"Can't I give this crappy power away? Isn't that being charitable?

Name: Jaya Mallard (original), Jaya Virtue (current)
Age: 18
Birthday: January 7
Gender: Female.
Category: Student
Class: College

Appearance Description:

Jaya has a rather boyish look - ear length brunette hair that is often messy, a stern pair of light green eyes, and a smug grin perpetually on her face. There is a small mole at the upper right end of her lips. Her nose is long and sharp, and her cheekbones are high. Her face is actually rather long and angular, except the chin where it rounds off a bit.

She stands at a generous 5'6, and for her height, she is noticeably rather thin.

She often wears long - sleeved turtleneck sweaters and skinny jeans with boots, though sometimes she wears collared, sleeveless blouses instead. When not wearing jeans, she wears skirts instead; she never wears anything that goes above the knees. Every now and then she wears dresses.

Personality Description: She's nice and she absolutely hates being nice. Her charity is to the point of self - destruction; she is compelled to give and give, and she is completely aware of it. As such, she forces herself - and fails - to act mean and bitchy; the only ones that are taken in are those who have spent less than ten minutes with her because she inevitably breaks back down to being nice at the drop of a hat. However, when pushed she can be a very furious and difficult to control sort of person. She also tends to be a bit impulsive.

Powers:
Probability Control

Jaya is capable of manipulating luck and chance, but not for her own benefit. She is only capable of manipulating them to benefit others - she can, if she so desired, impose bad luck on other people, but her powers require a sort of "investment" to use. When she uses her power to change probabilities and chances, she takes a hit to her own luck of similar magnitude. If she uses it to decrease chances, she also decreases her own, essentially giving her double the bad luck she gives.

Whatever luck she loses tapers back, and returns in twice the magnitude. Essentially, after a duration of time ranging from several minutes to several days depending on how much power she used, she becomes luckier as well, with magnitude and duration proportionate to the luck given. The luck boost does not stack, however, and only the strongest one currently in effect will take effect.

Biography: Born to a family that very quickly left her in an orphanage in West Germany, Jaya was not quite what anyone could say a fortunate soul. She was a rather sullen child at first, but by the time she was four, she quickly became the center of attention and affection for many, being the sweet child that she was. None were unwelcome to her, and both the adults and the children grew fond of her. She grew attached to the orphans around her, as did they, and for a while everything was peachy keen.

However, as she grew up, her friends started disappearing, as families began to pick them up. Slowly, her circle of friends grew smaller and smaller. By the age of nine, there was only one person she was close with aside from the orphanage's handlers, and by the age of ten she was the only one left among the children she grew up with.

Nevertheless she kept on being the sweet and giving child she was normally, though there was the bitterness bubbling under the surface from being alone. She grew more resentful and isolated herself, and one night at the age of fourteen she overheard a phone call between the orphanage's resident caretaker and an unidentified person, and while details were sparse, she could clearly understand that what transpired was a denial of an adoption - specifically, hers.

Furious, she confronted the caretaker the following day, and found out that there were many attempts by families to adopt her but they were all shot down because she was too much of "an asset to the orphanage". In response, that same night she ran away, and being such a young child alone on the streets almost drove her to her death. It took only a few days for her to end up almost dead, and yet even in those desperate times she could not push herself to steal.

In front of a church she collapsed, and were it not for a stray dog licking her awake, she would have died. Dangerously close to dying, she shambled onward in the chill of January, followed along by the dog. She managed to scrounge up food from skulking around restaurants, which she shared the dog that she named Dog. Days passed the same way, with her sleeping under bridges and constantly scavenging for food alongside Dog, and on January 7th she found herself staying in an abandoned house.

There came the biggest and most unwanted night of Jaya's life. Food was running low, and she was once again nearing the brink of death when a homeless man, sick and tired of being homeless, fell at her feet. She gave him food and drink even when she had none for herself, and for that deed she earned a visit from an angel who restored her health and began to speak. Before it could speak however, she launched into an angry tirade at it, screaming about everything she went through and berating it for having the audacity to wait until she lived on death's door before it helped, and for the half - assed help it provided. Once the angel left, the man she fed tried to assault her, and nearly raped her - it was only thanks to the intervention of Dog that she managed to run away.

Seething, Jaya turned her back on the angel and its words, and tried to get her life in order. However, she would notice soon enough that astronomical amounts of bad luck began to befall her, and everyone around her seemed to be getting lucky; also, she unconsciously began to give and help more and more and gain less and less for herself from doing so. After Dog ended up getting run over by a car and she ended up getting injured, she had enough and called out the angel. Another heated argument ensued, and the angel left with instructions telling her that with a bit more patience she would be found and have a family to call her own.

The second visit left her even more lost and enraged. Within the next few months, she grew more and more bitter and angry, throwing herself into a life of drinking and drugs, disregarding her young age of sixteen. Luckily enough, before she could do any permanent damage to herself, Persephone found her and picked her up, recognizing her as a fellow Virtue.

Over the course of two years, Persephone helped Jaya handle her alcohol and drug abuse, and helped her through all her anger and bitterness. She ended up managing to get over most of of her problems and recovering her sweet side, but every now and then her alcoholism and drug use creeps back up, and she runs straight to her sister for such troubles.

She never did get over Persephone leaving Dog behind though.

Additional Information:
She gets a bit clingy around Persephone.
She has a bit of a literal naming sense.
Is roommates with Iris (despite the fact that Jaya actually has a family residence in Manta Carlos that she just doesn't like staying in too much) two days a week, with a few benefits.
