Wong Ha Jung

Wong Ha Jung looked at him. "You're not crazy," the counselor said, feeling oddly serene. Of that, he was fairly certain. So far, William wasn't hitting any of the warning signs for it. "You're just angry." With good reason for it, too. The typical system wasn't equipped to dealing with people with powers and because of that, it had a strong tendency to fail. "It's only natural to be in your situation."

He didn't bother trying to justify his stance on medication. It seemed like that would only be counter productive, taking them off the main subject. It just wasn't the time or place for it. And anyways, if Wong Ha Jung had to explain any more about it than what was on the surface, all he would find were buried things that he didn't really want to think about so much anymore.

"You're not here because anybody thinks you're crazy either," he went on peaceably. "Most likely, the entire matter would have already been taken out of my hands if that was the case. As I said before, this is just talk. That's the kind of thing I'm here for."

William sighed as he held onto Spirit still, before letting the creature go as he stood up, dragging his fingers through his hair that was now reaching past his shoulders, much like the girl's would, as his new room-mate was all too happy to notice. He had lost the tie he put on this morning while fighting, so it was falling freely around his face, irritating him even more, along with everything else that has happened today.

You wanna talk, Flamingo head? he said, his voice still crude, and a bitter look on his face. Fine. We shall talk. he said, crashing into the couch once again, Warrior now standing behind him as Spirit stayed lying on the floor.

It's some nice weather we are having these days, isn't it? he asked, looking smug and amused as he smiled. He had never said he would talk about anything meaningful. Warrior stood silently behind him, disapproving, but not getting himself involved, as such was his choice. Spirit, on the other hand, hissed.

I'm behaving! William said in return, raising his hands in the air. It's not an insult if he really has pink hair! Plus, you know I could have done worse. he added, his smile growing bigger. Spirit, unfortunately, did know what William was talking about, and thus simply sighed, dropping his head to the floor.

Wong Ha Jung

Wong Ha Jung had heard his fair share of schoolyard insults but that one, was, um. That one was new. The part of him that was still out reliving high school was a little uncomfortable. The rest of him, though, was torn between laughter and blankness. It was baffling how he was supposed to react to that, so he settled for looking on with bemusement.

Well, at least that's something, the counselor thought optimistically. It would have been nice to hear something a little more meaningful but it was an awfully unrealistic expectation at times. If bit meal was all he was going to get, he wasn't going to be complaining about it. Sometimes he didn't get anything at all. In terms of general assessment, things were actually going along decently. And if he were to factor powers and everything like them, well. It could be a lot worse. Luck, then? he worried.

He folded his hands in his lap. "I suppose so," the Chinese man said with a light smile. "It's milder than Hong Kong." Not that he had been back in quite some time.

Now that got William interested.

Hong Kong? he asked, leaning forward a bit, looking over the pink-headed man again, and noticing only then that the man did indeed look Asian. That must have been some flight. William laughed, his eyes finally losing the previous angry fire and growing a bit brighter, as he had always loved travelling, even though his trip to Starlight Academy was his first time of going anywhere by the plain, and had since then also developed a wish to see distant places. He wanted to travel the world and see as much of it as he could, and while he knew that the therapist could very well have a field trip with that, putting it down to wanting to run away, and such, he just didn't care right now. He wanted to hear about Hong Kong, and has thus suddenly found himself with a thousand questions he didn't know how to phrase.

I... he started, soon biting onto his own tongue. He would not show how eager he suddenly was to hear about the man's trip, or presumably, homeland.

Wong Ha Jung

The counselor blinked at William's sudden change in demeanor. "Oh, yes, it was," Wong Ha Jung said thoughtfully. "I was fourteen when we made the first flight to America. Never had been on a plane before that." He ducked his head sheepishly, admitting, "The first few hours were terrifying. The rest went well enough but to be honest, the only part I liked was the part where we got off."

Trailing off for a while, he debated whether he should go on. As a general rule, he really wasn't supposed to be leading conversations inside of sessions, only guiding them along. The point was to not be preventing the other person from speaking. But in this case, it did feel like a good choice to simply press on a little bit more, seeing as it was the only time since entering the room that William had seemed even remotely interested in anything.

"But, yes, I was born in Hong Kong," he went on eventually. "Not entirely a local, though, since my parents are from Nanjing. People might still call me a mainlander for it." The man shrugged lightly, in a what can you do? manner. "It's been a few years since I've been back. Most of my family is in the States now."

