive. He hated to admit it, but her talents far surpassed his in a sense that the spirits she saw were actually useful. This necessarily wasn't a bad thing simply because there had to be a way to obtain such a power. There had to be a way to control said spirits...What if he could strengthen his own power? What if he could raise the dead? WHAT IF HE COULD REANIMATE CORPSES AND--

Poor Ji Hye probably saw the flush look on his cheeks while he sat there for a moment, most likely leaving her in a state of awkwardness as he indulged in his power-hungry fantasies. If he could raise the dead and control them with his own hands...

He believed this girl was the key to it all!

Stross, you're doing it again...

Emily snapped him out of his delight and he caught himself from biting his lip open. It was like a wet dream that had the possibility of coming true. While ordinary schwinehunds dreamed about schtoopid things like money, cars, and women, Stross dreamed of the day he could finally get the upper hand on society. "Ach! Ja, ja! Zhat vas gut, Frau Ji," That was enough for now. Both he and Emily knew that he was already creeping the girl out. It was time to freshen himself up on some good ol' research. Besides, it was cold and he was sure that his little precious Ji Hye was cold. He didn't want her getting sick! "I vill do some research und contact you vhen I haff somezhing," he took out his pocketbook and hastily scribbled his number down. He could feel Emily practically breathing down his neck.

"I never thought i'd die to see the day you giving your number out to a girl!" she snorted as Stross muttered some very unpleasant things in german about her parentage before tearing off the sheet and giving it to Ji Hye.

"Oh! You better take that back Stross that wasn't very nice!

Crap. He forgot that she too understood German. He only snickered and rubbed his hands together, tuning out Emily's stream of ranting. He thrusted the notebook into Ji Hye's hands. Obviously he wouldn't be able to contact her if she didn't give him anything. Then again, there was a big possibility she went to the Academy. He could just pose as her doctor and find her there if she became stubborn.

"Rrrrgh! You're such a creep!"

Yang Ji Hye

Um, did I say something weird? Ji Hye was sure that she had said something weird; why else would the Doctor have such a strange, flushed look on his face? Wait, but then again, he had already been acting kind of weird throughout their entire meeting. Maybe it was just her, then. Often times, she just worried about the slightest things and there was no stopping her anxiety at all. He’s probably thinking really hard about how this stuff works. It was complicated material so that was completely, utterly, totally understandable.

Luckily for Stross, Ji Hye was dead set on putting everything in her head in his favor.

“Um, okay, then! I-I guess I’ll call you if anything new comes up then,” she said as she took the sheet from him. It was a bit weird to be taking a phone number from somebody; Ji Hye didn’t think she had ever exchanged information with anybody ever. Except for Mr. Wong but he was her counselor so in her mind, it kind of went into a different category. On the same note, though, then maybe the Doctor should go into that same category.

When she was given the notebook, she momentarily came to a blank. Since she didn’t have a cellphone, there wasn’t much to write down. First, she wrote down where she lived on campus. But it seemed so small and insignificant on the paper that she went ahead and wrote down her schedule, too. There. It looked so much better now.

"I-is this okay?"

"Ah ja, perfect!" he exclaimed and took the little notebook, stuffing it back into his jacket. In a sense, maybe he sort of was her doctor now. After all, he was trying to fix her problem! Even if it wasn't..really...Physical or psychological. Okay, maybe it might be a bit of both considering he had to tamper with a lot of supernatural things--even someone's soul if he had to go that far with it. It was strange how she so easily put her trust into him. Was he that convincing? He honestly didn't think so, but maybe it was perhaps that Ji Hye was really this cut-off from society. Friends? He wasn't so sure about that either. It then occurred to him that Ji Hye was basically putting her life into his hands. Not many people knew about this particular field of research or if they did, they didn't know that much about it. People didn't know that with just a simple mistake, A soul could be damaged forever. Then again, if people such as himself knew what they were doing...

The possibilities could be endless. This girl was his everything.

"Zhen I vhill come und see you in a few days! Ve can talk ova' coffe und Struselschecken! How does zhat sound!?" Mein Gott! He was getting so excited! He grabbed up her hands with glee and squeezed! "Excellent!" He exclaimed before she could utter a word and released her hands. With a snap of his fingers, the barrier disappeared and two white little whisps appeared floating about his frame. There was no doubt in his mind that the girl's company would be very displeased that she had been taken for so long. He opened up the door and smiled, knowing that starting tonight, his research was going to be taken to a new level.

"Auf Wiedersehen!" he chuckled and left the mausoleum, the creepy doctor 'disappearing' into the night.

Yang Ji Hye

"Um, you're welcome?" Her voice came out as a whisper as she stared at the man. It didn't seem as if he had heard her and immediately, she felt embarrassed that she had even tried. When the ward came down, Ji Hye felt the chains begin to move around more lively, as was the norm. They had probably already been moving like that ever since she and the Doctor had started talking but all of those motions had been turned so sluggish by the barrier that now she felt a little taken aback at their sudden energy.

Dazed, she watched as Doctor Leonhart (wisely) fled the area before any spirits could get to him. By the way the chains were tugging at her, it seemed like they were all aware that the ward had vanished. They were bound to be curious about what had happened. One spirit, she could handle, but several all at once? On a night when they were feeding? No no no no no! That was suicide! Hurriedly, Ji Hye exited the mausoleum. She could still faintly see the Doctor as he made his escape but at least, he was heading in the opposite direction from which she felt the spirits stirring from.

Which meant. She would have to face them alone, then.

Well, I guess it's nothing I'm not already used to.
