Jacob remembered waking up on the couch in Wong's office months ago. The office had been empty and his hangover had not been too bad. Still, for a few seconds he had wondered where he was and how he gotten there. When his eyes finally adjusted and he recognized the desk in the office, the memories came flooding back. He had gone to Wong, sought him out, because he needed to talk to someone he could trust about his relationship issues with Lenn. For whatever reason, he had brought a six pack of beer and then downed it all himself while he and Wong "discussed" his situation. There had been some crying on Jacob's part and Wong had dove under his desk out of embarrassment. It was not the most normal conversation. In the end, Wong had managed to overcome his weirdness and actually gave Jacob some comfort before Jacob passed out on the couch.

It had been weird time.

Now it was several months later and things were going great. After the Snow Ball, the two of them had patched up their relationship and they were a real couple again. The distance between them had gone and their smiles were genuine, and Jacob even got a new tattoo out of love for her. He was even planning on having his daughter visit so he could finally have some quality time with her, and she could meet the woman that her dad is dating. That was going to be an awkward, and he knew it, but it was also only possible because he and Lenn were on very good terms again.

Considering all that had gone right, Jacob felt the need to give his thanks. Jacob had given Wong a call and convinced him to join him for a drinks, Jacob's treat. He was also aware of how awkward that might be, so he picked up a bar relatively close to the Academy that was also pretty mild. The place was good-sized family-owned restaurant and bar that had a nice sports theme to it. The place was active, but not rowdy, and Jacob figured that would be a place Wong could tolerate.

Wong Ha Jung

Friendship was a very odd thing and Wong Ha Jung couldn't help but feel a little pressured by the knowledge that somehow, he had managed to wander into a few of them without trying. He felt like the last time that had happened, it had been on him that things had simply fallen apart. Gradually. But it was a decent kind of strange, he supposed. It would have been good, even, but he was only just starting to creep back into that territory and it didn't feel quite right to say something positive with such certainty.

Still, he managed to get himself to the meeting place without too much difficulty. The doctors from before had been right after all; moving around had become much less of a hassle than it had been at the beginning. It seemed like such a long time ago but it was almost a year since that incident. Maybe that perception was for the best, making it feel like there was much more time to actually sort everything out. Compartmentalization wasn't a medicine but it still helped a lot. He just needed to find some more boxes to fit everything into. Maybe bury some things in a garden and let them lie there.

Anxiety was starting to creep back over him but knowing that it was too late to turn right back around did wonders to quell it. He sighed a little as he pushed the door of the restaurant open, taking a moment to look around for Jacob. As he did, he was able to recognize a few of the people already there, by sight rather than anything else. The familiarity made him feel somewhat better about creeping over to where he saw Jacob sitting.

Unlike the last time that he and Wong had hung out, Jacob was consciously regulating his alcohol intake. By the time Wong arrived, he had not even finished his first beer. In the meantime, he had been alternately watching the nearby TV, looking at his phone and watching the door for Wong's arrival. He was all too happy to see the man roll his way into the establishment, but resisted the urge to make a big show of it. If there was one thing he definitely knew about Wong, it was that he was not the most... socially energetic man working at the Academy. The two of them were pretty much polar opposites in that respect, and a few others.

When Wong did finally arrive at his table, Jacob was all smiles and held out his hand to him.

"Glad you could make it, man. I hope it wasn't too much of a hassle for you get here."

Jacob was a changed man from the last time they had met. His attitude had undergone a complete change and it even showed in his appearance. There was life and vibrancy in him again, and it all seemed genuine.

"Can I buy you a beer or something? I owe you something for, y'know, being there for me that time. In your office."

He seemed a little embarrassed to bring it up again. It was not his finest moment.

Wong Ha Jung

"Ah, no, it wasn't too bad. It's always nice to see you, Jacob." Which Wong Ha Jung sincerely meant, because anxiety aside, he liked the other man quite a bit. They were friends, maybe. Probably. He liked to think so sometimes, at least, when he was feeling optimistic. That was about a minute ago and now he was back to quietly doubting. Questions like would you consider us friends? seemed logical but more suited for the schoolyards then here. And that was completely fine with him.

He took the other man's hand for a moment before releasing it, doing an awkward bow as he did. Pushing one of the chairs to the side, he cleared away just enough space for his wheelchair to fit, so that the two men were opposite of one another. "Just a soda is fine," Wong Ha Jung said, faintly blushing at the reminder of yet another embarrassing incident. But, judging by Jacob's tone, it seemed like he was equally affected by it. "Anything is all right. I'm not especially picky."

"It seems like things have been going well for you." If the smile hadn't been enough, there was also something in the way of how the other man held himself. Happiness did remarkable things for people.

"Alright. Whatever you want, man."

As a server came by, Jacob put in an order for the both of them. Whatever soda Wong wanted and a good beer for him, and a plate of spicy wings to munch on too because why not. He had already had one before Wong arrived, but Jacob thought he could handle at least one more. There was no way he was going to over do it again, like he had in Wong's office. For both of their sakes, Jacob was going to watch his alcohol intake.

