It wasn’t even necessary to get in front of the cute bakery to notice the sweet smell of the freshly bakes cupcakes that could be seen through the glass, resting inside the shop. You could find whatever kind of cupcakes you could think of, from the traditional chocolate and vanilla, to fairly exotic and fancy ones. The designs were always colorful and there weren’t two cupcakes that were the same.

On the back of the shop you could see the counter, full of other kinds of baked goods, and right behind it several machines for coffee, milk, hot chocolate and other kinds of drinks, plus a special machine that gave the month’s specials, in this case drinks related to Christmas and all this stuff. Even the whole place had been carefully decorated so it was fitting with the festivities.

On the counter, with a cheshire cat smile, was sitting the owner of the place.

Oliver looked at his shop, puffing out his chest with pride and the tail elegantly wrapped around his paws. He had his usual blue bowtie on, alongside with a red Santa hat and sweater. If it wasn’t for his constant movements and breathing he could be easily mistaken for a cute Christmas themed cat plushie.

He wasn’t that famous just yet, so he wasn’t surprised if a customer started to search for someone on the counter for whatever reason and were startled when he politely greeted them and introduced himself. Actually it was kind of amusing to not say the least, given how many unusual thigs could be found around Manta Carlos, a talking cat shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.

Ping!

As Chloe opened the door, the entry bell rang. She had heard about this bakery before, inasmuchas one of her classmates had brought cupcakes from here for a birthday. The name of the place stuck in her head, and several weeks later, she came seeking a treat for herself and her girlfriend.

First, her eyes fell on the cupcakes. Then, as she took a few steps forward, she saw the cat.

She made a sort of happy squealing sound. He had to be their mascot - he was probably the reason why this store had its name. He even had a cute little outfit!

"Aren't you a cute kitty?" She talked at the cat in sort of a baby-talking voice, leaning in, eyes bright, delighted. She reached out to scratch the cat behind the ears, to rub the front of its body below the neck (cats and dogs loved that, she thought). "Yes you are," she continued in her baby-voice.

She would continue to loudly enjoy the cat's company while she waited for the people who actually ran this place to get to her. She had a vague sense that there were demons nearby. Or maybe there had been demons nearby? It would be awesome if this was a demon-run business.

Oliver looked at Chloe as she entered in the shop, but before he could formally greet her she started to baby-talk to him and even pet him.

Ollie smiled and closed his eyes while purring. It has been a long time since anyone had petted him like this at all. Usually he wouldn’t admit it, but he missed this a bit. He got up and, acting like if he was nothing but your average everyday cat though obviously cuter, a lot cuter indeed, he started to rub himself against Chloe’s hand, arching his back and purring.

He could’ve been like this for hours, being treated like this, but apparently his shop would need his help sooner than later, and he wouldn’t deny it just for some pleasure of his own. An elegantly dressed man walked out from the kitchen, Oliver was fairly strict with the etiquette of his employees, and if they were going to represent his bakery in front of its customers it was obvious that they had to look nice.

The employee couldn’t help but flinch when they noticed what was happening before chuckling a bit “Sir, the red velvet cupcakes you asked for are ready” Oliver sighed and left Chloe’s side “How many times I have to say it, just call me Ollie! Anyways, would you mind delivering them to a party? The address is right…hum…” Oliver looked through some of the papers on the counter before finding a cute pink post-it with neon blue hearts around it “Here!” He handed the post-it to the man, who took it with a smile and nodded.

“Right away, Sir…I mean, Ollie” With that the employee walked back inside the kitchen.

Oliver turned around to look at Chloe with his usual cute friendly smile “Sorry about that. I think I never could formally introduce myself. I’m Oliver, owner of this bakery, but please, call me Ollie” He bowed politely “May I ask your name, young lady?”.

The half-demon was dumbfounded. The way she had just been treating this cat seemed like it would be very condescending to a sentient creature, like Oliver so clearly was.

Her cheeks reddened. "I'm sorry, I didn't know... I mean, I hope that wasn't, ah, I mean..." sigh. "My name is Chloe," she finally answered his question. "It's nice to meet you, Ollie.

As delightful as the mere notion of a talking cat was, she was worried that she had made a horrible first impression with him. Which was sad, because a talking cat sounded like the sort of person she would want to be friends with, or at least on good terms with. Behind that smile, was he beginning to hate her?

Ollie just laughed while covering his mouth elegantly with a paw.

“Don’t worry about it, Chloe, I would be lying to you if I told you that I didn’t enjoyed it a bit. It has been a long time since someone petted me at all” He decided to lay on the counter while looking at Chloe, his posture clearly more relaxed and content, but still fairly elegant.

“You aren’t the first one to mistake me for a common cat, so don’t feel ashamed for that, young lady. Tell me, is there anything that you were looking for? I’ll be happy to aid you with whatever I can”

Ollie looked at Chloe carefully, he wasn’t as perceptive as many people on this island, but he didn’t needed that kind of sensibility to notice that he wasn’t talking to an ordinary girl here…and he didn’t meant that he thought she was human, it was fairly obvious that she wasn’t.