I remember that feeling. William whispered, shuddering. The flight he took from his previous place of residence (for he refused to call it home now) to the Island probably wasn't nearly as long as the one from Hong Kong to America. The first 45 minutes of it were still hell, though, for he had never been on a plane before, and the stuff also took Spirit away, for he couldn't really sit in the cabin with other passengers. William was an inch away from breaking for the whole time, until the flight attendant gave him something that sent him straight to the lend of sleep.

Nanjing. he repeated after Wong after a second, his brow frowning. Where the hell is that? he asked, only this time, his voice wasn't insulting, even though he had cursed again. His body had also relaxed, leaning into the couch somewhat, but more towards Wong as all this talk about Hong Kong captured the boy's interest.

Dreamer or traveler, then? the counselor wondered, observing William's relaxed posture. Probably traveler. Dreamers weren't usually so angry but there were always exceptions to that. Could be a mix of both. But he couldn't be absolutely certain on that at the moment.

"Ah, Nanjing's in the delta of the Yangtze, about halfway between Hong Kong and Beijing," Wong Ha Jung said after a moment of thought. "It's a few hours from the coast -just west of Shanghai. I've never been that far north, though. Back when I was still living over there, there weren't very many easy ways to get across the country. From Hong Kong, really, the farthest place you could expect to get to without much difficulty was Guangzhou -that's under a hundred miles, I think," he explained. "So not very far at all. But then again, Chinese are very sedentary. We don't tend to move that much."

"Truthfully, I've seen more of Japan than China, probably," the counselor said. Even though Hong Kong was kind of its own area depending on who you asked. "I double majored in psychology and Japanese language." And then, after a brief pause, "What about you, William? Have you been anywhere?"

William tried to keep up with Wong's narration of the Chinese names of some distant cities, only to get lost after the third, for even though he knew the names, without a way to somehow connect them to a place, he simply got lost.

I want to go there. he almost blurted out as the man mentioned Japan, biting his tongue as he remembered himself that he was trying not to reveal too much about himself. And the fact that he longed to see Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand just because they seemed distant enough, being more than a half a world away, was definitely too much. After a minute though, there came a direct question, and he didn't know what to do.

I... he began, clenching his fists immediately, and pulling his lips back to form an angry grimace. No. he said, dropping his head to look at the floor, his shoulders shaking again. My...parents... he finally spat out the word as if it had somehow burned his mouth. They...We never went anywhere. It was always...something or the other. Lying on the floor beside his feet, Spirit could see perfectly well William's expression closing up, as it always happened when his parents were mentioned. That he said anything at all before that was, though, success for which Wong should be given a gold medal and a severe pay raise, he thought.

Wong Ha Jung

I see, Wong Ha Jung stopped himself from saying, as he began trying to put some of the pieces together. Neglectful parents, abusive parents, uncaring parents. Or, maybe -as was often the case- the issue was frightened parents. He would have liked to ask more about that subject but with William's reaction, it seemed like he had best wait longer.

"What you are thinking of studying?" the counselor asked instead, hoping that was safer ground. "Depending on what it is, chances are that you could possibly do a project abroad. We don't have any official programs for that but sometimes students like to do things for credit during the break. Most of the time, they seem to go in groups but it's not unheard of for people to go alone either. The Academy is pretty ethnically diverse so you could probably find somebody from your area of interest who can give you some more information."

"If money's an issue, I'm pretty sure you can apply for funds." The Academy, after all, received a fairly ridiculous sum of money each year to keep it running and from what Wong Ha Jung had heard and seen for himself, no proposal rejected by administration cited money as a problem. Ever.

William gave a sharp chuckle at the mention of studying.

I haven't thought about anything. he said, taking one hand into another and bringing them under his chin as he leaned on them, looking at Wong again, his expression closed up and distant again. Since I would have to finish high school to be allowed to move onto college and all. he said, giving a sharp laugh again as he thought about several curses he was sure he was going to fail, considering that he studied only when he was in the mood, and the more shit the teacher gave him, the less motivation he had. Some of his teachers hated him with fierce passion and would (in his opinion) like nothing more than see him burn.

Though something like psychology... he said carefully, eyeing Wong like a frightened animal would as he revealed another small piece of himself. It wouldn't be too bad. I would love to know what makes people so fucked up and all.

For a moment, he stayed frozen, waiting for the man's response as he thought about money somewhere in the back of his head.
