Oh jeez, something about the way he was just blinking at him was only making the little monkey laugh more. Solis' look, while it was one that maybe yesterday or the day before he would have seen and cowered beneath, he could tell that it was more of a look of annoyance from not being warned about the true nature of the popper beforehand rather than a thread of true retribution from him.

Though it was amusing to see him continue to fumble with the spent popper before he tossed Solis another one.

Wei watched Solis with curiosity as did the other people who were still gathered around, every single one of them probably wondering why Wei wasn't turning tail and running away as fast as he possibly could. But he didn't think anything of them--they didn't know Solis' slight changes in demeanor like he did--they hadn't experienced the same emotional shifts in his face, and in the air around to him.

To put it another way, they just didn't know Solis like Wei did.

When the popper went off in his face, it took him a second for him to understand what he just happened to him. He reached up to his head and grabbed a handful of confetti and shimmery streamers, dumping them onto Solis's straight mop of black hair. There was a collective gasp, as if they were expecting an actual fight to break out between them.

Silly.

Solis thought he'd gotten the upper hand, and yet, Wei had the gall to dump a handful of the useless pieces of plastic and paper on his head.

Oh, this was war.

Solis went to grab the rest of the streamers on top of Wei's head, the motion eliciting a horrified gasp and a few screams from the crowd-- a touch to the forehead was what Solis used to invoke his fear-based empathy on his victims. Some students had even gotten ready to run for help, and the older ones had shielded the younger ones so they wouldn't catch a glimpse of the pain and suffering Solis was undoubtedly about to put the monkey boy through.

But the expected screams of haunted fear from hallucinations didn't come.

Instead, Solis had scooped up his own handful, added a handful of the streamers from his own head, then reached over and shoved it all down the front of Wei's shirt.

It may have been childish, but Solis paid no mind to that, instead feeling rather smug now. The slightest twitch of his lips, however, was the only visible sign of such triumphant feelings.

Wei didn't think anything of Solis reaching towards his head. It made sense to him--if he'd gotten revenge on him for popping a popper in his face by dumping a handful of glitter, plastic, and crepe paper on his head the only fair reaction would be to do the same. As far as the monkey child knew, mutual head-ward reaches were par for the course in the game of love and petty streamer fights that he and his new friend found themselves in.

Wait, apparently Solis didn't consider them friends.

Oh well. They were friends in his heart.

Actually, the scariest part of all this was everyone screaming when Solis reached towards his head. That caused him to jump back once Solis had collected the popper material from his head and look around at them, concern and maybe a level or two of pain on his face. Loud noises when you haven't slept in a couple days was a huge no-no.

And then there was plastic down his shirt. Okay, he had to concede defeat here, he thought as he jumped back from Solis, frantically patting his torso and flapping his shirt to get the streamers to fall out.

Ugh.

"Well, I'm glad one of us enjoyed that."

Solis snorted softly at the sight Wei was making, the sound quite possibly the closest thing to a laugh the boy could manage. At this point, he was somewhat resigned to actually feeling things whenever Wei was concerned. Still, he mentally cursed out the monkey boy-- more out of habit than true vehemence.

"You are an idiot." was his only murmured response, and though the words made everyone around them wince again, the tone held the faintest note of fondness meant solely for Wei. It was well-hidden, but Wei seemed to be an expert at reading him-- something that made him both quite annoyed and... happy almost. At least, as close as happy as he could get.

The crowd's reaction simply reminded Solis of their presence, however. He glanced around, a small scowl tugging at his features, and everyone promptly scattered or diverted their attention.
