"It's well and good that you want to roam the earth. But when you find what truly calls to you, you will want to plant your feet and settle. That day will come... just wait, and take life one day at a time."

Name: Dr. Paul "The Pain Train" Coltrane, Ph. D. in Applied Physics
Age: 47
Birthday: April 17, 1969
Gender: Male
Class: College (Professor)
Subject/Work: Physics (Applied Physics mostly but takes over for other physics classes as needed.) Also acts as coach for the Starlight Academy Collegiate Boxing team, a sub-club in the Sports Club.

Appearance Description: Standing at a respectable six feet and a half, Dr. Coltrane's brown skin, toned muscles, bald head and graying mustache and beard give him a rather rugged appearance. This is offset by his good-natured eyes sitting behind a pair of round spectacles, and his choice in clothing which is usually either a choice or a mix between tweed and plaid.

Oftentimes he has some sort of covering for his hands, which vary from cotton handwraps to wool gloves. These cover up some older scars from his more physical days.

Personality Description: Dr. Coltrane is that person who strikes most as the father they either never had or imagine when thinking of a theoretical recipient for a World's Best Dad mug. Very friendly and approachable, with a penchant for raucuous laughter and bad jokes (that he acknowledges are bad but keep on making anyway), he comes off as a warm and fuzzy teddy bear who simply cannot be angry.

He can be angry though, but he keeps himself in check. This is a very rare occurrence, what with his general kindness, willingness to forgive, and calming presence.

Powers:
Main: Walk With Me In Peace
Dr. Coltrane has a calming presence. Literally. Being in his vicinity or being able to perceive him with any of one's senses gives a modicum of calm, deeper and stronger the more one wishes for it in their heart. The closer one is and the more one can perceive him, the more this power takes effect. It does not affect people with mental shields, or those so sufficiently absorbed in an emotion - blinding rage, for instance.

Calmness manifests differently in people. For some, it is a blissful silence, and for others it is a loosening of their tense lips. Whatever form it may take, most seek some degree of calm in their lives.

Activated Ability: Settle Down, My Child
Dr. Coltrane's voice has a bit of an anesthetic effect when he is under great emotional stress or pressure. When his ability triggers fully, simply hearing his voice robs one of their willpower and most any emotion, leaving behind a sense of dazed contentment. This effect lasts until the affected lose consciousness and wake up after.

This is not an immediately acting ability - at first it is weak, as if it were an afterthought at the back of one's head. However, the longer one listens, the more his words seem to find purchase and dig away at one's frustrations. His voice when in this state can pierce through intense emotions and cause calm, as well as pierce mental shields, as long as he is allowed to speak to those with them long enough.

Biography:

Dr. Paul Coltrane was just a child with an immense - some would even say obscene - fascination for the sciences. From an early point in his life, he'd devoted himself to understanding the world around him. Even as his country stayed divided, he simply lived and learned.

He and his family were able to escape East Germany sometime almost a decade before the wall came tumbling down. Outside that regime and in the wealthier half of Germany, Paul managed to pursue his true calling. At the same time, he picked up a bit of a penchant for brawling as an unruly child, which became his boxing after age tempered his temper.

Though his power came to light relatively early on, and while he was contacted by Starlight Academy early on, he refused the call. To him, his power was but some minor part of him, no more significant than a few of his prized possessions. Electing to finish first his studies, he stayed in the now-reunified Germany.

His family didn't have much money, only having crossed the wall through sheer luck and minor help from his calming presence easing negotiations. Paul found a way to help in the form of boxing, becoming a prize fighter on nights after class. For years he stayed in the ring, eventually gaining his popular title of "The Pain Train". He did get far - far enough to have had a career on the global stage had he chosen to - but there were bigger matters to attend to. As one of his professors who saw him in the ring said, "Kid's got a fierce hook... but I think the only thing on his mind when he throws that is the physics behind it."

Later on, after quite a few years, Paul Coltrane finally added the word Doctor to his name after achieving a Ph.D in Applied Physics. He remembered the offer long ago, and then followed up to apply again, this time as a professor.

Additional Information: For such a fatherly person, Dr. Coltrane neither has any children or any plans to have children.

He likes stout.
