It was a lovely weekend morning, the sun was shining and there was barely a cloud in the sky. The leaves were just beginning to change to those lovely reds and yellows that signified the beginning of autumn. It was becoming rather brisk, but not to cold that you needed a jacket just yet. Yes, it was the perfect day for a walk, and a good book.

Emily was taking advantage of this fact, strolling casually across the courtyard with some fiction novel under her arm. She had taken the opportunity to change out her normal, practical clothing for something a bit fancier. Today she was draped in a lovely blue sundress, paired with violet shoes, white stockings, and a white sun hat. It was a simple and conservative outfit, but it suited her very nicely.

It wasn't long before she found a bench she liked and sat down. She'd already been walking for a little while and she was kind of tired of just avoiding people for no reason other then she was being shy. Time for her to just let them pass by, while absorbed in the pages of her book.

Elias Florencio Almeida Ventura

Having finally been released by the being known as his fairy godmother, Elias was once again free to pursue his dream of fighting random people with superpowers that were undoubtedly more useful than his own. It was a good day. It was also still a bit on the warm side, so being somebody from way down under, Elias was very appreciative of that.

The problem with weekends, though, was that people tended to sleep in on them. A lot. Being an early bird who did not have a roommate yet meant that Elias was completely and utterly unscheduled for the mornings. He could do anything that he wanted. Anything at all.

This was a very long and polite way of saying that he was bored. But if there was something that he learned from his godmother, it was that the more polite you were, the more you tended to talk. It was like how some people would say "My sincere apologies" instead of just "Sorry."

Within a short while, however, he was a bit pleasantly surprise to see somebody else in the courtyard. The only problem was that the person was a girl. Elias hesitated for a moment, wondering to himself if he would really ask her to a fight.

The answer was of course he would. He would just make sure to be extra nice so that he didn't come off as creepy or anything like that!

"Excuse me?" He went up to her cheerily, rubbing the back of his head. "That's a beautiful dress and it's a lovely day -would you like to fight me? Please?"

See, he even said please. That was right, right?

Emily looked up from her book at the stranger that called out to her. She tilted her head a little bit and licked her lips out of habit, Elias was certainly seemed cheerful and lighthearted.

She initially blushed at the comment, and she was only further embarrassed and confused by the rest of his sentence. "Wh-Wh-What?!" She began fidgeting around on the bench, trying to comfort herself and calm herself down a little. "I-I... I'm sorry... I'm n-not sure I u-understand... Why w-would I want to fight you?..."

Obviously, it was time for a different approach, though to be perfectly honest, Elias didn't really understand how to deal with girls. He had two sisters of his own but, well. They were much younger than him and they were family, after all. Dealing with them was pretty different from dealing with cute girls he just met ten seconds earlier.

Mentally backtracking a few steps, Elias reassured her, "I'm not going to hurt you, I promise. My powers make it so that I literally can do no harm and I don't mind a few punches to the face from time to time." He was used to it, really, and it wasn't that big of a deal because at least Manta Carlos had some great healing magic. "I just like to take stock of the people around the island and fighting is a great way to do it."

Wait, this was a girl. Elias had to remind himself of that fact again, because he knew that he could be dense about this sometimes. His godmother was always telling him so. "You know, it might be good for you to try." He pointed out, "There's a lot of people around who aren't that nice and who also have powers. So, you know. Better to practice with somebody beforehand because your personal safety is important and it's always good to know how you stand with these sorts of things."

He really had no idea how well he was doing with being reassuring. "Um, we can start small?"

Emily leaned away slightly, and scooted just inch or so back from Elias. She was very confused about this situation, why would this person want to fight her? Why would she want to fight this person?! "I... I... Don't... What?..." She could taste the distress and confuse slowly falling across her tongue, masking anything that she might read off Elias.

"I-I d-don't.... H-How does fighting t-t-t-tell you a-anything about a p-person?!" She stood up and stepped behind the bench, terror was very slowly creeping into her emotions as well. "H-H-How would... What k-k-kind of..." Nope, she was having a hard time handling this. Her voice was slowly getting more and more panics and increasing in volume. "What do you mean we can start small!?" Was he trying to come on to her?!

Elias was completely oblivious to Emily's discomfort, but he had the vague sense that something was maybe a little wrong because he thought she was starting to act weirdly. "Eh, I think that the definition of small varies from person to person," he said thoughtfully. "One of the last guys I tried to fight just froze my feet to the ground. I think that was an accident, though? He's gotten better since then. That was actually pretty fun but I couldn't actually get out by myself so he had to help me there."

"But no, really! Lei's a great guy." Since he didn't see any reason to stop talking, he just kept on going. "Kind of inexperienced with his powers, though. Still, it was neat to see what he could do. Wasn't really expecting water manipulation. Nobody in my family has really cool powers. We do have fairy godparents though, but."

He looked around quickly. Sometimes his godmother had a habit of magically appearing when he didn't want her to. "Uh, yeah. So. Godparents. Mine's sometimes around. She's a bit scary," he said, with a nervous laugh.

And she was just still standing there behind the bench. Elias shifted a little uncomfortably before sticking out his hand. "But, sorry! I'm Elias. Probably should have started with that. I'm on my first year on the island so I'm just hanging around and seeing what sorts of powers people have. It's pretty interesting!"

Emily was beginning to have a hard time breathing. Her eyes were locked on the man in front of her except when they were darting around to look for an escape. She paid almost zero attention to Elias' ramblings until he mentioned Lei.

Lei! Emily had Lei's number! She could call for help! no wait, she could call and see if this guy was on the up and up or whatever! He pulled up her phone and took a couple small steps back away from the guy. "... N-N-Now you just st-st-stay there, and m-maybe I won't have to s-scream..." She watched him for a couple more seconds before looking down at the screen and typing frantically.

"Huh? Well, okay," Elias trailed off as the girl took out her phone and began texting. She didn't seem particularly interested in talking with him while she was doing it so he just sat down on the bench and tried to wait patiently.

In little time at all, Elias had come to a conclusion. He was officially and utterly stumped by the situation. Talking with girls was hard. So far, he was just going with the assumption that they were like. Softer guys that he had to be nice to. People were going on so much about gender equality and all that he just assumed that this was probably the correct way to go about things. Now that he thought about it, though, he couldn't really remember the last time he talked to a girl his own age that wasn't a member of his family.

He scratched his head. Maybe that the problem. This seemed like the sort of thing he should ask his godmother about but. But that would turn into a lecture, wouldn't it?

Emily whined a little bit, swaying from side to side as she had a short conversation with Lei on her phone. Occasionally she'd look up at Elias to make sure he hadn't tried to move closer or anything.

Eventually, she took a few deep breaths and put her phone away again. turning timidly back to Elias. "O..... O-Okey.... Lei s-says I should just..... F-Fight you... B-But only if you're w-wearing gloves!..."

She didn't understand that caveat of Lei's, but she wasn't going to question it right now, she just wanted to get this over with.

"All right!" At the sound of her agreement, Elias was already perking up and off of the bench. There were few things in this world that he liked more than a good fight. Things meaning that this category did not include people. But just because somebody was willing to fight, didn't necessarily that it'd be any fun. Smile disappearing fast, Elias considered the situation, a look of contemplation coming over his face.

"You can go first if you want," he decided, standing back a bit and crossing his arms like he didn't quite know what to do with yourself. "Maybe twice. I mean, it was kind of weird when I fought Lei and, I guess. He was kind of more into it." Elias tilted his head to the side in thought. "I don't think I've ever actually fought a girl before. Is twice enough? We could go for three, too. I should have maybe let Lei go twice and you're a girl, so. So?"
