"I'm about as old," Jackal said, "if we're counting. But no, I don't get any older. I'll be like this till Judgement day. Upside of being immortal. And I got a nice age for it. I can't help but feel bad for some of these fuckin' people walking around looking like they're twenty years old forever. At least I look like an adult."

Jackal paused a moment, then cracked a grin.

" 'Scuse my language, miss."

Such language for someone so old! It was refreshing. He kind of liked it.

"If you're fifteen, one year of your life is a fifteenth of all the time you've lived. When you're a million, it's a fraction of a fraction of a percent. They're going off what they know, basically. It's what they do. You know, Lord, what fools these mortals be!, only it's more like Lord, what fools these teenagers be!"

Jackal let out a small cackle of delight. Oh boy, he definitely liked her. She was just his kind of person.

"Nah," Jackal said. "You wouldn't go to my hell." He gave her a quick once over, confirming his observation to himself. "You'd be going to someone else's hell. The people there aren't as handsome as I am."

Oh, it was dreadful all right, and Jackal didn't get to talk about it all that much. A part of him delighted in the chance to, and a part of him was just looking for a reaction.

"My hell doesn't split people up like that. Everyone just ends up mixed in all together, and then the people in charge just go wading through the bodies. Technically they can run, but there's never far to really run. No escape and all that. Real scary stuff."

Just like him, mask or no mask.

"Hell," Jackal said pointedly, "kind of varies. There's gates, and we shove em through. Different types of hells. Depends on how bad you are, sort of. That said, we dump 'em all in at the start. Like a big sorting machine, the worst you are, the lower you get driven over time. Everyone starts normal enough near the top, and then it gets worse and worse over time. Driving the worst downward, they continue to fall. That's the idea, basically. First one isn't so bad. Not good, but not so bad."

There was a lot of nuance to any given hell, but his was particularly nuanced.

"Up near the top, mostly we just watch. If we see someone who fits our criteria, we help in chasin' them down and down."