"Oh, things have been great. It wasn't an overnight thing..."

It kind of was, actually.

"... But Lenn and I managed to stick it out and work together and, well, here we are now!"

There was genuine warmth behind Jacob's smile as he talked to Wong.

"It really turned around when we went to the Snow Ball together. It was a great night and it kinda reaffirmed our feelings for each other. Heh. Yeah... We reaffirmed all over my office that night, man."

With such a good mood and feelings also came Jacob's tendency to joke around more, and now that he was basically hanging out with his male friend Wong, he felt little compulsion to hold back on the innuendos. As he talked to Wong, he gave the man the facial expression equivalent of an elbow nudge.

Wong Ha Jung

Okay, maybe letting Jacob get him a drink wasn't a good idea. Wong Ha Jung was perfectly certain that if he had been drinking it just then, it would have probably come out his nose. Because the only thing to do in a suddenly awkward situation was to make it even more awkward. That was perfectly sensible and also definitely something he would do by accident.

"Er, well I'm glad it's going so well," he said with a short laugh, nervously tugging at his collar. "I can't say that I've had much experience with that sort of thing myself." Well, not the reconciliation part, anyways. Messy break ups were something of his specialty but somehow the only thing he ever did in those situations was walk away and keep going.

He really did envy Jacob from time to time.

"So, what exactly is she like?" Wong Ha Jung asked, trying to change the subject. "The rumor mill's been a bit frantic lately but nobody's said anything about personality at all." She had to be nice, of course, because he couldn't envision Jacob putting up with anybody less than decent.

"Ah, man~ She's amazing. She likes getting really handy and grabs me everwh--"

Jacob's face flushed with red when Wong clarified his question.

"Oh. OH! Personality! Right. Right. *ahem*"

Wong should probably have considered himself lucky that he quickly made his question more specific in regards to Lenn. Jacob was riding so high on good vibes from recent times, and his inhibitions were just greased enough by alcohol, that he was more than willing to give Wong the down-and-dirty regarding what Lenn could do for him in the bedroom. Or the office as the situation was.

"She's a great woman. Sweet and funny. She's nice at heart, but she's a little rough on the outside. But I like that! She's interesting and full of life, and she's pushes into things I never would have considered before."

That was an understatement. Before Lenn, there was no way Jacob could have ended up embroiled in the criminal underworld.

"She's, uh, not the most feminine woman in the world, by her own admission. Despite the fact that she's literally a lingerie model and, well, looks like she does..."

He gave Wong a wink and, as always, never passed an opportunity to make it clear that he was in fact dating a lingerie model. For real.

"She's been trying to be more girly lately. Y'know. Cooking and going on dates. But I like it when we're at home and we can lounge about in our underwear just bein' all... buddy buddy too.

... Yumi would never do anything like that..."

Wong Ha Jung

Smile and nod, Wong. Jacob's a friend and he's having a good week so just smile and nod. It -it wasn't like this was anything he was unused to hearing. It was actually kind of routine for somebody to come by, spill everything about their sex lives, and then lives. With how distracted he had been in the last few months, though, stuff like that had sort of gone over his head.

There was a lot of emotional catching up he had to do. Still, he was glad when, um. Jacob went off onto the actual question. Maybe I should have sat around and tried to turn into a girl before I came here.

It seemed like this conversation really wanted to mature into an emotional roller coaster, though, because just as Wong Ha Jung was getting used to it, it became awkward again. For different reasons this time. Not for the first time, he was reminded that he was not a relationship counselor and definitely not a marriage counselor.

He cleared his throat a little. "I'm glad that you've found yourself a good partner. It's hard at times to find the right person and often, you as well as the person who's right for the time won't be the same in the future," he said, trailing off and wondering if this was a safe enough place to stand. The man shook his head. "I think you'll be fine." And he really did mean that. "If you can get through what's already happened, I really think you'll be fine."

Then he looked away, feeling almost ashamed of himself, muttering an apology.

After all the time Jacob had spent with and around Wong, he had developed a sense of when something was actually bugging Wong or when Wong was just his normal level of anxious. He picked up one of those moments after he mentioned his ex-wife. Though Jacob thought he mentioned her in more upbeat tone, rather than a melancholy one, he still knew that it was still an awkward moment maker.

"I don't doubt it. After everything we've been through, it's gonna take a whole lot to break us up. We've grown seriously close after all this."

Their drinks and wings came. Jacob could have really gone for some wings, but he was going to wait for Wong to have some. Knowing Wong's anxiety, he made sure to make a gesture of offering to him as well.

"And hey, don't feel too bad, okay? I know that mentioning Yumi should be awkward, and it kinda is... But it's not like I hold any bad feelings toward her. There's no resentment or anything. So I'm not gonna go off on her, on you."

He needed to stop talking about himself so much, at least for the moment.

"So what have you been up to, Wong? Got anyone on your radar?"
