-Dressed in overly large clothing, all spares from random people
-Walks barefoot
-Stands five feet flat, can change when shifting into tree form
-Weighs roughly 250 pounds thanks to all the (wood) fiber
Personality Description: A tree isn't particularly known for social skill. Ran is no different. With all the subtlety of a sequoia she shambles her way through her turgid social existence. Blunt, slow on the uptake, slow of speech, and slow to act, Ran nevertheless hides great untapped intelligence beneath. Most of her ineptitude stems from inexperience, and she has no such issues when it comes to more objective conundrums such as academics and basic survival.
Ran, socially, is a blank canvas. She learns mainly by mimicry, as no one teaches her - she however is very quick to learn if taught properly. As a tree, her patience is infinite, as she has yet to develop an idea of where her lines lie. She will fight to preserve herself, but it is never done with malice, nor does she harbor grudges.
In a vacuum, she is lethargic, almost sedentary, driven only by a weak instinct of discovery. Exploration of the new world drives her to seek out things beyond her comfort zone, if only so she may be prepared to handle them in the future.
Species Abilities:
Oakenform - As a tree, Ran is naturally resilient. She can withstand physical stress and possesses the physical strength roughly six times the average for her size, as though her mass were that of a full-grown tree. As a tree, she is prone to fire, floats in water, gets soft if left soaking for a long time, and smells great when burnt or smoked.
She suffocates when exposed to water for too long, regardless of whether or not it actually enters her respiratory system, cracks and snaps if bent too rapidly, and weakens after a period of no sunlight.
She also can assume the form of a tree if she wishes, rooting herself in place and slowly covering herself with tree matter, until she becomes a fully grown oak. Both going into and leaving this form take a full day.
One With Nature - As a dryad, Ran is innately given command over nature. She can communicate with non-sapient animals and plants, command them to act certain ways that does not go against their own self-preservation instincts, and can force them to do certain things that they normally would not (such as bending a tree beyond its capabilities, or ordering a small critter into the nest of a predator), but to do so will instantly sever her connection with that creature and ability to communicate and interact with them after the deed is done.
Powers:
Fatigue Druidess - Ran has a unique aura to her that invokes the lethargy of her own millennia of gestation. In her presence, emotions calm, drives and desires weaken, and the contentment of rest increases greatly. The effect is subtle at first, and automatically affects anyone within a hundred and twenty feet of her. The effect itself ramps up the longer one is exposed to it, eventually becoming an anaesthetic and sedative effect after half a day worth of exposure. At that point, all sensation is dulled.
The effect wears off at a rate dependent on the intensity of the effect but it is quick, taking ten minutes without exposure at most.
Subpower: Song of the Dryads - The aura that surrounds Ran is a passive effect that requires no input. However, Ran can, should she wish to, invoke it at will with a song. All those who hear it are instantly subjected to the full effect of her aura, as if they had been exposed to it for their entire lives. While these effects only last as long as the song lasts, it is an extreme effect - all bodily functions slow to the minimum they require to maintain life, all emotion is dulled to the point of ennui, and all mental activity beyond that which drives essential body processes stops.
Where her aura itself cannot be resisted, the song can. Arcane or anti-arcane protection will prevent the effects of the song. So will resistance to magic, and so will deafness and any other condition that completely blocks out the song from the senses.
Subpower: Primal Vigor - Ran's aura can also be inverted by a special dance that she knows only by instinct. All who witness the dance are filled with vigor, causing the inverse of what her aura does. Drives and desires flare, inhibitions weaken, energy and agitation spikes, and mental activity rises greatly.
Similar to her song, the effects of the dance can also be resisted. Arcane or anti-arcane protection will prevent the effects of the dance. So will resistance to magic, and so will blindnessand any other condition that completely blocks out the song from the senses.
Biography: In a time of forgotten people, a small seedling was planted with the best that their arcane arts could offer. This seedling was meant to grow into a great tree that could then become their home. They would carve it open, and live within it for generations.
The seedling knew its quest, and yet, it also knew that it had no intention to accomplish it. Desiring its own survival, and yet mandated to obey, it had to find a different way out.
The seedling grew, but refused to break the surface of the ground. With the enchantments on it, it bound itself to the roots of the forest, drawing nutrition from them. Above ground, winter struck, and the weakened forest died. The men who planted the seedling cursed it, and yet there was nothing they could do save for wasting away in the snow.
Unbound to its dead masters and having consumed them, the seedling let itself grow. But the curse rotted away at it, and to save itself, it cut everything off from the last untainted growth and let the rest die.
So small and fragile was the remnant that it took many millennia for it to grow back into shape, and from there its growth sped up. As the world above it evolved, so did it. It developed intelligence, and regained its desire to live.
Eventually, the piece of land that it was in found itself blasted away by volcanic eruption, and floated across the sea for a long time. As it drifted, it learned more of what now ruled the world, and mimicked their form.
Thus it was that Ran was found on the coast of Manta Carlos.
