He wasn't entirely clear how her powers would work. Not really. How would they interact with Giltenn? But inevitably, it wasn't enough to actually convince him not to do it.

"Then... I'd like to, if you're up for it. The bookstore seems nice, and your work isn't far off the path between home and school. I can drop by sometimes. And challenges, of course..."

Jude had been doing a lot of challenges. They were a good distraction. Kept his mind off things.

She beamed at him. “Then let’s go find Cornelius! I promise I’ll always do my best!” And that was what worried her. What if her best wasn’t enough for Jude? How did she even know that she couldn’t do better than her “best?” Lucianne banished these thoughts to the back of her mind, holding onto the facts instead.

Fact one, she liked Jude. He was kind and seemed sincere in wanting to help others. Fact two, her powers had to be good for something out there. Fact three, logically that meant she would use her powers for Jude. Final fact, she could be useful to Jude in some way.

Jude didn't quite get the seriousness of that, letting out a small laugh.

"You don't have to do your best all the time," he said. "Just... be you. I know I should probably be trying to win, but I'm kind of just... using the tournament to fill time. To meet people. Winning is nice, but I kind of enjoy the contest for the sake of contests. Like, I realized I'm really good at playing hangman."

Which was kind of weird, but whatever.

"So do we just talk to him?"

It was kind of cute how he missed her point, Lucianne thought. It probably was also an indication that she was overthinking things way too much. Smiling at his answer - how could she not? - she nodded in agreement. "I'm not really a competitive person myself," she said. "I'm more for just enjoying the experience."

"Cornelius is probably in a museum somewhere," Lucianne mused. "It won't be that hard to find him. He has a list of places on the island to hit up so he's most likely at one of those places. Claudius would know."

Easy ways to find someone. Assuming he didn't have a phone, there wasn't a lot of ways to find him, except...

She blinked for a moment consideringly. "Oh snap, I didn't even think of that," Lucianne admitted. "Okay, let's do that instead! He might not be very pleased to see us if we do it that way but Cornelius, um. Has been a little put on by the entire tournament anyways. So it'll only be a little bit our fault?" She would rather not upset him at all but it seemed like anything having to do with the tournament nowadays made Cornelius twitch a little.

Jude cracked a grin at her. Truthfully, he didn't super care if Cornelius was annoyed. It was, in Jude's mind, a bit of tit for tat. Cornelius had been sneaky with him, using the letter of the law against him, and now Jude was doing the same in turn, using the letter of the law against him. The bell summoned Cornelius, and while it was meant for people meeting him for the first time, there was no rule against using it for other things.

"He set the whole thing up, but he's bothered by it?" Jude said as they headed out.
