Marcus Warke
Marcus had read almost every book in the Library for hints on the Regalia, but despite this, had failed to find anything that definitely pointed to them. It was if they just appeared one day, creating the tournament.

He found himself in a bookstore, searching for something he hadn't seen before. The possible selection he had wasn't as large, yet it was worth the effort. Starlight's Library couldn't have every book, after all.

Closing his book, and deciding that he needed some help, he looked around for some sort of attendant. Maybe they knew something he didn't "Excuse me," Marcus said, walking over to the first one he saw. "I don't mean to bother you, but do you have anything on the Group that recently came to the island. They are called Regalia?"

Claudius

He worked quietly, fingers ghosting over the spines of books to make sure that all was where it should be. Claudius felt at home among them, hiding himself in the back of the bookstore where few visited for very long. Some of the older, dustier books made this their final resting place, covers barely peaking out of the shadows of the shelves.

When he heard the sound of footsteps, Claudius held himself still, sinking into the quiet shade. When they came closer, his heart began to pound but he had locked himself into this corner and there was no escape. The person rounded into the nook that Claudius had been organizing, a seemingly human young man.

Claudius went still as he was addressed, not relaxing even when he heard the subject matter. "There aren't, aren't many books on those," he said quietly, clumsily tripping over his own tongue. "But what, what did you want to know?"

The Man in front of him looked like a deer in headlights. Marcus wasn't sure how to proceed at first. Then he pulled out from his pocket a small list of questions he wanted answered, the things that bugged him most, and handed it to the person in front of him. The guy would probably prefer to read than speak to him.

On the piece of paper, it had listed simple things, like Culture, and pacts, but it also had Cornelius' Name, as well as the words "Endgame?" shown and circled in a red pen.

"Just what you can please. It would really help." He said softly.

Claudius

Warily, Claudius took the paper from the young man, reading over it slowly. His heart skipped a beat at Cornelius's name. "Oh," he said quietly. "Oh, this, this person before you cannot possibly be of much help to, to you. It has been a very long time," he continued, trailing off into silence. But the young man still looked as if he wanted to have some sort of answer. Claudius supposed that he should not have volunteered for the tournament if he really wanted to avoid people as he normally did.

"Culturally, Regalia are diverse," Claudius said slowly. "Some were once spirits of the world or spirits of the dead. Their past lives affect their existence as Regalia somewhat. The pacts, pacts are temporary unless, unless the two partners choose otherwise. Cornelius," he said before stopping completely. He fidgeted for a few moments. "Cornelius is, is considered special among our kind. The pacts are not something that is usually done. Mainly, mainly the Regalia simply protect their charges as they can."

This person? Did they mean themself, or Cornelius? "What do you mean by a very long time?" Answering one question seemed to raise ten more, but he had to be careful not to overwhelm this person.

The Diversity made sense. He knew his own Regalia were very different to the others, and forgetting personality, they gave all these strange new and freaky powers to the people of manta Carlos. Cornelius seemed to be a figurehead again with this. Why was he so special?

Hearing Claudius use the word 'our' made him raise his eyebrows, but Marcus didn't show much other reaction. Was he a Regalia too? "So, um, the Regalia. They are essentially Guardian Spirits?"

Claudius

"This, this person was once very well acquainted with Cornelius," Claudius stuttered. "But that was a long time ago so this person before you cannot tell you much of him." Anxiously, he looked at the young man, hoping that he would not press that subject any further.

"Regalia are, are guardian spirits, yes," he said. "Spirits who gave up their original purpose in order to become guardians instead."

The look on his face told him not to speak of it, but Marcus got more than enough. This guy once knew Cornelius before all this happened. "How long have you been working here?"

They can give up their form? "Before now, what did they protect?"

Marcus looked at the man. Yeah, it was possible that this was a Regalia. He even looked a bit like Cornelius, just maybe older. If he was honest about knowing him a while back, was he an older brother or Parent of Cornelius. He wanted to ask, yet he knew that topic was passed, and to bring it back would cause only issues getting more information.

Claudius

"Here? Just, just a few years," Claudius said, unsettled by the stream of questions. "It's, it's nice. This person knows one of the owner's cousins."

"Oh, oh they didn't protect anything before," he continued. "Regalia who were once something else, they were nature spirits, maybe even spirits of the dead. Any, anything really. They had to choose to give it up to become Regalia."

So the Regalia have been here for more than just a few days? Marcus nodded. This should be more than enough for him. He wanted to ask more questions, but knew that with this shy guy, too much would be a problem.

Taking a deep breath, he spoke once more. "I have four questions left, then I shall go. Is that fine with you?"
