"Back more, back, a little bit more, and now, a little this way, to the left, no, your left, not mine," Liliana waved and gestured and shouted out to Amber and Genie as they moved the two large targets into place so she and Lucianne could practice together, after Liliana had helped her finesse her technique and teach her a little bit about the proper bow to use and the arrows to go with it. In Liliana's mind archery was all about doing, practicing, more than about pure theory.

"Hey, Lili, where did you want these?" Melody asked curiosly as she brought over two large quivers full of arrows to the clearing.

Lucianne Lovejoy

She had been a bit hesitant at first, asking for help in this particular field. Liliana was, well. In a few other lives, they had been friends. Some of the lifetimes had them as best friends, even. But this wasn't any of those. In this lifetime, Lucianne was simply a normal girl who happened to be proctoring a tournament that Liliana had been chosen to join. They hadn't even interacted before the moment that she had gone up and asked for some archery lessons.

"Is there anything I should be doing?" she asked anxiously. "Thank you very much for everything, really!"

Liliana smiled warmly when Lucianne finally showed up. She was on time, as always, and this made Lili smile inwardly. Some things, despite various incarnations, hardly ever charged.

A few weeks into the competition, Liliana had been approached by Lucianne, one of the proctors, for lessons, tips on archery and Liliana, at that moment, had supposed that word of her skills during the challenge with Destra had gotten around and that was why the girl had approached.

However, as they talked, Lili felt she knew her. She had a strong sense of soul, of knowing, and then, almost instantly, Liliana recognised the soul of her former friend. It had been shocking, a surprise really, and one that had left Liliana kind of wishing they had met again somewhat sooner.

"Glad I can help," Liliana said with a grin when Lucianne thanked her and grabbed the tape measure Melody was holding.

"And yes, before we start, I need to find out which bow length is best. We do this by measuring draw length," Liliana explained.

"I actually need you to stand with your arms stretched out at your sides like this, palms up," here Liliana stood and showed her what she meant. "I need to measure your arm span."

Lucianne Lovejoy

She had done her best to arrive on time, to set a good impression. In her other incarnations, she had always showed up on time for Liliana and she felt that it would be a disservice to the young lady to do anything less in this life.

It was strange thinking that this was a common event in another life. That she could be friends with this person. In the back of her mind, there were many Luciannes who all knew everything there was to know about Liliana and that was. Scary. Terrifying, actually. She did her best to ignore those memories and focus on the present instead.

"Okay, like this?" Lucianne did her best to follow the other girl's instructions, stretching out her arms like Liliana had.

"Yes, that's perfect actually," Liliana said as she measured the arm span of Lucianne with her tape measure, called out the measurement to Melody.

"Got it," she said as she looked at the bows they had brought and decided on one that looked very similar to Liliana's own bow.

"Thanks, Melody," Liliana said as she took the bow and presented it to Lucianne.

"Here yo go. We needed to measure your arm span, and divide it by 2.5, for the draw length of the bow, that means how far you can pull it back comfortably to get the best shot," Liliana explained as she ran her hand along the string.

"Let's get you standing correctly, okay?" she said as she showed Lucianne the stance she wanted. "One foot forward a bit, there...that's it," she said encouragingly.

She followed along with the movements, feeling as if she were watching from outside of her body. In a way, she supposed she was. This all was strangely familiar, as things normally were whenever she didn't filter her thoughts very hard. Another part of her, however, was at home in her skin but learning all of this for the first time.

"Okay, I think I've got it," she said, looking at Liliana expectantly for more instructions.

"You do," Liliana stated encouragingly. "Like you were or are a true archer," she said, having the feeling that at one time, Lucianne had been very proficient, and a skillful archer.

"Now, bring the bow up, hold it at almost shoulder height level. Bring it up til it's comfortable, and then pull back on the string using these two fingers - middle and ring only, " she explained holding her hand up and making a pull back gesture.

"No, that's fine," Liliana said, "Some people use that technique as well," now realising that there were other correct wats to draw the arrow back. "It's just not a good idea to use three or four fingers..." she explained.

"Here, now try with an arrow," she said as she passed Lucianne one of the arrows in the quiver near her leg.

She shook her head, smiling. "I want to do this the way you do!" Lucianne said. "You're so good at this; if it works for you, then it should be good enough for me, too. If not, then we'll just have to see. But generally speaking, it should be fine, right?" She flexed her fingers a few times, trying to get used to using those two specific fingers.

When Liliana gave her the arrow, she took it gently, doing her best to notch it properly. It was a bit of a clumsy attempt, nothing so fluid as a trained archer would do.
