She took one glance at the man before shaking her head. "You look like you've got more than a handful yourself. Here, it's this way."

The part of the hospital that Ekaterina lead them through was emptier than most, a result of many people having left the island for summer. It filled up more during the fall and spring, she had heard. Fall for being the time of year when the most new students with untrained powers arrived and spring for being the time of year when bored students decided to either cut loose or pull off dangerous stunts. Both. Something like that. The office that she was looking for in particular was a smaller sized one in a quiet corner. Basically the equivalent of having a closet, if said closet was also big enough to accommodate four to five people plus equipment.

Aiden followed her through the hallways, unfamiliar with this section since he was typically at the academy during the fall when intakes occurred. When he recognized the small room as the lab room, Aiden reached out to open the handel when it happened.

One of the kittens escaped from his shirt, springing onto Ekaterina and dive bombing towards the bucket, as if attempting to knock it out of the woman's hands.

"oh shit," Aiden said, and when he attempted to grab the lose kitten, the others took the opportunity to leap out of his shirt and take off in different directions down the hallway. Aiden grabbed one of kitten and hauled it back up, but the others were gone.

"Well," Aiden said. "This...this sucks."

It happened so fast, she hadn't even the time to react. Ekaterina blinked as one of the kittens faced her and in the next moment, the bucket was slipping from her fingers in surprise as it actually leaped at her. Her mind came just a moment too late, following after it with the thought, So this is what a disaster looks like as it unfolds.

The kittens scattered, leaving the one that she had been carrying behind. That was almost a relief, that it hadn't run off to spread its illness elsewhere. And then Aiden was bending down to pick it up as her voice came out, late again with the rest of her reactions, "Wait, not that one!"

"Not that whaaa--!" Aiden said, cut off by the sharp claws of the baby cat ringing into his hand. He jerked his hand back automatically and the small cat took off into the lab, darting behind a computer monitor.

"Ouch," he murmured, holding up his hands. The cut wasn't deep, but Aiden walked over to think to wash it in a hurry.

"Well at least that's one cat in the lab," Aiden said, sighing. "How many of the cats came in contact with you?"

Specifically because he was a doctor, Aiden was not thinking about that the cut on his hand meant.

Her eyes followed the cat immediately, even as she belatedly took in the fact that the other doctor had actually made skin contact with it. Ekaterina processed the information and then stuck it into the back of her mind. When it came down to it, she really disliked thinking so but it all came down to numbers and basic logic. Aiden was most likely knowledgeable enough to stay put and not spread something accidentally. That kitten just had no restraints at all. It was an animal. That would have been awkward if it did.

"Only one that I know of," she said, staring at the place where the kitten had disappeared to. "You touched it, right? How do you feel?"

Specifically because she was a disease carrier, Ekaterina was not thinking about the fact that she could actually be in danger.

"I am feeling....alright, so far," Aiden said. "Although that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I suppose...I suppose I'd best get comfortable in here, shouldn't I?"

He looked around the small lab and now his face twitched into something as a frown. Being put in quarantine would sorely mess up his plans for the evening.

"What are the chances that cat....contracted something from you?" Aiden asked. It was probably a sensitive question, but since the cat was out of the bag, he figured he needed to know.

They needed to get that cat, but Aiden couldn't risk spreading whatever he might have just caught. He pumped hand sanitize from the receptical near the door and onto his scratch without flinching.

"That would be a full hundred percent," Ekaterina informed him, cautiously picking her way to where the kitten had gone to. "I've never had an instance where that has failed. Unfortunately."

With the bucket in hand, she crouched down to eye level with the animal. But the space was too small so she was forced to put the bucket away and make a grab for it instead. Despite being a doctor, however, Ekaterina was rather clumsy with her hands when it came to squirming, sentient beings and ended up yanking on its tail, causing it to yowl furiously.

She cursed, let go, and tried again.

Aiden sighed and watched her struggling with the cat. He made sure to close the door, but it wasn't like the kitten was really going to go anywhere now.

And, Aiden supposed, neither was he.

"What do you think is the most likely disease to be transmitted?" Aiden asked. He pulled out one of the desk chairs and sat down.

He was trying not to think about it, because he might get angry. Not at Ekaterina, or the cat, or even at himself, but at the absolute absurdity of it all. Aiden had things to do. He had people to kill.

He could not be put under quarantine.

This was why she didn't like animals. It was already hard enough to deal with people who could understand her. "Statistically speaking? Probably the common cold. I pick up two or three different strains each year. Considering what happened last summer, though, I'm not entirely sure what you might have gotten."

Being a little more than distracted at the moment, Ekaterina's thoughts weren't too focused on the implications of what she was saying. It wasn't like she knew what Aiden's powers were anyways. Since he was a doctor, though, the automatic assumption was that it was something remotely related to medical. Maybe it was a stereotype but it wasn't like she saw many elementalists or other sorts of mages in this profession. There was usually some correlation between powers and fields of study. Usually. Not always.

"Still feeling okay?"

"The common cold," Aiden said. Right. He can deal with that. He was Death incarnate, the common cold wouldn't stop him.....right?

Aiden felt warm. Uncomfortably so.

He pulled out the chair and sat down onto it. He loosened his tie and leaned back in the chair. A wave of heat had started to rush over him.

"Ekaterina," Aiden said. "I am unfortunately not feeling quite right. I feel warm. I think my heart rate has started to increase. I do not believe this is a result of any cognitive distortion or placebo knowing that I've been scratched."

He was clinical about this. Aiden tugged at his shirt collar again.

"I also do not have any powers that would cause a reaction like this. I'm white bread human. This is...not normal." He sounded distanced, but his voice was strained. "I can't...catch any...powers from you, correct?"
