Except throw some fireballs. That was... okay, well, he didn't exactly have the high ground. He didn't have the high ground about anything.

"I mean," Jackal said, "you could go actually help. Figure out the curse or whatever. What's different. But I should probably be getting back to the dance floor, was going to see who was hot and eligible."

Which was not her.

Because she was ninety.

Vanora Lawful

Vanora cackled. "Don't let me keep you up," she said. "If you're looking for a date, though, I could always call down my granddaughter from wherever she's holed up." Loralai seemed like the type to come to a masquerade, after all. Chances were high she was already there.

"In any case, the curse is like a goddamn virus," she said. "It keeps changing from generation to generation. We've "broken" it a few times only for it to return the next two generations down. Not sure if there's any point in trying anymore. Might be just one of those things that has to run its course." She shrugged.

"I'll pass on your cursed family," Jackal said with a snicker. "And getting wingmanned by a grandma. But it was fun talkin' to you."

He gave a mock salute, and then second guessed himself, doing an overly elaborate bow instead. His tail nearly took out someone behind him, which brought about a new round of snickers before Jackal headed off to find his mask at last.
